here in this interview ekta asks angd 2 play an old man:
Ekta Kapoor and I didn't fight
By Subhash K Jha

Generation leaps seem to be the in thing on daily soaps. Practically every soap is taking the leap, though a lot of the cast involved in the leap is reluctant to do so.

Iqbal Khan who was asked to age in Kaisa Yeh Pyarr Hai says, "I was ok with aging by some years. But generations? That was awkward. Finally Ekta who's very fond me, adjusted my character accordingly, and all's well."

Not all producers are that accommodating. When after the gen-leap Manish Goel refused to age in the afternooner Bhabhi he was asked to leave. Even Ekta didn't give in to Nausheen Ali Sardar's won't-age stance in Kkusum and replaced her with Manasi Joshi. It's another matter that the serial went downhill after the replacement.

Ronit Roy was persuaded to sport a salt-and-pepper hair on Kasauti Zindagi Kay to take the gen-leap. However on Ekta's Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Ronit appeared with jet-black hair to play father to grownup kids.

Smriti Irani who plays the new 'Ba' in Kyunkii Saas says she had no qualms about turning grey. "It was a fallacy created in part of the press that I didn't want look old on screen. I'm an actress playing a vital role in a soap. I've to go with the plot. In fact I insisted that I should look old to play Ba."

As Sahara's only UPS WohRehe Wali Mehlon Ki prepares to take take that luscious leap its petite producer Kavita Barjatya frankly admits gen-leaps are the order of the daily.

"It can't be helped. With the daily soaps being telecast five days a week viewers need to keep interested. The story gets exhausted very fast and so do viewers. In WRWMK we didn't want the storyline to drag. To retain a freshness we had to take a leap."

Did WRWMK have to change because its leading man Arjun Punj decided to opt out? Explains Kavita, "To be very honest, when we decided to make the leap we asked both the lead Arjun and Reema Kapoor if they would like to move ahead chronologically with their characters. They declined.

So we re-worked the story so that Reema remains. But she'll now appear as her character's daughter Pari. The story no longer demanded Arjun. Hence he left. It was very simple. If they had agreed to age they'd have done so together. Otherwise both characters had to go."

Kavita is acutely aware of her responsibility as the tv software producer of her home banner Rajshri. "None of my seniors at home have ever interfered with my decision. But they're all there to guide me. I don't want to do anything that would compromise the Rajshri banner.

I'm constantly aware of the values that my banner has upheld for so many years. In fact I myself started reading the Ramayan after I got involved with WRWMK. At the same time I've to make sure that the daily remains entertaining."

Rajshri's second soap Pyar Ke Do Naam Ek Radha Ek Shyam on Star Plus has apparently not done as well.

Explains Kavita, "I agree it hasn't generated all-India interest. But it has generated huge TRPs in parts of UP where Star Plus had made marginal impact until this soap."

A generation leap is on the anvil for Pyar Ke Do Naam as well. "I guess that's inevitable. We've another project being planned. Family dramas are in. And viewers want to see another generation take over after a while. Actually I'd like to refer to our serial as WohRehne Wali Mehlon Ki Part 2 after the leap. It's a healthy trend. It keeps both the makers and the viewers on their toes."

& here again she talks about making another generation of kyph just like ksbkbt.......
I am still loyal to Ekta Kapoor
by Subhash K Jha

This could blow up into a major problem. After Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Ekta Kapoor has made up her mind to make another generation leap in Kaise Yeh Pyarr Hai.

There's only one problem. Iqbal Khan refuses to take the leap. Shooting back-to-back for the two Balajee serials Kaisa Yeh Pyarr Hai and Kavyanjali, Iqbal is crystal-clear about his priorities.

"My loyalty to Ekta Kapoor and Balajee is unquestionable. Even if Steven Spielberg was to ask me to do a film I'll tell him to ask Ekta about my dates. I'm currently working in two serials for Ekta. My character Angad on Kaisa Yeh Pyarr Hai will always remain very close to my heart. I AM Angad.

But I cann't bring myself to age on screen. It just doesn't seem right. My career as an actor has only started. I can't allow myself to leap forward by 20-25 years. It just won't work. I want to be the lead. But I don't want to take the leap."

Iqbal has already informed Ekta that the generation leap isn't what he wants.

"I don't know what the solution is. Maybe I can play Angad's son. Or otherwise they can bump me off. But I'm certain I won't go through the aging process on the soap. Let's see what Ekta does with my character.

Please don't forget, I belong to the biggest family in Mumbai. Ekta can move me anywhere she wants. I'm happy to be just part of Balajee. I've given them 19 hours of my time. They can do what they like with me."

Moving on to his new soap Kavyanjali which Iqbal has recently joined, the actor says, "My character Shaurya in Kavyanjali is so different from Angad. I'm the funny man in Kavyanjali trying to make everyone smile. On the sets I didn't know anyone except Anita.

But now I'm comfortable with everyone including Amrita Singh who's really awesome. But I'm not much of a fun seeker. I give my shot. If someone cracks a joke I laugh. But I won't crack a joke myself."

Iqbal is now looking to marriage next year. "My parents have consulted all the elders in our family in Srinagar. To me my parents' approval means everything. I don't care about anything else. My girlfriend and I will now tie the knot next years as soon as Ekta gives me some time off."

Speaking of her soaps, one of her soaps has revived the flagging career of a certain actor.

"My soap for Sony 'Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai' has given a new lease of life to Iqbal Khan. When he came to me, he had already done a few feature films and was hesitant about doing a soap.

"Look at what TV has done for him! There's soon going to be a range of merchandise related to Iqbal's character Angad," says Ekta.

The Lalu dolls had better move over. "The dolls are drooling over Iqbal. I wish other actors too would stop looking at TV as a stepping stone to cinema," quips Ekta.

She refuses to comment on the state of affairs with actor Ronit Roy, who is neither in nor out of her two popular soaps "Kasautii Zindagi Kay" and "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" to do another soap "Sarrkar" on a rival channel.

"All I'll say is Ronit and I need to work this out very soon. I've had a perpetual casting problem in my soaps. I wish I could find more Iqbal Khans!."
