Exercise on location
Is what actor Iqbal Khan does to ensure he gets his workout when he can't make it to the gym, says Leena Mogre
Blessed with fantastic Kashmiri genes, Iqbal Khan has to workout to cut down the size of his muscles. Being four years old in Mumbai, he has already established himself as a serious actor, playing roles in popular television soaps like "Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai and Kkavyanjali."
He has been involved with fitness since he was young, not only because he knew he wanted to be an actor, but also because he's very athletic. Even though his busy schedule does not allow him too many hours of sleep, he still manages to get the time to work out. Even if it is 2 am in the morning, he comes to the gym and has the energy to complete his exercise schedule. He especially appreciates the "Street Zone," a special weight training area of the gym, "That area is the reason I travel from Oshiwara to Khar just to exercise," he says.
His diet
After he wakes up: Brown bread sandwich with low cal cheese and a vegetable tikki. He munches on dry Muesli when he feels hungry
Lunch: Dal with roti and subji
Evening: Museli and fruit (elaichi, banana or apple)
Dinner: Dal with roti and subji
Besides the above, I have advised him to have a pre and post-workout meal with protein and carbs so he can get good sleep. I have also asked him to eat more salads.
His workout schedule:
Day 1: Upper body — Chest, triceps, decline bench press, incline dumbbell press, flat dumbbell press, dumbbell flyes, pec deck, tricep extension, overhead extension, push down and abs
Day 2: Upper body — back, biceps, row, lat pull down, shrugs and barbell curl
Day 3: Cardio — Cardio workout on treadmill or on cross trainer and abs
Day 4: Upper body — Shoulder, forearm, military press, overhead press, dumbbell side lateral, front raises, rear delt, wrist and reverse curls
Day 5: Lower body — Squats, leg press, lunges, leg extension, leg curls and abs
Day 6: Cardio — Cardio workout on treadmill and cross trainer.
When Iqbal can't come to the gym he prefers to do his workout on location, I have ensured that a trainer from my gym is available to train him on location as well. His trainer, Ashish Antony makes sure Iqbal follows his training and is always there to encourage him to workout. The actor's advice to upcoming television stars is "it looks very green from the outside, but even the glamour industry requires a lot of hard work. Don't get carried away by the wrong things the city has to offer, forget the partying and learn to focus." Iqbal is also a firm believer in God and we wish him the best of luck for his life and career.
