Once upon a time many years ago in the quaint little Hawaiian village of Mokaoku, there lived a young girl whose name was Sara. On most days Sara would spend many hours with Mahek. Many days would see the two together from the time the sun came up to when it sink behind Mauna Loa in the evening. Mahek spent most of the day with Sara fishing for kumu , picking opihi in the ocean, or gathering lilikoi or banananas from the nearby rain forest. Most of the time the little village of Mokaoku would be a very peaceful place to live. The hard working villagers always got up early to work in the papaya fields before the hot Hawaiian sun became unbearable. Then one night it happened. Without warning a wild Lion was heard in the taro patches and papaya fields making loud noises. The noises were not just loud, they were louder than loud. With much food being destroyed, the villagers met and decided someone brave needed to volunteer to find the Lion and kill it before it could do any more damage. Someone was needed who was not only brave, but braver than brave. Who do you think it was that volunteered? Yes, it was Sara who wanted to show the entire village what a brave girl could do. Very early the next morning before the villagers went to work in the papaya fields, Sara prepared to go find the Lion. Mahek handed Sara a small lunch of bananas, mountain apples and a bottle of Coke. Words were not necessary - the concerned look both faces reflected the danger ahead. As the door opened for Sara the girl was surprised to see the entire village gathered to say Aloha and wish the brave hunter good luck As Sara left the village, Mahek closed the ohia gate and sat beneath a tall coconut tree and wait for Sara to return. The young hunter quietly walked past the empty papaya fields and taro patches where the Lion had done much damage. Sara walked across a little creek and followed a winding path towards a cave high on the mountain. There was no sign of a Lion. After walking for a long time, Sara climbed a tall tree to get a better view of the surrounding Hawaiian rain forest. There was no wild Lion. The girl continued walking the winding path towards the cave. Surely the sound of anyone walking through the rain forest would attract any curious Lion but the entire rainforest was quiet except for the sounds of the small tropical birds. When Sara came to the cave, the sun was very warm, and Sara thought it would be a good place to rest, eat the small lunch, and drink the bottle of Coke. The young hunter knew if the wild Lion could not be found soon, the villagers wouldn't consider Sara a hero and might even laugh at the girl for not finding the wild Lion. What would be the best thing to do? Sara looked to the right, and then to the left trying to decide which way to continue. All of a sudden Sara noticed some movement in the grass near the entrance to the cave. Looking closer, Sara thought it must be a dream seeing the most humungous, big, wild Lion that anyone had ever seen. It was not just big, it was bigger than big. The Lion looked at Sara and Sara looked at the Lion. Both were surprised to see each other. The hunter was not expecting to see such a big animal and dropped the bottle of Coke on a rock which made a loud crashing sound. The loud sound startled the Lion. Sara started to run back to the villiage faster than any girl in Mokaoku had ever run. Not running just fast, but faster that fast. The wild Lion made loud strange sounding noises and started chasing right behind Sara. When passing the tall tree, Sara took on glance back and saw the wild Lion was still making funny sounds and running close behind. Sara ran down the winding path, across the small creek, past the taro patches, and between the papaya trees. The working villagers were suprised to see such a humungous, big wild Lion chasing Sara. They all said it was not just big, it was bigger than big. Mahek saw Sara running towards the ohia gate and quickly opened it just in time for the young hunter to get safely inside. Mahek quickly closed it to try to keep the Lion from running into the village. Mahek had seen many big Lions, but thought this one not just big, it was bigger than big. The Lion was running so fast after Sara, it could not stop and ran right into the tall coconut tree next to the gate. It made the entire tree shake so hard two coconuts fell and hit the Lion directly on the head killing it instantly. It wasn't just dead, it was deader than dead. The brave hunter had returned safely and everyone was happy the wild Lion would no longer be able to destroy the papaya fields and taro patches.
Everyone was happy, well everyone expect the wild Lion. Like all endings of happy stories,Sara and Mahek lived happily ever after.
