Om (Kiran Karmarkar) and Parvati (Sakshi Tanwar) Agarwal in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii

In one of the biggest twists to Balaji's drama Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, on Star Plus, the character of Om Agarwal (Kiran Karmarkar), Parvati's dead husband, makes a dramatic comeback to thwart Suyaash Mehra's (Mohnish Behl) romantic intentions towards his wife.

Om had been shown as having died in the July 26 floods. Kamal (Ali Asgar) found him and took him to the hospital.

Ratings game

Though nobody wants to give the suspense about Om Agarwal's re-entry away, Ekta Kapoor admits, "The possibility is immense. Om was a very popular character. Though the ratings have gone up since Om's death, with the Mohnish's entry, there has to be good drama and a conflict of interests."

Conflicting interests

Says a Balaji source, "It will be like when Anupam Kapadia (Aman Varma) came into Tulsi's life after Mihir's death, in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi - she had to — audience was very happy that she had found someone. In Kahaani, the conflict of interests will exist in Parvati's — and the audience's — minds.

Who should Parvati choose — Suyaash or Om? It will be the biggest and most painful twist in Parvati's life. With Trishna (Mita Vashisht), Om's second wife, also turning negative, whether Om is alive or not will be the final revelation."

Balaji can do anything

But how will Om, who is already dead and cremated, come back? Says the source, "Balaji can do anything. A track can be shown where the man living with Trishna could be Om's impersonator, who died in the floods.

It could also be that Kamal, who last saw Om alive at the hospital, went out for 15 minutes, in which time an Om look-alike, was admitted and died. We will take the track to a point when Om finally returns."

Twists and turns

Sandiip Sikcand, creative head of Kahaani, doesn't deny the Om track, but says, "Wait and watch. Kahaani is going through one of the most dramatic, interesting and shocking episodes in its span.

The track has already started and we should be showing the possibility of Om coming back within the next couple of weeks.

We have to continuously think of plot changes and incorporate twists in the storyline, to keep viewer interest from sagging. Om coming back is a good change; he was an extremely popular character."

But how will they bring back someone who's already dead? Sandiip smiles, "Balaji is known to make the impossible, possible. We have always taken up challenges. No point doing easy stuff."

When asked if he will return to the show as Om, Kiran Karmarkar preferred not to comment.
