Chapter 46
Tossing and turning, she cursed under her breath.
M: you idiot! Tumhari vaje se mujhe bhooke pet sonna padha!
She watched him sleep soundly in bed while she uncomfortable turned round.
M: stupid!! She shouted at him
Adi mumbled…: hmm…and turned the other way.
Maithili went down to the kitchen and searched the fridge…she was stranded! There was no ood in the house.
M: huh! Adi's friends ate all the food last night…and adi..that donkey burned the only food we had left!
She paced the kitchen and got an idea. She glanced at the clock hung on the kitchen wall – 12:00
She seemed a little apprehensive about her idea now..
M: hmm…itna risk toh lena hi chahiye!
Taking her purse, she turned round. She jumped back when she saw adi in front of her
A: going anywhere jaan? He spoke jumping on the stool
M: away from you! she smiled and left.
She shivered slightly as the cool outdoor breeze swept across her. The dar exteriors frightened her more than she imagined they would. She clutched her bag tighter as she wandered the street. She felt footsteps behind her, panicking, she quickened her pace. She was now running. She felt a grip on her arm. Turning round maithili started wailing…
M: please please!! Leave me I don't…
Her eyes were closed and fright was evident on her face. He shook her a little…
"maithili!!! Its me!" "adi!!" he pulled her close to him so she was compelled to open her eyes.
M: adi! she stood worried and hugged him.
This was the second time in the day that she hugged him…sure the first time he couldn't really feel her hug…it was just an urge to comfort her…but now he felt like never letting go, that too for no reason at all.
She stepped back a little and stared at him
M: what are you doing here?
A: you didn't think I'd let you go out at 12:00 at night did you!
M: i…
A: cahlo! Ghar chalo!
M: no! I'm hungry!! And I can't sleep on an empty stomach!!
A: yeh kya zid hai!! Aur waise bhi mujhe kha kha kar tumhara bhuk nahi bhara kya? (what stubbornness is this? And anyway! After eating me aren't you satisfied!)
Maithili rolled her eyes at him: whatever adi! I'm going…
A: oh and where do you think you're going?
M: to the gola stall
A: huh?? To the what???
M: gola!! Don't you know!!
A: it doesn't matter if I know or not! Its 12:00 at night! Where are you going to find the gola man!!!
M: oh I know where!
A: I don't care!! You're not going!!!
M: yes I am!
A: no you're not!
M: I am! And I'm going weather you like it or not!
Saying so, maithili stomped off. Adi sighed and shook his head..
A: tum toh…
Adi sighed and followed maithili.
M: tum mere peeche peeche kyu aarahe ho?
A: because if you get kidnapped and the people call me for ransome…I won't be bothered enough to pay for you!
Maithili rolled her eyes..: as if! Adi, if I get kidnapped or anything happens to me, you'll be the first person to give the thugs a thrashing
Adi stopped and stared at her…she stared back too…
A: no….he slowly spoke…i..don't care about you…
He felt extremely guilty saying this…as if he was lying to himself…but he wasn't…or was he?
Maithili smiled at him coyly…
A: what!! Adi spoke getting aggravated..
M: no matter how much you lie adi..everyone knows, you do care fo me…
Adi got extremely annoyed and shouted at maithili
A: well I don't!! and I'm leaving!! Good bye!
Adi turned round and maithili stood still.
Leanign on one leg, she sighed.
Adi got half way and turned round. He saw her waiting for him. He turned round and continued..
A: huh! Who does she think she is! telling me I care for her! Huh!
Adi saw a jeep go past with a bunch of drunks singing. He looked worriedly at maithili and the jeep. Adi started walking to maithili as the jeep slowed down in front of her. Adi came and stood in front of her and one of the guys peered out the window. The guy snuk his head back in and the jeep drove off.
Adi glared at maithili
A: I told you…come home!!! I'll make you something!
M: oh no! I've had enough of you 'making' me something! You'll end up setting everything on fire yet again!
A: no i…
M: besides…you do care for me…or else you wouldn't have come back..
She looked warmly at him, she didn't know why she was looking at him as such but it felt good to see him in a different light.
She leaned forewords and kissed him on his cheek. Smiling, she turned round and continued walking
He had no idea what she was doing, it was normally his role to play with her…his role to abruptly kiss her and walk off…what was she doing? And why did he like it?
He shook his head and followed her.
A: maithiliiiii!!! It's not going to be here!!!why have we come all the way to Juhu beach!!! Please lets go home!!! I'm begging you!!!
M: no hubby dear! We'll carry on until I find it!
A: have you been watching films a lot lately?
M: no..why?
A: kyunki this is exactly the scene from Salaam Namaste!!! The song "what's going on!" Me as Saif and you as Preity! Only difference is…that you're not pregnant…or are you?
He coyly asked her, stepping in front of her.
She raised her eyebrow at him..
M: oh I doubt it! You don't even have the guts to kiss me yet, so there's no chance of you making me pregnant in the next…hmm…what say, 10 years?
She laughed a little and continued walking, when she felt a tug on her arm. She thudded against him chest as he gripped her waist firmly
A: what did you say?
He asked whispering in her ear…
A: I don't have the guts to kiss you?…maithili…I respect you…or by now I would have lied to you…said I loved you, won you're trust…then take advantage of you… but I didn't do that…
Maihtili stared into his eyes as he spoke…
She slowly lifted her head and pressed her lips on his temple…
Kisssing him gently, she whipered back..
M: thankyou…for being so…cowardly!!!
She pushed him away and ran laughing
"Hey maithili!!!" adi spoke as he ran after her.
She ran onto the beach as she tried to escape from his grip.
He ran behing her and scooped her in his arms
Turning her round, he stumbled and fell onto the sand.
She was laughing and he was staring at her. Both of them had never been this close before…physically, yes…but never as two people…two souls..
He felt himself drown in her eyes as he continued staring at her…
