Chapter 43

Maithili woke early that morning and quickly had a shower. She got out wearing a white sari with wet hair. She didn't bother drying her hair, as she loved it this way.

She reached downstairs and closed her eyes in front of god, silently praying to God for a moment. She opened her eyes and smiled. Hugging mayuri from the back, she greeted her

M: hey mom!

Ma: arey beta!kitni baar kaha hai! You don't have to wake up early in the mornings! Adi wakes up at 9:00!

Maithili smiled but as soon as she turned round she murmered..

M: the pig sleeps till so late! Why can't he get up like normal people!

Maihtili grinned as she got an idea..

M: mamma! Don't you think adi shoul wake up now? Its 7:50!

MaY; umm ok beta…try to wake him up..

Maithili grinned and ran upstairs.

She saw him laying on his stomach on the bed. His legs spread across the surface with a comforter covering half way. Thankfully today, he wore a shirt. She went into the bathroom and took a mug of water. She inched close to him and 1..2..3…the water splashed on him.

Adi opened his eyes with a start and gaped at her, his eyes showing a mixture of shock and horror…

Maithili bit her lip and then burst out laughing…he continued to stare at her…

Oh if beauty could kill, then surely, he'd be dead by now. Maithili looked so simple, so plain yet so beautiful. Her wet hair blowing, reminents of it falling on her face. He blinked slightly and came to terms with the situation…

He frowned and tugged her arm, making her fall on him. He turned her round and crushed himself on her.

He stared at her for a long moment as silence struck. She stared smiling into his eyes, grinning, mocking him. He moved the hair out of the way. She stared confused..

His head fell in between her neck and shoulder, his nose caressing her neck..

She clenched her fist tightly…

M: adi…yeah tum kya..

A: maithili…i..i..love you…

Maithili stared at him blankly…

Hse had no idea if what he said was a joke or if it really was the truth. She stared for an endless moment and he stared back at her..

He slowly grinned at her and raised his eyebrow..

A: how did you like the acting?

He whispered in her ear, his lips pressing down on it.

She frowned angrily and tried to push him off.

M: I was right about you! you will never be serious in life…always taking people for granted you donkey! You pig! You..

But before she could complete her sentence, he kissed her on her cheek. She froz mid sentence..

A: thanks for the bath…he winked at her and got up.

She lay still on the bed…touching her cheek, she slowly got up and headed out of the room.

Mayuri was packing and maithili helped her.

May: beta I'm going out for a week…I want you to take full care of my adi beta!

You know him! Whenever we go out, take-aways and pizza is all he eats! The house will be a complete mess! He'll probably have a party a night!

Maihtili grinned at how well mayuri knew her son..

Ma: mamma…don't you ever feel angry on adi?

Mayuri stopped and looked at maithili..

May: beta…these things make me very angry…but my anger is nothing compared to the love he gives us in return..

Maithili looks confused and then smiles as she remembers the past..

How adi was so protective about Tannu – even though she wasn't his own sister, how Adi was os protective about his family, how he loves his parents, his brothers – adi even loved maihtili's parents and did a false act of loving her just so that they would be happy. Maithili also remembered how adi had protected her from the goons in Panchmeshwar.

She smiled at seeing the different shades of him…sometimes he could be so irritating, so careless and so childish, yet when he believed in something, put his mind to It and was passionate about it, he would succeed to no limits…he wondered if she would ever be in the receiving end of his love…his passion…

Maithili snapped out of her thoughts and turned round to face mayuri again

Mayuri smiled at her: see beta! You know exactly what I mean! She smiled at maithili and touched her cheek…

May: beta, you are the best possible choice for my adi, you are the only one who can take care of him after we are gone..

M: mamma! Don't ever say that!

May: but beta..it's a fact of life..

M: no mamma…don't talk like that…as long as adi and me are there, nothing will happen to you and shikhar pappa!

Mayuri smiled and kissed maithili's forehead..

It was afternoon and everyone was ready to leave…Mayuri, Shikhar, Prem and mukti were in one car while Bharat and tannu in another. Mallishka and Pranay would come straight from their honeymoon and join the wedding with the rest of the family.

Adi and maithili bid their goodbyes and closed the door.

Adi stretched his hands in the air…

A: so..when are you planning on vacating?

Maithili coyly smiled at him..

She moved closer and closer to him, wrapping her arms round his neck…

Adi looked confused as she smiled at him

M: I'm not going anywhere aaadiii! You like me this close don't you! so how can I break your heart?

She grinned at him and turned to leave…adi caught her hand and puled her close

A: so thoughtful of you…he whispered in her ear. He kissed her cheek and left in a wink.

Maithili smiled at him as he left…

Maybe this was the start of somehitng new…she no longer winced at his touch…his closeness was much liked by her. She felt her spirit rise when he came in front of her…maybe this would work afterall!

Maithili stood infront of her wardrobe in confusion…Adi had called all of their college friends – about half the college – and was throwing a party..

He would introduce her as his wife ofcourse…or so she thought

M: hmmm…traditional or modern…

A: hmm? Adi asked standing next to her…

M you know…should I wear a sari or a dress?

Adi thought for a moment..

A: what would you wear if you weren't married to me?

M: hmmm dress…

A; well wear that then…

Maithili smiled at him…

Adi picked out a dress from the wardrobe and took it to the mirror. Maihtili standing in front of him, he hung the dress to her figure.

A: hmmm perfect! He spoke into her ear.

She blushed and took the dress.

The hall was decorated to perfection with bubbles and balloons everywhere. The theme was Blue and white, so all the girls wore blue and the boys wore white.

Karan and Adi were talking away when Karan stoped mid way. He stared at the staircase and adi looked weirdly.

Adi slowly turned round and was blown away by the sight in front of him. Maithili came down wearing a light blue dress extending to her knees. Her face glowed in the spotlight as she decended. Her radiance and beauty took all the boys by shock and girls by jealousy.

Head down and quite shy, she came towards Adi.

Karan gaped at maithili and she smiled awkwardly at him.

Adi snapped out of his thoughts and looked at Karan.

K: hi maithili…

M: hi karan…

K: i…uh…you look breath-taking…

Maithili smiled shyly but was a little disappointed – she wanted adi to be the first one ot compliment her

She turned towards adi expecting something but adi had frozen the moment he laid eyes on her.

A: uh…you look…pretty good…

He murmured.

Maithili looked offended and hurt. She turned round slightly.

K: adi yaar! I saw the news! I almost got a heart attack! You and maithili huh!Good you told me that you two weren't married!

Maithili froze half way and glared at adi. Adi caught her eye, but quickly shifted away..

M: so vikram aditya Mehra! That's how you wanna play it! Fine!
