What's cooking, good looking?

If you thought the closest TV stars came to cooking was wielding a make-believe spatula on the sets of saas-bahu sagas, think again. When Sapana Patil asked a motley crew of actors the cardinal question, 'Are you a good cook?' most claimed they were

I can whip up anything, but I am particularly fond of baking cakes. I stay alone in Mumbai and cook most of my meals myself. But I keep telephoning my mother for cooking tips and directions. So all the calls I make home account for my high STD bills. Although I can cook almost anything else in the world, I have never managed to cook khichdi, supposedly the simplest to make.

I can't cook to save my life. The first time I tried to cook was in standard 12. I used to stay up late to study and would often feel hungry in the night. So my mom taught me to make some basic things like tea, coffee and fried eggs. And believe me I am still struggling to get them right. No two teas or coffees that I make taste or look alike. On most occasions, Two Minute Noodles are a lifesaver.

I can whip up anything in a matter of minutes, and it turns out to be delicious. The first time I tried my hand at cooking dal, I waited till the cooker blew 16 whistles. The dal turned out bad and I had to feed it to a dog, who wouldn't eat it either. That was incentive enough to learn to cook. I most enjoy cooking a mixed vegetable dish of peas, tomatoes and paneer that I learnt from a Punjabi.

All I have learnt is to make tea and omelette. And with years of practice I still cannot claim to be good at either. It's just that I didn't bother to learn because there were people at home who cooked for me. Frankly, I don't see myself venturing into the kitchen to cook. Luckily my wife has never insisted I share kitchen responsibilities with her.

My recipes make people lick their fingers. My specialties are pasta and boiled vegetables. I have been cooking since I was young as I used to help my mom with the cooking. I also experiment with old recipes and try out new ones of my own. Despite my busy shooting schedule, I still cook every morning and even carry boiled vegetables to the sets.

I belong to a family that runs an Irani restaurant and perhaps that's why I am an absolute foodie. I have also attended a catering course. I not only cook, but also enjoy experimenting. But of all the food I can fix I love cooking butter chicken – the first recipe I learnt at catering class. But I still maintain that my mother is the best cook in the world.

I love to cook, and my husband says I am good at it. I don't get the time to do make anything on working days, so I rush to the kitchen on any holiday I get. I like to cook Italian dishes and am good at making pastas, but my family prefers my chicken and mushroom omelette, rajma, dahi alu and pav bhaji.

Deepshikha
I am a vegetarian and can cook only vegetarian food. Since my mom is Gujarati, I have grown up on Gujarati food that I love, and enjoy cooking. I make good dal dhokli and among the Punjabi dishes, I can make good rajma. I also love the traditional Gujarati dish called Undiyo but unfortunately, I can't cook it. http://www.mumbaimirror.com/nmirror/mmpaper.asp?sectid=19&am p;articleid=228200601751171228200601637359
