I am going to Delhi to look for some eligible boys

Says Ekta Kapoor about her future prospects for reel and real life

Ekta Kapoor

Your Kandy Floss is soon to be aired.
I'm having so much fun doing non-fiction. I've done non-fiction programme before - Cosmic Chat with Sunita Menon. But I'm apprehensive about this one because it will look at the lives of television stars. I hope I'm not torn to shreds. If people speak honestly on camera, I won't edit it. I've instructed my team not to ask lewd questions or hit below the belt. When they asked me if they can take pot-shots at me, I told them, 'Fine. But I might hate you for that.'

Do you feel television allows you to be as adventurous as cinema?
Not at all. The target audience on TV doesn't allow you to experiment. When I do something regular they're angry. But when I do something different I don't get their attention. So what do I do? Iqbal can be done for cinema. But not for television. In spite of all the criticism the top three soaps remain my Kasauti Zindagi Kay, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

What do you think of Saloni?
Oh, I like it very much. It's a nice conventional commercial show. At the end of the day, the audience does not want to move away from the standard theme and format. I do feel that I am stagnanting at times. But at the end of the day I love my work. I love my shows. For me they aren't something I do for a few hours. They're my life. I'm very attached to my characters in the soaps. But I do want to attempt a different entertainment.

Your Kkasam Se isn't doing well?
What are you saying? In just three weeks the TRPs are at a 2.4 average. It's my other serial Hum Paanch that isn't doing well. As for Hum Paanch, times have changed. We shouldn't have brought it back again. The viewer-profile has changed.

Wasn't Amar Upadhyay supposed to play the lead in Krimson Skies?
He was supposed to play Karan's father. But he asked for too much money.

How do you react to the criticism?
My father always says, dogs bark when an elephant walks. I hate calling myself an elephant. But what to do? I do my work and go home. I've five friends who i can be myself with. People can call my soaps regressive and monotonous . I've only one thing to say to them. 'Dude, they aren't affecting the TRPs. It just seems like a lot of idle malicious talk.'

Are you producing films?
Yes , plenty. I'll start with a small film directed by Satish Kaushik featuring Tusshar and maybe Ayesha Takia. Then there're projects with Neeraj Vora, Rohit Shetty, Abbas-Mustan and Anees Bazmi. I also want to start small niche films with independent directors. But my role model in filmmaking is Sanjay Leela Bhansali because he has always done what he wants to do, and done it so magnificently. He wants me to make a serial without a 'k' in it. I will, just for him. I went mad after seeing Devdas. No one can touch him.

Any plans of marriage?
My friends and I are going to Delhi to look for some eligible boys. Can't seem to find one for myself in Mumbai. My temper tantrums are too well- known here. I'm trying to sober down as much as possible.

Ekta Kapoor sues actress Barkha Bisht!

The producer takes legal action after the actress defects to the Rajshri camp

On the warpath: Ekta Kapoor

Reena Thapar Kapoor

Actors falling out with their directors and producers is not new in the industry. The two have always had a love-hate relationship. The best example of this is Balaji head honcho Ekta Kapoor's friendships and tiffs with the various actors of her shows. Despite parting ways with actors Rajeev Khandelwal and Amar Upadhayay, producer Ekta Kapoor's angst never reached a point where she had to seek legal help.

But this time actress Barkha Bisht managed to upset television industry's most influential woman. It all started when Barkha walked out of Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka at the eleventh hour. The actress was to play the second lead in the show and had even shot for six episodes till she chanced upon an offer that she thought was better than any other role she had played in the past.

"I launched that girl in the MTV show Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi; later she even did Kasauti Zindagi Kay and Kavyanjali. Since she insisted that I give her an important role, I gave her a good role in Nimmo…," Ekta defends her stance. But Barkha deserted her mentor and fled for greener pastures at the first opportunity. "After having shot for a few episodes, the girl called to inform me that she would not be shooting for Nimmo… anymore. She quit the show without giving any prior notice."

Apparently, Barkha failed to mention to Ekta that she had been offered the lead role in Rajshri's show for Star Plus's Pyar Ke Do Naam, Ek Radha Ek Shyaam. "Replacing actors is something I am used to. In a daily soap, it happens all the time. But in this case I lost a lot of money because of that girl's unprofessional behaviour. I decided to sue her because I didn't want her to set a bad example for other actors. My lawyers are looking into the matter very seriously," says the miffed Ekta.

We spoke to Barkha, who sounded reluctant to talk about the incident. "Look, I was getting to play the lead in a Rajshri show and I did not want to miss out on the opportunity. In the past I was only doing two-bit roles but this was my big chance. Contrary to Ekta's allegation, I did speak to her about this. I could've continued to do Kavyanjali and Kasauti… along with Pyar Ke… But I guess, like other Balaji actors Ekta didn't want me to work with a different production house. She told me that I could either do the K-shows or the Rajshri show. It was my call and I decided to go by my instincts. I believe Ekta is upset but she has to understand that she can't stop people from growing professionally," insists Barkha.

About being sued by Balaji she says, "My production house (Rajshri) and my lawyers are helping me out with this. I'm not completely aware of the nuances of the matter. Also I don't know what to say. Is Ekta too upset?" she asks. Due to Barkha's unprofessional attitude, Nimmo… got delayed by three months. Above all the production house had to re-shoot certain portions that earlier had Barkha in them. The Kapoor camp claim that the actress's defection has cost Balaji lakhs of rupees.

Ali bags David Dhawan flick

Ali Asgar, better known these days as the lovable devar Kamal in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii is all gung ho about

Kya Baat Hai! Ali's finally getting to exhibit his flair for comedy
his new film with David Dhawan film called Partner in which he plays an advertising professional. And that's not all that the versatile actor is doing these days. He's also starring in a Bhojpuri film titled Main Bal Brahmacharya Tu Kanya Kuwari, directed by Mahesh Pandey, a co-production with his alma mater, Balaji Telefilms.

"Partner is a typical David Dhawan film, I would call it a combination of Salman, Govinda and David film! It's an out an out comedy and I am a character working in an ad agency with Lara Dutta and Arti Chabbria. I am even called Ali in the film," laughs Ali.

The actor, also seen in Hum Paanch these days, says he had a mind blowing experience working with 'Davidji'. "Besides, I don't discuss anything with him.... I blindly follow the down to earth director who pampers his actors a lot," reveals Ali, himself a David Dhawan fan. He's already shot for two days for the film.

Ali plays a comedian in the Bhojpuri film too.
"I trust Mahesh a lot, having worked with him earlier. But the language is difficult and I have to start working on my diction soon. Again, it's a fun-filled comedy and I don't want to reveal too much about the film," says Ali, who is working in a Bhojpuri film for the second time. The new film also stars Sikander Kharbanda (Indraneil from Kasautii Zindagii Kay) from the Balaji clan.

Ali's finally getting to show his flair for comedy. Are other TV producers watching?

Mohnish Behl walks out of Kahaani role
By: Upala KBR
March 8, 2006

Mohnish Behl
Six months ago, when the character of Suyash Mehra (Mohnish Behl) was brought into Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, the audience was charmed by the arrogant, ruthless, brooding businessman who crossed swords with Parvati Agarwal (Sakshi Tanwar).

In fact, when Parvati's dead husband Om was supposed to come back from the dead, the popular demand was that he should stay dead and let Suyash romance Parvati.

Now, after almost two weeks of negotiations and a huge showdown with the creative director for the show, Sandiip Sikcand, Mohnish has decided to walk out of Kahaani.

He's out: Ekta

Ekta Kapoor admits Behl might not be playing the role any more. "Mohnish suddenly didn't want to go ahead with the track. It was his own call. We tried our best to talk him out of the decision, but he didn't want to. Now we are going ahead with another actor."

Says a Balaji source, "Anoop Soni has been finalised to play the role of Suyash Mehra and is waiting on standby." Are they changing the track? "No we are going ahead with what we had originally planned."

Won't marry Parvati

What was the problem with Mohnish? Says the source, "Mohnish suddenly felt that the show has become very Parvati-centric, and that he was not central any more. He's not okay with the track that might have him marrying Parvati. He doesn't want to marry her. He feels we told him at the last moment, but that's not true.

Also, Mohnish is very bitter about leaving Jai Walia's (Ram Kapoor) role in Kasamh Se, which is doing very well. He told us that his wife (Ekta) watched Kasamh Se and told him that he shouldn't have left it.

But it's difficult working with someone like Mohnish as it is. He won't be able to work in two serials; he gives us only 20 days in a month, with no block dates; works only till 7 pm and build up his character in only 12 hours."

Anoop Soni
What happened after he made his displeasure clear? "He threw a big scene and was extremely rude to Sandeep and the entire unit. He shouted at all of them and this upset Ekta. Sakshi is very cooperative as far as dates are concerned and she's been the principal protagonist for the last five years. Mohnish's last day of shooting is March 20."

However the source adds, "The final decision on whether Mohnish will play Suyash Mehra or not will have been decided last night, when people from Star Plus met Ekta. They want to talk to him one final time."

Sikcand remains non-committal. "Let's wait and see what happens. I don't want to comment on it. These problems crop up very often and Balaji is very well versed in tackling and rising above the situation.

But one thing is for sure, Balaji won't change the track or the story. The show is all-important and above everything. It won't suffer. Kahaani is doing very well and we won't let anything affect the show," he says.

Is Kahaani Parvati-centric? Says Sandeep, "It is Parvati Agarwal's story and will remain that. The whole idea of Suyash Mehra is no less important. It's the first time that we are playing two characters on an equal height. There is lots more that is going to happen in Suyash Mehra's life."

Is Anoop Soni finalised to take Mohnish's place? "No comment," adds Sandiip.

However, Mohnish Behl was unavailable for comment

Chetan's fired up

Chetan Hansraj

What's up with Chetan Hansraj these days? The actor is busy gearing up for his film directed by Raj Kanwar.

Besides that he's busy spending time with his son Ethen. Initially he wanted to to name his baby Rocco, but his dad recommended a name that would be numerologically sound.

"My dad reads books on numerology, so he asked me to think of another name. I came up with Ethen, cause it sounded really nice, and was added up to a good number."

Recently the actor was in news for his views on working in television, where he compared it to serving time in jail. When questioned about the same, he said, "Yes I did say it was grueling and tiring. But I didn't compare working in Balaji to those conditions. I will always be grateful to Ekta for giving me a platform and making me who I am."

Ali Asgar moves house

Ali Asgar has bought another house for himself, this time at Yari Road, in Andheri in suburban Mumbai.

Ali Asgar moving to a new sea-facing house

An excited Ali says his new house is a two bedroom kitchen pad. Currently, he stays in an apartment in Palm Court at Malad, an one bedroom hall kitchen flat.

"My new house is a sea-facing flat. It's truly mind-blowing and I should be shifting in by the end of March. The interiors are being done by one of my friends who has helped me out previously too," says Ali.

The actor plans to keep his Malad flat intact and has no plans of selling it off as it's the first house that he ever bought.

Life's looking good for this actor who has two films(Partner and Main Bal Brahmacharya Tu Kanya Kuwari) and two television shows(Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Hum Paanch) in hand besides looking forward to his new possesion by the end of this month.

Rupali, Aamir rift over prize money
By: Sandipan Dalal
March 9, 2006

Rupali Ganguly and Aamir Ali
The cold war on the sets of Star Plus daily Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii has Rupali Ganguly and Aamir Ali locking horns over differences they had while participating in Bluffmaster, a game show that aired on Star One.

Sources say things became bitter between the two when Aamir was deprived of the prize money the actors won in a special episode of Bluffmaster.

However, Ganguly denies this. "I have the reputation of fighting with all my male co-stars; but it's all in good humour. And as far as Aamir is concerned, we share a cordial relationship. You cannot be great friends with all your colleagues. Also, we hardly share screen space, so where's the time to fight?"

Dignified response

Ali was more forthcoming. "It's true that we had some differences, and since then, we are no more on talking terms. But it's below my dignity to dig out the past and talk about it publicly. I've forgotten about what Rupali did to me, and don't want to humiliate her by discussing the issue."

In a special episode last year, telly actors Sanjit Bedi, Shraddha Nigam, Vivek Mushran along with Ali and Ganguly, had participated. The group won Rs 4,50,000. While the prize money was divided equally among all actors, Ali was kept away.

Sanjit's doing

Says an actor who wished not to be named, "Sanjit took the effort to divide the sum. He took care of the income tax and other formalities. I think it was unfair of him to deprive Aamir from it, as we won the sum because of team effort.

As far as I know, Aamir never really quarrelled over the money but had voiced his displeasure to them. After that, he stopped interacting with all of us. Rupali was quite close to him and would even land up at his place to have biryani. But now it's all over."

Adita Wahi to wed director
By: Shaheen Parkar
March 16, 2006

Adita Wahi
Telly actress Adita Wahi (Shefali of Saarrthi and Mayuri of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii) will tie the knot with director Ameet Sawant on March 18. The ceremony will be held in New Delhi, with a reception in Mumbai later.

Low-key

Unlike most telly stars who go to town about their big day, there has been no great buzz about Adita's nuptials. Reluctantly, she agrees to speak on the subject. But now that she is getting married, why be so evasive.

"I prefer it this way and so does he," she says, three days before her big moment.

We caught up with Adita when she was boarding a flight to New Delhi. "My family is based in Delhi, so the marriage is being held there. As Ameet is from Mumbai, we will have a function here as well."

Sawant directs non-fiction shows on Zee. "I had acted in one of his programmes," says the bride-to-be. It is learnt that Adita had been seeing Ameet for a while. "Ameet won't like all this," she repeatedly tells us.

Adita was first noticed in Star's afternoon soap Saarrthi as the conniving Shefali, who keeps on switching sides. Since the past few months, as Mayuri she has been a pillar of support to a crisis-ridden Parvati (Sakshi Tanwar), in Kahaani.
