It is a pet name given by bengali parents to their daugher which mean dear/sweetheart/darling though I have never heard it.I have heard parents calling their sons babai which is very similar to the word mamai so probably that is where it came from.There are many such pet names for daughters like sona,mana,mamoni,manik,manu etc.

We've more funny names so don't bother 🤣 And mamai comes from mamoni which means Ma (mother) our parents calls us mamoni sometimes like others call "beta"

I'm a bong and trust me I get seriously angry whenever I hear it.

What I feel is, someone told them here in Bengal, 'Papai/Babai' is a very common nickname for boys which is related to papa/baba.. So the creative team went one step further to create a hilarious 'Mamai' which probably comes from Maa/Mamma. But trust me nothing like Mamai exist here 😂.

For girls' Mummum (comes from Mumma) name is another common option in Bengali.

If Rohit has known Raima for 10 years & in relationship & her mum knows him - wont he know her mother calls her “mamoi”? So whats the point of Dugga aunty giving her name as Mamoi ?

As if Mamoi + recently out of coma is not enuf for Rohit to find her.

Well Raima's mom is effing crazy 🤪 The way she reacts to Rohit reminds me of the whole You-Know-Who in HP. She acts like Rohit is a terrorist who is after her daughter's life. I get her detest but this is stretching things a bit too far. But the day Raima starts pining for Rohit she will be more than happy to beg him to get back to her daughter. This woman is annoying. I hope we get to see very little of her.
