Rohit got up bright and early the next morning. No more shedding tears in silence and no more trying to decipher what was going on. He was going to visit her on set and get all his answers once and for all. Rohit had spent another sleepless night and decided it was best to take the morning off from the hospital.

He took a deep breath and looked at himself in the mirror. Hoping he didn’t look too worse for wear, he fixed his hair and attempted at a smile. Looks totally fake, a voice inside his head said. He ignored it and repeated the lines he spent the entire night rehearsing. Yes, he was ready to face Sonakshi.

Sonakshi was pacing outside her makeup room. She refreshed her page for the upteenth time and scrolled through the “KPK” tag on twitter.

“When real life mirrors reel life. On screen shaadi ke baad ab offscreen shaadi karenge Kunvati.” Sonakshi scoffed loudly at the headline and clenched her fists in anger. They needed to put an end to this. She couldn’t wait for the press conference happening in a few hours. The lawyers wanted to prep the case before the conference so they had to wait a little. If she found the dirtbag who did this, she would teach them a lesson of a lifetime! She couldn’t believe that they had to explain and clarify something as silly as this to the media! What a mess! Sonakshi controlled her anger, turned and bumped into someone rather tall.

“Congrats Sonakshi. I’m surprised I didn’t get an invite. Shaadi ke baad batane ka irada tha kya?”

The voice was irritatingly sarcastic and Sonakshi realized she forgot one very important person is all of this. But it wasn’t her fault! Ever since the news broke, all she had been doing was damage control. Each and every person was hell bent on getting on her nerves and the 6 ft 2 inch man in front of her was no different.

It was at that moment, Sonakshi realized she had a really bad urge to strangle someone all day. Maybe she would start with Dr. Surgeon himself.

She looked up at him fiercely, ready to decend on him like a storm when she noticed his eyes. They were tired and puffy, lacking the usual playful innocence. Even though his words oozed with his usual sarcasm, none of it was reflecting on his face. Sonakshi felt a strange stirring inside her as she stared at the man before her. He looked so broken and it took all her strength to not pull him into her arms that very moment.

Rohit was shocked as he heard the words in his own voice. As Sonakshi would say, he was deviating from the script. This was not what he intended to start the conversation with. This was supposed to be a rational and calm conversation. But after somehow seeing her on set and remembering her interview from the day before, he felt a surge of anger overpower his ability to think. Most of all, he felt hurt that she didn’t bother to tell him about such a life changing decision. Rohit swallowed, not sure how to continue when Sonakshi spoke up.

“Rohit, there is something you need to know. Arjun and I—-“

“Do you love him?” Sonakshi looked up to see Rohit staring at her. His gaze burned her, yet she didn’t feel angry at all. Instead, she felt all the anger leave her body as her hand reached up on its own to caress his cheek. Rohit didn’t even flinch nor did he move away, he closed his eyes taking in her touch. He instinctively placed his hand over hers and leaned in to kiss her palm. Sonakshi closed her eyes and sighed. She missed this intimacy between them. She missed the soul stirring purity of his touch and how it made her feel. She missed him.

“Please tell me you don’t love him, Sonakshi. Please! Please.” With every word his voice became more of a whisper as he moved closer, still holding her hand to his lips. Sonakshi leaned in closer, taking in his heady scent. He always smelled so fresh and masculine. His presence never failed to make her dizzy with need. Rohit took her hands and placed them around his neck.

“Sonakshi,” he whispered huskily, rubbing his bearded cheek against her arm.

Sonakshi licked her lips nervously as his hands circled her waist. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t deny that Rohit made every fiber of her being feel alive. Sonakshi leaned forward to take in more of his touch and he pulled her closer to him.

Rohit felt every coherent thought leave his mind. All the questions he wanted to ask were now a jumble in his mind. He needed her, so badly for she was the only one who made him feel so alive. Ignoring the fact that they were standing outside her makeup room, he leaned forward and buried his face in her hair. Rohit took a deep breath and sighed. This was the peace that evaded him all his life.

After a few minutes, Sonakshi realized where they were. She slowly pulled away from Rohit and looked up at him. The confusion and hurt in his eyes made her realize just how lost he felt in all of this. She decided to clear things once and for all.

“I don’t love Arjun. That news that created so much hungama yesterday was entirely false.” Rohit literally sighed in relief and ran his hand through his hair, causing one strand to fall across his eyes. Sonakshi had to admit, Dr. Surgeon was super easy on the eyes.

As she watched his animated actions, Sonakshi bit back a smile. He was such a character. He claimed to dislike Indian tv but she never met anymore more dramatic in her entire life.

She couldn’t help herself so she added “I never thought Dr. Surgeon Rohit Sippy would fall for such chatpata masaledaar news. Didn’t it occur to you that the whole situation was just a bit too contrived and convenient? Ab kaha gaya logic?” Rohit narrowed his eyes and leaned closer.

“What about that interview?”

“For that, you should ask Vimmy what is currently going on in KPK. Woh-

“Yeah Kunal and Parvati are getting married again.” Rohit gasped as the words left his lips and Sonakshi simply burst into laughter. She clutched her stomach in pain as more laughter bubbled inside her. Taking a moment to catch her breath, she realized that she hadn’t laughed so much since she decided to distance herself from Rohit. That thought alone made her realize how much she missed him.

Rohit looked away, embarrassed at what he confessed but also because her laughter was causing his heart to flutter. And Rohit Sippy’s heart did not flutter!

“Yes, as you so kindly pointed out. Kunal and Parvati are getting married. They recently had their roka and will now do all the rasams for their wedding. Does that ring a bell Dr. Surgeon?”

Rohit turned to look at Sonakshi as realization washed over him.

“As an ardent fan, you should know the difference. Yes, I was talking about Parvati in that interview, not Sonakshi.”

“And I was talking about Kunal.” The duo turned to see Arjun approaching them.

“Someone is glowing today. I’m guessing you made up with Shonali last night.” Arjun blushed and Rohit looked at the two, still a little uncomfortable by the news from the day before.

“Ab kuch samaj aya Dr. Surgeon. Someone misused our interview and created such a sensational news. And everyone, including you believed it. We are planning to clear everything later today.”

Rohit took it all in and slowly it all made sense. He still felt a little angry. Not at Sonakshi, but at whomever did his. She works so hard and under no circumstance does she deserve to have this happen to her. Rohit wondered what anyone would gain from doing something so cheap. Interestingly enough, the word cheap brought a face to his mind. He made a mental note to follow up on that thought.

Arjun turned to Rohit, “I also hope you gathered from our conversation that I have a girlfriend, one whom I’m madly in love with and I’m planning to propose to her soon.”

“Lucky you! I hope atleast she says yes!” Rohit whispered under his breath but Sonakshi heard him.

“Of course she will say yes. Who can say no to Arjun.” She winked at Arjun who gave her a side hug. Rohit gave a sarcastic smile and Sonakshi shook her head at him.

“Anyway Netraji told us to head on over to the hall. The press conference will be happening in a bit.”

“You go on ahead. Rohit and I will join in a few.”

Arjun nodded and turned to Rohit. “My girl here is a gem. Don’t ever hurt her!” Rohit raised an eyebrow as Sonakshi chuckled taking in the exchange between the two men.

“Of course, typical serial ki dialouge baazi. Aap dono kya dialouge writer ko hamesha speed dial pe rakhte hain?”

Arjun gave Sonakshi a look which clearly said, good luck with this one. He shook his head and walked away. But he had a huge smile on his face. Sonakshi was finally going to get all the happiness she rightly deserved!

Sonakshi turned to Rohit and smirked. “So which outfit of Parvati’s was your favorite from this week’s episodes?”

“Very funny! Vimmy told me the story so I knew.”

“Acha, so you still belong to the anti-KPK camp?” Sonakshi was teasing but Rohit suddenly became silent.

“I respect you and your work so much Sonakshi. I didn’t before but I do now! You make people smile and give them hope! Trust me, it’s nothing short of magical!”

“Although, you do make people cry as well,” he teased.

“If it wasn’t for KPK, I don’t know how I would have stayed without seeing you for so long! I craved seeing you and hearing your voice. For me, KPK was biggest support during that time. I’m not ashamed to admit that I enjoy your work a lot! No one could be Parvati but you! I’m so proud you Sonakshi!”

Sonakshi had tears in her eyes. She wanted nothing more than burying herself into his arms but she also wanted to hear what he had to say.

“I never meant to disrespect you with that drama. I can’t imagine doing that to you! But I don’t regret what we did. It made me realize what we share and it’s something I have never felt with anyone before. Sonakshi, I didn’t come here today to put any pressure on you. I came here because you mean so much to me! Even if you don’t love me, I don’t want to lose you. You gifted me your friendship at a time when I felt all was lost in my life. For years, I felt nothing but pain and emptiness and I had no one to share it with. You held my hand and everything changed. I know I wasn’t able to be there as much—“

“You were always there for me Rohit. My father left me at age 12 and since then I had to overcome every obstacle myself. But that doesn’t mean I wasn’t afraid. I just never got the chance to express it. You held my hand and supported me. I could finally let out my fears! You helped me face all my fears and stood beside me, allowing me to become stronger. I have never felt safer in my life!”

Rohit leaned in and placed his forehead against hers. As the tears spilled from both of their eyes, they held on to each other. Despite the turmoil and exhaustion, they both felt strong.

“Whatever happens, don’t ever stop talking to me. I can’t go through this again Sonakshi.”

“I promise! But you need to promise that you won’t hurt me again!”

“I promise! I love you so much Sonakshi.” She didn’t need further proof. His raw pain and need in his voice was enough.

“I love you too Rohit!” She pulled away and looked up him. She could tell the impact her confession left on him.

“Sonakshi, agge jakar agar main proper tarekein se propose karuna, toh tum maana toh nahin karugi na? I don’t think I can go through that pain again.” His voice sounded so unsure and afraid that she pulled him in for a hug.

“I’m so sorry for everything I said that day! I didn’t want to be so harsh but I had to make sure this was all true! Rohit, I want you! There is no doubt there! But I do still need time, actually no I demand time. We spent so long doing that fake drama that I could never tell what was real and what was a scene from the drama. Now I want the real deal! From you!” She pulled away and smiled at him.

Rohit smiled through his tears and cupped her face. “I can’t wait to show you just how much I love you. I promise I will make it up to you each and every day from today on.”

“Thoda filmy nahin tha yeh dialouge?” Sonakshi teased as Rohit gave a mock frown.

“Well okay, let me try something else. I’m sure this doesn’t happen in your serial.” He captured her lips in searing kiss and it didn’t take long for her to participate.

He began by softly brushing his tongue against her lips seeking invitation, and she opened them just as quickly. Sonakshi moaned as Rohit brushed his tongue on the roof of her mouth and then moved to the inside of her cheeks. The friction he created made her knees give way. She held on to his shoulders to steady herself.

Rohit could feel her heart racing against his chest and he could barely hear anything above the loud thudding inside his own chest. He kissed her with every ounce of desperation and need inside of him. All the emotions that wrecked havoc inside him all these days, came pouring out.

Sonakshi wasn’t one to sit out on the action, not when it came to Rohit. She slid her tongue against his, causing Rohit to groan and pull her closer to his growing arousal. After some time, they broke apart for air, both breathing heavily. Before breaking apart, Rohit brushed his tongue one last time against her lower lip and traced the curve on the corner of her mouth in a slow torturous manner. Sonakshi felt her body go limp and she slid into his arms. Rohit hugged her tightly, trying to steady and compose himself.

Sonakshi finally pulled away and looked around. Thank god everyone left for the press conference, she thought. Then she gasped, they had to hurry! She looked at Rohit who smiled contently but she could tell he was exhausted.

“Rohit, why don’t you go take a nap inside my makeup room and then go to the hospital.” He started to protest but she stopped him.

“As soon as I am done here today, I will come over and we can continue.”

“Continue what?” Rohit teased and Sonakshi blushed.

“Continue our conversation.” She then moved closer to his ear and whispered “and maybe other things.” He groaned and she winked.

Rohit shook his head at his Pagal Parvati and they shared one more hug before she left. He went inside her room and smiled at how much of her presence he felt there. After a restless few days, he closed his eyes, letting the peaceful he felt engulf him.
