Kya gham hai jisse chupa rahe ho

He sighed as he walked slowly with her, the yellow street light casting their shadows onto the cobbled pavement. The sea was rough tonight, perhaps it sensed the turmoil within the two people walking along its shores. '' Let's sit here'' said Rohit as he climbed on the elevated structure and held out his hand to her. She smiled softly as he laid down his jacket on the concrete for then to sit.
''What an appropriate place to break up'' He chuckled softly as his sad eyes scanned the waters. ''You know some Mumbaikars might claim Marine Drive is overrated, and sometimes they are right, but it really is beautiful.'' Sonakshi closed her eyes as she leaned back on her hands. His attempt at small talk went unnoticed.
'' We can still be friends right? You can still talk to me and send me silly memes on the app you forced me to join. I can still call you late at night to complain about the lack of logic in your show. " She let out a short laugh " Right? " He asked, his voice earnest. Sonakshi chided herself because she thought she heard desperation in his words.
She wanted to tell him that it was okay to stay in touch, to tell him she wanted to hear his voice everyday, but she honestly did not know if she'd be okay.
He took her hands in his, her perfectly manicured nails against his cleanly cut short ones, he looked at her and said "Thanks Sonakshi, for playing along. For being my fake girlfriend and for putting up with me and my crazy, loud family. I am sorry for the discomfort you had to go through but I cannot express how grateful I am for you. You really helped me out."
Sonakshi gasped slightly, his sudden gratitude knocking her off her guard. It was like this every single time, the great surgeon, always stoic and logical and then he manages to tell some heartfelt words out of the blue, words that make her feel seen, make her feel important.
"I should probably leave." she said abruptly, checking her watch. "It's almost midnight, your family will also be waiting for you, they'll be worried." They had staged a huge, loud breakup in front of his family after which she had ran out with him following her. She wanted now to be alone so that she can finally break down; somehow amongst all that act, real feelings had crept in. There wasn't a single day she didn't curse her stupid little heart for falling for an emotionally unavailable man, she wondered how long it would take to get over him.
Rohit was reluctant to let her go. It somehow felt very final and he was not sure he liked that. He found a friend in her, it was rare for him with his busy schedule and academia. He could talk freely with her, be his judgemental self with her, laugh with her. He was not sure he made the right decision to risk all that with their fake relationship drama but he couldn't have predicted things would've ended this way. Technically, everything was according to plan. Their fifteen days were up but his heart did not agree to let her go. He wondered why.
He held her hand tighter "It's okay, they can wait. Just five more minutes." He whispered, not knowing how his words affected her.
"Just five more minutes" She whispered back, consoling her foolish heart.
Edit: should I continue this series?
