Very good question i hope someone can answer soon…
First of all I would like to offer my commiserations to all the loyal fans of the show, you guys have been cheated big time!
I had been following this show from the start but never really watched it episode by episode or involved myself in the forum, this is actually kinda my first post, the prime reason being Vankar has betrayed me in the past with ghkkpm💔
This show too like ghum, started on a good note. That one got to run nicely for a good few months before it was ruined, this one wasn't even that fortunate. I have been doing silent reading on this forum for a while now, I saw this post today so felt like answering.
I'm a hindu by birth and have also done some reading, since its a topic I'm deeply interested in. From what I've read and from the customs that are followed in my family, I can assure you just applying sindoor does not count as marriage. Religiously speaking, applying sindoor is a very important tradition of married women, but that by itself cannot constitute as a marriage. Its the 7 vows or saptpadi which form the main basis of the marriage. The seven vows are taken as the 7 pheras in few parts of the country, we have different method of taking them in our family.
As I saw someone else had also answered that it is different in south india.
Though the pandit ji was saying the mantras, that too cannot constitute as marriage. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there was any gathbandhan, nor did Gungun and Anubhav consciously promise each other to abide by the 7 vows, did they?
Sindoor is important, it cannot be treated like a casual cosmetic, that's why the Pandit ji asked them to marry properly, but at the cost of repeating my itself, applying sindoor alone cannot be marriage.
Akriti and Anubhav's marriage, on the other hand, was properly conducted with all the rituals and elder's blessings. So that was a proper marriage, its a different thing Anubhav seems to have flipped his decision after that, but their marriage happened with both of their consent (again, its a separate issue what the reasons were for the consent).
Legally also, sindoor alone doesn't count as a valid marriage, unless they can somehow prove that all other rituals were also done by Gungun and Anubhav, they will not be consider legally married either and legally, Akriti is his only wife. So legally, there is no question of bigamy either (his actions on the other hand, I'll not comment on it).
That being said, ITV hai, anything can happen
Regarding divorce and annulment, I'm not aware what the laws are.
Cheers❤️
