But one major difference b/w Kabir & Pankaj is that Pankaj was heavily dependent on his family, and incapable of supporting anybody, his bravado to the contrary notwithstanding, whereas Kabir has a considerable distance from his family already, and Jyoti can't make it worse.
In Pankaj's case, Jyoti never bothered to look @ what's in his family, nor was her family involved, since she had disowned them at the time. Had she done a background check, Bhairavi alone would have convinced her to say no to Pankaj. But here, w/ Kabir, she now knows that he lives alone, has a handful of friends, like Amit and whoever else he plays pool w/, and no connections to his family.
So even if Kabir does have relatives who won't like Jyoti, it won't matter, since they won't be living w/ him, and ergo her. So that risk is no longer there. The only other thing Jyoti might want to worry about is whether Kabir has a papparazi following, since he's a member of the royal family.
Also, I disagree w/ the claim above that men tend to give more importance to their family than their spouses. That's more true of women. Once married, men tend to grow apart from their parents and others in the family, while women tend to fuse into their in-laws as well as their own maaykas.
