Now, TV actors sing their own songs
It's become a common thing in Bollywood to have lead actors do the playback for a song in their upcoming film. Interestingly, this trend is now being followed by the Indian television industry.
Recently, the protagonists of Colors Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha did a playback for the title song of their show.
"During the scratch recording, the music director and I thought that we should use a style which has never been used in television songs before. We then thought of using the actors' voices to get the expressions correct," says Sudhir Sharma, producer of the show. Thus, while singers Mahalaxmi Iyer and Shree have sung the song, Kunal Karan Kapoor and Aakanksha Singh's voice has been used in between to express their personal point of view on the current situation of their characters Megha and Mohan.
The producer explains, "Remember the song Yeh Kaha Aa Gaye Hum from Silsila? The original playback was done by a professional singer, but the protagonist, Amitabh Bachchan sang a few lines in between, expressing his thoughts as the character. We have done the same thing."
Meanwhile, producer Yash Patnaik of Life OK's TV show Junoon is all set to record the show's second song. With the change in the story line, the need to have a new tune was felt. Patnaik explains, "Aditya Redij as Prithvi and Mouni Roy as Meera hated each other, but the new development will see the two falling madly in love with each other. This calls for a new song that goes with the story line."
Toshi-Sarib (Raaz, Jannat fame), who recorded a song for the show earlier, have been approached to record the new song.
