Calcutta, my Calcutta, as I grew up calling it, was and is always an intellectual city brewing storms over tea cups and passionate about everything be it sports like cricket, football, tennis, kabaddi or art be it cinema, theaters, exhibitions, museums, planetorium, horticultural show or be it food or be it Literature!! This city never stops or limits its enthusiasm on anything and everything under the sun! In no cities you will see celebrations of Books like book fair in Calcutta, no where will you see festivals of food based on seasons, no where will you see a city decked up and alive with full gusto but Calcutta during Durga Puja, Christmas or Eid! And no where will you see programs and seminars and talks on eco-social topics, poetries and shayaris, literatures of the world, on political situation and systems!! People will be there to cheer you on!! Even in middle of water logged streets during monsoon, or mosquitoes driven winter or scorching heat enveloped summer...people ceaselessly are cheering for anything and everything that comes their way embracing it and making it their own! You are expected to eat and partake sweets and food if you go to someone's house no matter what day or time of the day! The city knows how to make you its own with all the love and passion it bestows! Yes, it is my city, my City of Joy, my Tilottama Kolkata, my beautiful Calcutta! 😃

And you will know about the passion of Calcuttans from this very writing of mine! All are knowledgeable, learned, intellectuals and yet they live in their own world oblivious of what they have or not have! They are modern but are rooted in the old tradition and are proud to be so and yet their eyes are set for the future to uplift them from the orthodox traditions with modern inventions and developments! Such is this city of mixture and paradox where Persis, Anglo Indians, Chinese, Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Punjabis, Marwaris, Bengalis reside side by side enjoying and celebrating anything that comes their way with food, art, music and amity! 😃

Tere darwaaze se aane se maghroor hoon main,

Shahr-e-daastaan Kolkata ka kabhi makiin thi main!

Aaj bhi meri saanson mein woh basti hai, hansti hai,

Uss ki zabaan-e-khazana se aaj bhi mithaas baheti hai!

Apna chhota sa salaam hamesha tere naam pe meri Jaan,

Kalkatta, tum jeeyo leke apni masti, aan baan aur shaan!

I am proud to come from your doorstep,

The Tale of City Kolkata's resident was I,

Even today the city lives in my breath, in my laughter,

And in its language even today the sweetness flows,

To you, forever, I convey my small salute, my love,

Calcutta, may you live with your fun, pride and glory!
