(On seeing the letter from Kakisa, there grew a hope in Harkha's heart. She hoped that her Kakisa's heart will thaw and that she would call her to meet them)

OPCHAARIK PATR HAI AAVASHYAK NAHI HAI KI MILAN HI HO ISKA ANJAAM'
(On seeing Heera hopeful, Gauri remarked, 'hold your horses Heera. This is but a formal letter and nothing in it indicates that there may be a meeting soon')
KHIJ KAR HARKHA AAINA DEKHE, AUR BHI KRODH PHIR USKO AAYE
HRIDAY TO SAHIB KA PEHLE HI THHA, AB ADHARON KO BHI LIYA APNA BANAAYE
(Harkha was irritated. When she glanced into the mirror she became even more angry. Her heart was already in Sahib's possession, now it seemed to her that he has taken possession of her lips as well)
'HEERA, BOLO NA VAADIYON MEIN USS DIN KYA BAATEIN KI SAHIB KE SAATH?
AISA KYA HUA JO PRATEET HOTA HAI KI TUMHARI SPHOORTI LE GAYE WO APNE SAATH?'
('Heera, what happened between you and the Sahib in the valleys? Why does it seem to me that he took your energy with him when he left?')
AISA KYON LAGTA HAI MUJHKO KI TUM ABHI BHI UNSE KRODHIT HO

(Harkha was blessed with the gift of the gab, but she could not find words to refute Gauri's accusations. She would wonder every night as to how such quiet person had the ability to breathe life into their home)
BAARISH KI BOONDEIN MAND MAND JAB BARSI, SANG LAYE THANDI PHOOHAAR
JHAT KHIDKI KI ORE CHALI HARKHA, MAN MEIN USKE KHUSHI APAAR
(Soon there was a pleasant breeze and the sounds of falling raindrops were heard. Harkha immediately rushed towards the window. Her mind was filled with happiness)
SAATH HI KHURON KI DHWANI SUNI TO, USKE DIL NE LAGAAYI PUKAAR
'AB CHAIN PADEGA HARKHA TUJHKO, AAYEGI NEEND TERE NAINON KE DWAAR'
(When she heard the hoof beats too, her mind called out to her saying, 'You will now find peace, Harkha. Perhaps now sleep will make its home in your eyes)
'BAISA JAAGO, GHAUR SE SUN LO SAHIB KA AAYA HAI YE AADESH
AAPKO APNE KAKSH MEIN BULAYA HAI, UNKA SAATHI LAYA HAI SANDESH'
('Baisa, wake up! Khan Sahib's man has come with his message that the Sahib has summoned you to his chamber)
GHAAYAL AZEEZ KO DEKH KE HARKHA SAMAJH GAYI POORI BAAT
MADAD CHAHIYE UNKO ISLIYE UNHONE HAI MAANGI YE MULAKAAT
(Taking a look at Azeez's injured hand Harkha understood that the Sahib had probably summoned her because he was in need of her help)
WAHAN PAHUNCHKAR HARKHA NE DEKHA KI SAHIB KA TO THHA BAHUT BURA HAAL
MEZ PAR SHEESH RAKH KURSI PE BAITHHE THHE, PADE THHE VE NISHABD NIDHAAL
(On reaching the Sahib's chamber Harkha saw that he was in a bad shape. He was sitting on the chair with his head down on the table. He was silent and not moving at all)
SAHIBA KO DEKH KE CHAUNKE SAHIB, AZEEZ KI SAMAJH GAYE WO CHAAL
GHAAVON AUR RAKT KE BAHAAV KE KAARAN UNKA SHAREER THHA KAMZOR BAHAAL
(Sahib was shocked to see the Sahiba in his chamber, but he immediately worked out Azeez's ploy. Due to his injuries and blood loss, his body was very weak and battered)
VASTRA HATE TO HARKHA CHAUNKI DEKH KE SHAREER KE NISHAANON KI GINTI
'PATTI NAHI, TAANKE LANGENGE, AFEEM CHAAT LEIN, MERI HAI VINTI'
(Once he removed his cloak and tunic, Harkha was astounded counting the marks on his body. She said, 'Bandages wouldn't suffice, you will need stitches, hence I request you to please use the opium)
ISHWAR KA NAAM LEKAR HARKHA NE APNA UPCHAAR AARAMBH KIYA
SAHIB KO PEEDA SE CHILLATE SUNKAR BHI USNE APNA HAATH NA DOOR KIYA
(Harkha began her treatment after taking God's name. Even though the Sahib was screaming in pain, she never winced or took her hand back)
EKAAEK SAHIB SHAANT HO GAYE, CHILLAAHAT BILKUL BAND HUI
PHIR HAATH MEIN TAVEEZ LIYE PRARTHANA KARTE SAHIB PAR HARKHA KI NAZAR PADI
(Suddenly the Sahib turned silent. It was then that Harkha noticed that he was praying, holding on to the Taveez in his hand)
PHIR JALDI JALDI HARKHA NE POORN KIYA APNA UPCHAAR
USKI SUI SE NIJAAT MILI TO SAHIB KO BHI AAYA KARAAR
(Then Harkha hurried and finished her treatment. The Sahib, too was relieved when her work with the needle ended)
SAMAAN BAANDH KAR HARKHA PALTI, USSE APNE KAKSH MEIN JAANA THHA
TABHI SAHIB BOLE, 'SAHIBA, MUJHE MAHARAJ CHITTARANJAN KA PATRA AAYA THHA'
(Once done Harkha packed her stuff and was about to leave. Then Sahib said, 'Sahiba, I recieved a letter from Maharaj Chittaranjan')
'ASHEESH BHEJE HAIN HUM DONO KO, AUR YE BAAT DILAAYI HAI YAAD
JAGDAMBA MANDIR MEIN KARNA HAI DURGA SAHIBA KA CHALEESA SHRAADH'
('He has sent us both his blessings and has reminded us that the Fortieth day rituals for Durga Sahiba have to be performed at the Jagdamba temple')
KAKASA KA NAAM SUNTE HI HARKHA PHIR SAPNON MEIN KHONE LAGI
SAHIB NE BHI YE BHAANP LIYA KI MADHUR MILAN KE SWAPN WO DEKHNE LAGI
(On hearing Kakasa's name Harkha was lost in her dreams, yet again. Even Sahib noticed that her heart was imagining dreams of a sweet reunion)
DUKHI THHE SAHIB KI VAASTAVIKTA THHI HARKHA KE SAPNON SE BAHUT HI DOOR
MAHARAJ NE AASHEESH BHEJE TO THHE, PAR GLAANI SE BHARE THHE VE BHARPOOR
(The Sahib was sad to note that alas, the reality was very far from Harkha's dreams. Yes the Maharaj had sent them his blessings, but his words were shrouded in disdain)
'KUCHN DIN BAAD JAB MAIN SWASTH HO JAAOONGA TO CHALENGE MANDIR KARNE YE KARYA
WAHAN KE ASHVA MELE MEIN JAANA MERE LIYE BHI HAI ANIVAARYA
('Once I'm better, we will go to the temple town for the rituals. There's a horse fair there which is imperative for me to attend)
