JA FF : Warriors in Love

CHAPTER SIX - Part Two

Jodha left her room without anyone knowing but couldn't stay alone even for a minute.
"Jodha, where are you going? Rani Manvati ordered that you don't get out of your room and rest."
When Moti Bai mentioned her mother, Jodha got saddened remembering that she had lied to her, and that she had almost gotten her married to the dishonourable Kunwar Pratap.
"I want to eat, and I will cook lunch myself today." On the way to the palace's kitchen, Jodha passed by Sujamal's room and stole a glance inside. She was surprised to see that Roshni wasn't there, and that her brother was looking depressed.
She started thinking to herself confusedly : Hey Ishwar...I've never seen Bhaiya this sad in my life, and Roshni isn't here. I don't think she would try to escape a second time, then what happened?

Suddenly, Sujamal walked towards the door, from where Jodha was looking inside with Moti Bai behind her, and they ran away as fast as they could so that the Rajkumar wouldn't see them.
(The professional spying and eavesdropping duo )

They quickly arrived to the royal kitchen where, luckily, no servants were at this time of the day.
"Don't make spying a habit, or they'll find us out." Muttered Moti Bai as she caught her breath.
"I won't be found out alone, that's what matters." Laughed Jodha.

After nearly 2 hours, the Rajkumari finished cooking a delicious meal, however she burnt her hand while pouring the food into plates.
"Jodha!"
Sukanya, who had the habit of coming to the kitchen at random times of the day when she got hungry, happened to come at that moment. "Who's Jodha?"

Moti Bai, who was taking care of her friend's bruise, looked at her awkwardly, but Jodha didn't hide anything or think of lying.
"I am. My name is Jodha."
She told her sister the whole story about her new name, and also that Muhammad was a Mughal.
"Unbelievable. You went all that way to take back a maang tikka, and he gave you a name so you accepted it easily, like it was a gift." Commented Sukanya with a wide smile.
Jodha's face reddened." What do I do? It's my favourite maang tikka, and I liked the name."
"Not just the name, you like the one who gave it to you."

For the first time, Jodha did not deny that...

Usually, the meals in the Amer Palace were a joyful time of family bonding, however, today it wasn't the case. Raja Bharmal and Rani Manvati who were privately discussing something, weren't there. And the tension between Kunwars Sujamal and Bhagwant Das wasn't something they tried to hide, sharing glares of anger.
Siukanya got curious at that. "There is a problem between them, do you know what happened?"
"I've got doubts, but I'll tell you later. Eat first, curiosity doesn't fill the stomach."

MEANWHILE...

Raja Bharmal got furious when his wife finally plucked up the courage to tell him about Shagoni Bai's prediction.
"Two weeks, you've known for two weeks and you didn't tell me. Not only that, you wanted to rush Hira's engagement. What a pity, you lied to me as though she's only your daughter and not mine."
"Mujhe maaf karado. I did not know what to do, and I still don't know what we're supposed to do. Shall we let our daughter marry a Mughal?"
"Obviously not, but we will believe in our daughter, and in her Rajvanshi pride. That will be enough to stop that old woman's myths from ever happening."

IN JODHA'S ROOM...

"You mean, Sujamal has kept Mr. Soldier's servant in his room to investigate with her, but instead fell in love with her. And that same servant was once abused by Kunwar Pratap? Hey Bhagwan...Why did you hide all of this from me?!"
"You were busy dreaming about your Rajkumar Suryaban, I didn't want to interrupt you."
"Don't change the subject because it has to do with you, too. If she left then maybe Mr. Soldier left as well!"
Jodha got anxious thinking of that possibility. "No, that's impossible, I asked him to come to the Amer Bazaar so that we could continue our conversation, and he accepted my request."
"That's true." Said Moti Bai. "But it won't be easy for you to meet him now. Rani Manvati will surely find out this time, she doesn't even want you to get out of your bed!"
Jodha got nervous. "What should I do now?"
She then begun to look at her sister weirdly. "If you stay in my bed, nobody will know that I got out."
"But, I'm much thinner than you, they'll find out for sure."
"Stop your nonsense, you'll be under the covers and they won't see anything."
"Fine, for your beloved soldier."
"Be...what? Chup raho!."
After that, Jodha begun to look between her dresses for a simple one to disguise with.
Sukanya pointed to one. "That one is lovely, choose it."
"I'm not adorning myself, I want to look like an average woman from the people."
"Sure, sure. That's why you have been looking through your dresses for fifteen minutes." Replied Sukanya mockingly. "And besides, you will never look like an average woman for Mr. Soldier, because you're special for him."
Moti quietly laughed while Jodha went to change her clothes.
"She really does feel something for that soldier, and although we accept that, if it comes to be known, Jodha will be humiliated."
"She said it herself, if we don't tell, it won't be known."
After she finished changing, Jodha got out and looked into the mirror.
"How do I look?"
"Dull." Answered Sukanya.
Jodha got vexed. "What do you mean?"
Sukanya took a few colourful bracelets and put them around her sister's wrists.
"A woman without bracelets is like a dull star."
Jodha got very surprised. "Since when can you talk seriously? Is it Kunwar Suryaban's effect on you that you can finally speak like people should?"
The younger sister laughed loudly. "I'm never going to change. He will love me as I am."
"Poor him, then. He's going to love a crazy woman."
"And Mr. Soldier loves a rude woman who'll leave him waiting. Jaldi!"

IN THE AMER BAZAR...

Jalal arrived, excited to meet Jodha, however, as soon as he came, he heard something that destroyed his excitement at once and angered him.
Everybody in the bazar was talking about the King's daughter and how she got engaged yesterday!

Jodha was looking about eagerly, trying to find him within the crowd.
"Jodha, maybe he didn't come."
"That's not possible, I'm sure that he will come."
Suddenly, Jalal bumped into a woman in the crowd, and before he could apologise to her, he saw that same Rajkumari he wasn't even allowed to think about anymore.
He tried to walk past her without any reaction, but a single word was enough to stop him.

"Muhammad..." Whispered Jodha.
"Badhaiyaan Rajkumari Sahiba. I've heard about your engagement."

Jodha felt frustrated at the soldier's misunderstanding but simply cleared it up.
"Raja Bharmal has three daughters, and I'm not anyone's fiance."
She also thought to herself : And Ishwar has decided that I wouldn't be with anyone but you.
Jalal felt relieved upon hearing that, and apologised.
"I would like two things before I forgive you."
"Your wish is my command, Rajkumari Sahiba."
"Firstly, that, do not call me Rajkumari Sahiba. Just Jodha. I'm only an average woman now."
You call yourself an average woman, yet you have my present trapped between the delicacy of your fingers and your eyes' beauty.

(I tend to get poetic with my favourite couples like AkDha , I hope you readers don't mind.)

"And, of course, I would like to hear the rest of your story."
"Which story?"
"No child starts learning swordplay aged 5 without a reason."
He was happy with the attention she gave him, and mostly with the fact that she remembered what he had said before.
After they sat in a calm place, he told her many things about his childhood, and she laughed a lot while hearing about his petulances with other kids.

(Thank God he didn't tell her about his marriage to Ruqaiyah, since it happened during childhood too. 😆)

"Do you regret coming here? Don't you miss the war zone?"
"Why would I miss it, here, too; there is a war."
Jodha looked at him confusedly. "What do you mean by that?"
Jalal replied in a tone that was unlike him, a tone of hushed shyness; and he even blushed. "You & I both know what I mean, guess."
"The war between the Rajputs and Mughals. Hatred. A war between the nations we belong to and the hearts we don't have control over."
And that way occurred the very first confession of the Jazbaath that was between them.
And Jalaluddin Muhammad doubted that the odd feeling that blossomed in his chest when he was around him might be from a heart, that same heart of which he had denied the existence of for years before they met.

(Shocked? Don't be, there's still a ton of romance on the way, readers!)

IN AGRA'S HAREM...

Ruqaiyah Begum had chosen Benazir to dance in Shahenshah's presence after his return, and the evil Benazir was now excited.
"Why're you so glad when Shahenshah hasn't even seen you yet?"
"Didn't I tell you, Zakira. Shahenshah-E-Hind will only be a way for me to take my revenge from that woman."

IN ONE OF THE MUGHAL PROVINCES...

Under a burning sun, before the doors of a luxurious castle, hundreds of angry subjects were protesting against the injustice of the province's governor, Abullmali.

Only her arrival had them fall quiet...
"Tell me, what problem do you have?"
"Adaab Huzur. We have been suffering repetitive thefts for months, and our complaints were ignored by the governor, even when we brought one of the thieves here, he was set free without any investigation."

Her passion of justice and the brightness in her brown eyes were things she had in common with her brother Jalaluddin.
"I will personally investigate this theft's matter and your losses will be compensated from the royal treasury. As long as I am here, I won't allow injustice to be committed against subjects.
Aur yeh Shahzadi Esmanur ka vaada!"

Hello guys! I stayed up late to write this part so I really hope you enjoyed it!
I've chosen the beautiful Arjumman Mughal to play the role of Shahzadi Esmanur Jalal's sister & Abullmali's wife. I'd like to hear my lovely readers' opinions and expectations about the character. Thank you for reading!
