Actually, Akka, you have almost hit the nail on the head! It is like an annotated text, something similar to the Shakespeare plays we used to read at school, with footnotes and explanations on every page.

All but the opening part, that is, the one listing the various ingredients of the romantic scene. That was largely tongue in cheek, and also a little celebration of Lashy's unrivalled originality in such matters.

I have never heard of a jalamandali, but it sounds fearful, and I am astonished that at two, when your nervous system must have been so delicate still, you were bitten by one and survived. Or maybe, as they say that only boys die of its bite, it is an extra chivalrous creature!😉 I hope no one tells Babloo about this, he will be shocked and most disapproving!😆

I once put my finger into the keyhole of a door when I was three, and there was a baby scorpion snugly tucked away there that bit me neatly on the forefinger. This was at my nana's place at Pudukkottai, near Trichy. The house was built on freshly cleared ground, so all sorts of venomous creatures must have been displaced in the process and they probably wandered into the newly built house! I was told that they did everything for that bite from allopathy to manidirukkirathu with special vibhuti and so on. Obviously I survived, but I have no memory of it at all.

The illustrations are very cleverly chosen, Akka, especially the one with Alice, and the one of Scylla and Charybdis. And I loved the one of me popping up like a gopher coming out of its lair! You have a truly tremendous flair for locating just the right passage or picture for any situation at all, no matter how out of the way it is!👏

I am feeling rather washed out today, and shall probably go to sleep in a little while, after I have taken a look at pages 68 and 95.

I first have to do something about my poor midriff, which was already in bad shape,and has now been further racked by the accompaniments of unrestrained mirth on my part. If I suffer a relapse, Akka, it will be all your fault!

This one is the cat's whiskers, no two opinions about that. It is hysterically funny and preternaturally solemn at the same time, which is a deadly combo.

The former is almost exclusively due to Babloo's artless interjections, the best of which I have marked in bold blue.

The latter is all courtesy you, the disclaimer, the acknowledgments at the end, the works.

Delightful would be a major understatement. Thanks so much for flagging this for me, I would surely have missed it otherwise.

Bahadur, the Great Horse.

My dear friends,

This story is about a horse that lived long long ago.

(Babloo: Its horsie'kka)

The story starts like this...

Once upon a time there lived a rich man who had many horses. But he was fond of only one black horse, which was his pet. He called him Bahadur. Bahadur also liked his master.

(Babloo: What is his name'kka?)

Bahadur's master was called Akbar Mohamud Khan. (He is a different Akbar. But my lil brother Babloo confuses him with Jalal uncle of Jodha Akbar.. He doesn't know that Jodha Akbar uncle's horse is not called Bahadur..)

Akbarkhan meets a beautiful girl Harka in the forest.Harka's sister was Durga. But

Durga was killed by bad guys..Poor Durga.. Harka cried and cried..😭😭

(Babloo: 'kka, are you writing sob story?)
Good Lord, the kid already knows what a sob story is!😆

And then when she was coming in a dooly, this Akbar saw her. He asked her why she was crying..

(Babloo: I know why...Because her sister was killed by bad guys..)

He said," Don't worry girl, I will take you to my house.."

So, Harka and her friend Bindu went to his place..

( Babloo:😲 What? Bindu'kka went to his house? In Time Machine?)
Babloo, your Baby'kka is using the short form for Harka's maid Bindiya. It is not your Bindu'kka from the IF, unless of course she was born as that impudent chatterbox Bindiya 350 years ago!

After two or three days, Akbarkhan went to the forest riding on Bahadur..

(Babloo: Did he go for tiger hunt ? Was it Mohan tiger? But didn't Jalal uncle kill him with his small knife?)

And when both of them were travelling, Bahadur went near a wire fence (grandma helped me with this word) and got hurt..

( Babloo: Did he cry?)
Babloo, I am very disappointed in you! Don't you know that men, even men horsies, don't cry?

Akbarkhan was very upset because Bahadur was his best friend.

(Babloo: Who was Jalal Uncle's friend'kka?)
No one, Babloo kanna. He had a very good friend called Abdul in the beginning, but Abdul suddenly disappeared, and after that Jalal Uncle had no friends at all.If he had had someone as a friend, he would have been more sensible and happier too!

After he came back home he called the doctor but the doctor was not there.

So he didn't know what to do. At that time his uncle came there. Akbarkhan told him that Bahadur was wounded..He said that the doctor will come only tomorrow, and asked his uncle to do something..

Then the uncle got an idea..

He went to Harka and asked her to give medicine to Bahadur.

She agreed to see Bahadur, but Akbarkhan did not want her to come near his friend..

( Babloo: 'kka, was she an animal doctor?)

Akbhar Khan asked Harka the same koschen Babloo asked ...( I think Babloo will one day write the dialogue of some TV serial )

But Harka also liked the horse very much , and she said that she was not an animal doctor but will give him medicine till the doctor comes and sees him..

So Akbar 'llowed her to treat his pet horse..

( Babloo: Really?)

And Akbar took her to the shed where Bahadur was lying down.. Poor Bahadur.. There were tears in his eyes.. On seeing it cry, Akbarkhan was sad and also cried.

Then Harka said that she will do operation on it if Akbarkhan sang a song.. 😆

(Babloo: What? Will any one sing in the operation theatre?)
You have clearly not watched old Hindi films, Babloo. They used to do almost anything in an operation theatre in those films. Singing would have been nothing!

But Akbarkhan didn't sing, because he was very sad..He probably also had an awful singing voice!😉And even without singing, she finished the operation and gave him medicine..

( Babloo: Bitter medicine or sweet? Did she give sugar after Bahadur drank it?)

Akbarkhan was happy and he thanked her.

After he went back home he became hungry.. But there was no food there..

( Babloo: Where did he eat? did he go to a hotel?)

His uncle asked him to go and eat in Harka's house. He went there happily, because he liked her..

( Babloo: That's only because she cured his horsie..)
Yes, of course Babloo my pet. REAL men do not like girls, right?

Friends,I want to end this story here because Babloo is asking too many koschuns..

Harshu akka and other akkas, can you guess why I named the horse "BAHADUR"?😉

BA are the two letters from the name AKBAR, HA are from HARKA and DUR are from DURGA!
