Veer Singh had sunken in his thoughts. He couldn't scrutinize any doubts even in his wildest of the dreams about any ongoing conspiracy being hatched against him.
A kind of jittery feeling struck his heart that a few soldiers of Raj Singh and Jai Singh might have kidnapped jodha or hatched a plan to do so only to harass him and their lust and passion might have aroused seeing this epitome of beauty.
However, somewhere in his heart he knew that both Raj and Jai Singh were true rajput warriors and wouldn't stoop so low so as to carry out such an obnoxious act.
He was drifted from his reverie when d rajput warrior Amar Singh came and stood in front of him. Veer Singh couldn't really fathom on to his sudden approach and stared on at his face with mystified look.
Amar Singh calmly said, "I would advise you to refrain from love affairs as of now".
Hearing this Veer Singh in an affirmative tone said, "There is nothing that I could keep secret from you". "I have always been surrounded by enchanting beauties in my life but none have ever tried to captivate my mind and bathe me in the ocean of love".
Amar Singh reacted, "Now when the danger was lurking around it was better not to indulge in love and merry making".
Veer Singh hesitantly asked, "Is there any news for me?"
Amar Singh retorted, "The war is around the corner, it will commence in a day or two". "The emperor is out on his foot for this war".
"It should not be of much concern to us". "We long for prince Nazim's defeat and with his defeat everything should fall into its rightful place".
"He might not get defeated so easily". "But m afraid of us being pretty much alive since this victory wont serve us much, the death is inevitable".
Veer Singh with an astounding look said, "Amar Singh, I am not used to such devastation and I would like you not to soil your hands in such horrendous sin".
Amar Singh said with a broad smile, "The brave rajputs never soil their hands with such loathsome act and it was feasible only in case of Mughals".
Veer Singh looked perturbed. Amar Singh continued to add, "The gossips were doing rounds of emperor wanting to secretly murder both the shehzaadas (princes) and to make prince Nazim the future emperor of Hindustan".
Veer Singh dint respond may be he was trying to absorb the alarming news which had struck him like a dagger in his chest.
Both walked silently until they were at the main gate. All of a sudden,a dreadful sound of grieving resonated in the air. Both stood still as the ghastly sound had captivated their senses.
The moon light was fading away indicating that the dawn was approaching but the hallucinating sounds of lamentation had no source of its origin.
After few mins, the lamenting sounds had vanished into thin air, and there was absolute pin drop silence giving a sense of calmness and horrifying aspect.
Veer Singh asked with an analyzing look, "What is the matter?"
Amar Singh looked dazed and replied, "It seems the source of sound had come from within the fort".
Veer Singh's heart ached with the thought that love of his life might have been in immense danger but the doubt had vanished into the air when he realized that the yelling sound came from outside and not from his lover's abode.
Uncertainty hanged around like Damocles sword, Veer felt dejected and grumbled, "It feels like things are slipping out from my hands and I have absolutely no scheme to pursue".
Amar Singh calmly said "I have done a thorough inspection of the emperor's camp".
Veer Singh was perplexed with this news, cutting Amar Singh's words he said, "What are you saying?" "Its risky you could have landed up in a soup".
Amar Singh was calm enough, with an affirmative tone he said, "There is nothing to worry about, everyone had been sunk in wine and pleasures of women, while their counterparts took to singing and dancing, the entire camp had seemed to turn into a harbor of decadence", none were in their senses".
"Besides, I was dressed as a rajput soldier with an artificial beard stuck on my chin running up to my chest long".
A sudden thick dust had arisen into the air which presumably seemed no less than a sandstorm that perplexed Veer Singh.
Amar Singh tried to look in all possible directions to perceive all that was transpiring before them. His face turned pale and grave when he saw umpteen cavalry of soldiers out of nowhere had started to encompass the deserted city all of a sudden.
He yelped out, "Who are they?"
Veer Singh seemed to be quiet, he smiled and said, "Even though all were engaged in pleasures of life but emperor is shrewd enough to surprise us".
A horridly looking boy with disfigured face and in tattered clothes appeared from nowhere in front of Veer Singh and Amar Singh stupefied both.
The sudden appearance of this young terrifically looking man in the middle of the deserted city and at this time of the hour had sucked their lives out of them. Both were left dumbfound for a moment.
The young man passed out a monstrous laughter whilst, handing over a letter to them who looked bewildered at him.
Amar Singh cried out, "Who are you?"
The awful looking man replied, "I am Badri" sensing the familiarity in the name and voice, both calmed down and spoke in a questioning tone, "How come Badri you are here at this time of the hour?"
The young Badri looked stiffened, with a hesitant tone he replied, "Shehzaade (Prince), we have no time to waste as the entire town has been fenced by the emperor's army and none of us can dream of absconding from this place".
Veer Singh looked edgy; Amar Singh who had the letter with him had by now finished reading it, a gloomy look took over his facial features.
Badri murmured something into his ear to which Amar Singh yelped, "Leave at once, and waste no sec here".
Veer Singh questioned, "What about you?" Amar Singh answered in a satisfying tone, "I have got my horse here I will mingle with the other rajput soldiers and so there is no chance of me getting into trouble".
"But you shouldn't linger here; every sec is worth a life, even though it comes with its own set of dangers".
Veer Singh retaliated, "I cant allow you to venture into the troubles".
Amar Singh frowned, "Don't kill the time if you keep loitering here we may both bolt into troubles".
After heading a few more steps, Veer Singh stopped in his way and said, "I have to save jodha even if it meant risking my own life, but how do I protect her?"
Before Amar Singh could come up with assured reply, Badri interrupted saying, "There is no need to worry about whence m alive". Veer Singh looked skeptical at this statement.
Amar Singh assuredly spoke, "Worry not my friend, our friends are there to take care and protect jodha, you leave at once before troubles seek you".
Badri gave an affirmative look and said, Shehzaade, "There are many who will happily rest their lives in order to safeguard jodha's life, If the mughals enter this deserted city they will bear the consequences of it".
By this time the mughals had already reached the vicinity of the haunted city and there loud cries echoed in the air.
Time was precious, Amar Singh shoved Veer Singh and ran as fast as he could and he approached his horse where he had secretly hidden near the woods.
Veer Singh too dint dawdle around much, he took to the ruins of the city to cover himself from the eyes of the enemies, whilst Badri stood there for sometime but as the sound became louder and louder he too concealed himself towards the ruins.
