The top 5-6 stars in last decades are having connections and backing be it SRK(YRF and Karan Johar backing) Amir and Salman, ajay, Saif (bollywood family connections). Only Akshay Kumar and Ranveer singh stand out in this list of bollywood actors who have no connections and are super success. There too if you see all these bollywood stars use controversy to grab limelight and promote movies like a love affair, break up, star wars etc on their own without any controversy none would have survived so long. Last year ranveer singh was talking of his struggle to break in and he talked of what he faced casting couches, tanding outside studios for hours without meetings, getting humiliated in producers office etc its no easy task one has to give up self respect to get job in bollywood and serial industry.
CERTAINLY SUCCEEDING IN BOLLYWOOD IS A STRUGGLE. FOR EVERY ONE GUY WHO BECOMES A SHAHRUKH, THERE ARE AT LEAST FEW THOUSANDS WHO ASPIRE AND BEGIN THE STRUGGLE, BUT DONT SUCCEED. AND YES THE INDUSTRY SEEMS TO FAVOR THOSE WHO HAVE A CONTACT WITHIN THE INDUSTRY. BUT RAJAT IS NOT NEW. HE IS A POPULAR FACE ON TV. THAT COULD BE AN ADVANTAGE TOO
WOULD LIKE TO MENTION SUSHANT SINGH RAJPUT HERE. HE WENT FROM THE TV INDUSTRY AND IS DOING REASONABLY WELL IN FILMS AS THE MAIN LEAD. SOME LIKE RONIT ROY AND RAM KAPOOR TOO HAVE MADE THEIR MARK, WHILE OTHERS LIKE RAJEEV KHANDELWAL HAVE DISAPPEARED AFTER A FILM OR TWO
IF RAJAT WISHES TO DO FILMS, HE CERTAINLY HAS THE TALENT TO TAKE ON FILMS. HOPE HE TRIES REALLY HARD AND THAT LADY LUCK SUPPORTS HIM TOO
YOU SPOKE ABOUT AKSHAY - HE HAD A LONG PERIOD OF STRUGGLE. HE HAD TO WORK IN A LOT OF B AND C GRADE FILMS. BUT HE STUCK ON AND LOOK WHERE HE IS NOW. HIS IS ONE OF THE MOST INSPIRING STORIES IN THE FILM WORLD, I FEEL
The most important thing is to handle media how to remain in limelight at any given times by planting gossips, having affairs at right time(when movie releases), having fights at right time(amir saying srk is my dog sitting at my leg during film promotion etc) so you see bollywood is made only on PR.
Indeed i am sure many flop movies are hyped as hits and average movies as super hits by the friendly media of these stars. That is how star system works in india. That is because of lack of good content, in indian movies and TVs you hardly have content good enough to get a C or B- forget a A+ grade(exam wise). So movies are hyped based on controversy. Indeed in last decade you can count no of good movies a Munna bhai, 3 idiots, Kahani etc handful of movies and hardly any TV show worth watching for content. So its all based on star system and crazy fan following be it TV or films. The movies that are successful after 2000s hardly anyone of next generation will watch aas content is pathetic and so are TV shows too.
I AGREE THAT AVERAGE MOVIES GET HYPED AND BECOME HITS. A HUGE CASE IN POINT IS MAIN HOON NA. THE FILM HAD HARDLY ANY CONTENT OR PERFORMANCE, BUT THE SHEER BOMBARDMENT BY THE MARKETING TEAM ENSURED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF SUCCESS. OF COURSE, SRK ADDED TO IT
BUT IF YOU SEE, THESE DAYS THERE IS A LOT OF EXPERIMENTAL CINEMA TOO THAT GETS NOTICED AND ACCLAIMED. ACTORS LIKE IRRFAN, NAWAZUDDIN, MASAAN GUY, RAJAT KAPOOR, ETC ARE GETTING GOOD ROLES TOO. EVEN THOUGH SUCH FILMS HAVE A SMALLER MARKETING BUDGET, THEY TOO MANAGE TO BE SEEN BY THE RIGHT AUDIENCES
WHAT RAJAT REALLY NEEDS IS A GOOD DIRECTOR WHO BELIEVES IN HIM, AND I AM SURE THE REST WIL FAL I TO PLACE
So in such a situation if an introvert, reticent, controversy non loving actor like Rajat cannot succeed in bollywood. Also bollywood has many ugly things like casting couch, camps etc that not all actors will be able to compromise on their values to succeed. Hence rajat succeeding in bollywood is a bg doubt for me. In TV industry atleast these things are there but not so widely visible and necessary.
WELL RAJAT CERTAINLY GOT INTO TV AND IS ABLE TO SHOWCASE HIS TALENTS QUITE WELL. HENCE I THINK, SHOULD HE REALLY AND DESPERATELY WANT TO, HE COULD GET INTO FILMS TOO. I JUST WISH THAT ONCE HE REALLY MAKES UP HIS MIND, HE GETS A GOOD AGENT TO REPRESENT HIM AND LOBBY FOR HIM. THAT IS KNOWN TO DO WONDERS IN FILMS.
OF COURSE EVERYONE HAS TO STRUGGLE AND RAJAT WILL TOO, BUT BEING A KNOWN FACE FROM THE TV INDUSTRY, HE CAN PERHAPS AVOID STUFF LIKE THE CASTING COUCH ETC
How can an actor like rajat ensure a flow of work - may be like SRK open his own production house that is only option to get work for next few decades in TV. Otherwise tough to survive beyond a decade here for even most talented person in hero role.
But i agree although i do not know what is rajat controversy with press interview, PR is necessary. You do not want to reply just smile and say next question please or like Delhi is very hot despite rainy season just deflect journalist attention to other things. Journalist is human , her boss expect him to get juicy gossip or she will not get job next year of promotion. We must also think that they are humans require some nice way of taking him. Now we all get bank calls or sales person at door step do we get rude at them at every day nooo rarely, same thing for journalists.
I COMPLETELY AGREE THAT ANY ACTOR NEEDS GOOD PR SKILLS TO SURVIVE. GOOD PR WILL NOT MAKE HIM ABLE TO DEAL WITH THE MEDIA EFFECTIVELY, IT WILL ALSO GO A LONG WAY IN ENSURING A FLOW OF WORK FOR HIM, AND, WHO KNOWS, HE MIGHT EVEN BAG SOME GOOD ROLES IN TV INDUSTRY OR FILMS
THESE DAYS EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE A FUNCTION OF WHO YOU KNOW OR WHO THE PERSON YOU KNOW KNOWS.
