Jalaluddin Muhammad, the Shahenshah of the Mughal Sulatanat, the King of Kings, the greatest Badshah of India, was practising swordfight with much aggression. Because he was very very angry. He wasn't angry because he lost some battle or someone disobeyed him. No ... The reason was far worse. The reason was his humiliation. That insolent little girl. How dare she! She insulted the King of Mughal in front of a whole market. Of course she didn't know that he was the Shahenshah. But Jalal gladly forgot that one little detail in the face of his humiliation.
Jalal had left Agra to go to Amer to marry the Rajvanshi princess Jodha. Oh that beauty. She was a miracle of Khuda. Beautiful and arrogant. So arrogant that she insulted him, Jalaluddin Muhammad, in her arrogance. Jalal wanted to destroy that aroogance. And he got the chance to do just that when the King of Amer came to seek protection. Jalal wanted Jodha's hand in marriage in exchange of the protection. Being helpless, King Bharmal had to agree. Now, he could watch as the arrogance of that princess breaks bit by bit.
But that was not important right now. Important was that he was insulted again by what seemed like another Rajvanshi. Jalal had stopped outside Malwa on the way to Amer. Adham Khan had battled against Malwa few weeks ago but had come back defeated. The Rajputs had driven them away by sheer willpower and fight. But Jalal was not one of those to accept defeat. This was just a fallback ... Nothing else. One has to go two steps back to jump four steps ahead. This was that kind of situation.
Jalal had gone to Malwa in disguise the same he had done in Amer to see the condition there. He was just passing through the market when he smashed into someone. She looked like a common girl of merely 16 summers of age. She seemed to be a growing girl, in the stage between teenage and womanhood. Girls were quite ravishing in that stage, as their body would have recently changed. And this girl was quite beautiful. Somewhat like Jodha. So much so that he just kept looking on when she screamed at him irritatedly.
But all thought of beauty flew out of his mind someone pushed him from behind. He lost balance and fell upon that girl. Then it happened. Turning around, the girl pushed and slapped him. Then she walked away with her friend without a backward glance, not noticing his changed demeanor which was that of an angry predator.
He stormed into his camp which was a few kilometres behind the bazaar and ordered some of his soldiers to attack the bazaar. He had expected the soldiers to come back with the loot and some girls ... The way they do every time. Among those girls, he would take the one who insulted him and destroy her. All it would need was one night. They should be arriving soon, he thought as he practised some complicated moves.
"Your Majesty, the soldiers have come back." Jalal stopped his practice hearing Shariffuddin's voice. But his voice had disappointment and a hint of fear instead of the excitement he had expected.
"What happened?" Jalal growled. Shariffuddin didn't answer. "Answer me, Shariffuddin." He roared.
Shariffuddin hesitated only a moment before answering. "Your Majesty, the soldiers attacked the bazaar as per your orders. But soon the Rajput soldiers came and fought them away. Some have been injured and one of them was unconscious." Shariffudin's voice was quivering seeing the increasing anger of the King.
Jalal was beyond angry. First, a commoner insulted him and now his soldiers have been driven away. And what was that? One of his soldiers was unconscious. Who would be strong enough to make a Mughal soldier unconscious? He had to find out.
"I want to see that unconscious soldier." He told Shariffuddin.
Shariffuddin nodded and led the way. He took Jalal towards one of the healing tents. Jalal went inside and saw the healer tending to an unconscious soldier, Rehman, if he was correct. He asked the healer about the soldier's injuries. The healer said that the soldier had a wrist sprain, a cracked jaw and an injury in his private part. Jalal didn't know whether to laugh or get angry.
He turned towards his Subedar. "Who did this?"
Shariffuddin looked startled at being asked this question, but he answered, "I do not know, Your Majesty."
"I do." The soldier's voice came from the bed. "It was the lost princess of Malwa."
"The lost princess?!" Jalal said to no one in particular. He had heard about that lost princess. 16 years ago, when the princess of Malwa was born, some fortune teller had come to see her. Rumor has it that the fortune telling woman said something to the King that had him anxious for the well being of his daughter. He became worried that his daughter wouldn't survive here. And suddenly one day, the princess disappeared. Even the King of Malwa didn't know where. He had been looking for his daughter since.
"Yes, the lost princess." The soldier's voice broke his musings. "They had found the princess of Malwa today at the bazaar. I heard them saying, 'the lost princess has come back'. "
"But how do they know its the princess. She must have grown up much by now. How did they recognize her?" Jalal asked the first question that can to his mind.
"Her birthmark, Your Majesty." The soldier answered. "She had a lightning shaped birthmark on her right hand. The princess of Malwa had one, I guess. That's how they recognized her."
Lightning shaped, Jalal thought. The girl ... That girl in the market who insulted him. She had a lightning shaped mark on her right hand. He had seen it when she raised her hand. Jalal asked one last question.
"And this princess is the one who did this to you?" He asked.
The soldier nodded, "Yes, Your Majesty. She seemed to be trained." Jalal could see that the soldier wasn't trying to explain himself, rather he was stating a fact. Jalal nodded.
So, the lost princess of Malwa was the girl who had insulted him AND knocked his soldier unconscious. Interesting. First the princess of Amer. Now, the princess of Malwa. Two Rajvanshi princess who insulted him. And he was going to make them pay for it.
Right now, he was going to do what he was set out to do. He was going to marry Jodha, the princess of Amer. Then after taking her to Agra and completing the necessary rituals, he would go for the princess of Malwa.
Two fiery Rajvanshi princesses. Oh, to break them and step on their arrogance! What a feeling it would be! And the bowed heads of the shamefaced Rajputs in front of him would just be the cherry on the top. A sinister smile formed on his face
"Shariffuddin, send a message to Atgah Sahab to ready the best of our troops. We will attack Malwa after the marriage rituals are completed." He ordered.
Shariffuddin nodded and bowed his head, "As you wish, Your Majesty."
At that time, Jalal was planning on revenge and victory over Rajputs. But who could win against Fate? And his Fate had planned something else entirely for him. From that moment, the fates of Jalaluddin Muhammad, Jodha Bai and Sameera Roy had intertwined.
