Sandhya dear,

Can you tell me if you can get these tailams in Chennai? I have very good friends in the city who travel often to Pune, and they can bring them to me. As I said, it is unfortunate, but I cannot pack up and go to Kottakkal.

Not at all Lavanya. We all form opinions from our life experiences.

My grandmother too suffered from rheumatism. No treatment gave her relief from the pain that eventually got unbearable except forthe Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala ones. But since she chose it quite late, it could offer her only relief but not cure. Though walking was an effort for her later on, the relief from pain made her, her old cheerful self. She was treated with Pinda thailam (for severe pain relief) and Kottamchukkadi tailam (for maintenance and occasional pain) and some others too that i am not too sure of.

In allopathy the painkillers do more damage than the disease itself. These ayurvedic external oils do no harm. So they could be given a try to see if they work for us.

It is a pity that we have forgotten our old habit of Saturday Complete Oil Bath. It keeps our joints, skin, muscles and general health in good condition.

AUNTY

SORRY FOR THIS OFF TOPIC NOTE

MY FATHER SUFFERED RHEUMATISM FOR CLOSE TO THIRTY FIVE YEARS. IN THIS TIME PERIOD HE TRIED ALL SORTS OF TREATMENT - ALLOPATHIC, STEROIDS, GOLD INJECTIONS, HOMEOPATHIC, AYURVEDIC, YUNAANI - ALL KINDS OF HAKIMS AND BABAS

HE ALSO WENT TO KOTTAKKAL TO THE ARYA VAIDYA SALA TWICE, EACH TIME FOR A MONTH AND A HALF

MY FATHER'S OPINION AT THE END OF IT WAS THAT THE KOTTAKKAL TREATMENT IS PROBABLY MORE BENEFICIAL FOR MUSCULAR ISSUES, AND NOT THAT MUCH FOR RHEUMATISM

HE EVENTUALLY SETTLED WITH A DOCTOR FROM AIIMS, NEW DELHI, WHO WAS AN EXPERT IN THE FIELD. BUT, UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS A BIT LATE IN THE DAY. HE DID MANAGE THE PAIN QUITE WELL AND THE DISEASE WAS IN REMISSION.

BUT LOT OF MEDICATIONS LEFT HUGE SIDE EFFECTS ON HIS LUNGS AND OVERALL WELLNESS. SO AT THE END OF IT, WHEN HE PASSED AWAY, IT WAS CAUSED, NOT BECAUSE OF RA, BUT LUNG FAILURE - INTERSTITIAL LUNG DISEASE, WHICH WAS CAUSED BY RA MEDICATION

YES RHEUMATISM HAS NO CURE. TREATMENT FOR IT, AT BEST, ADVOCATES PAIN MANAGEMENT. OVER THESE YEARS I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO ARE ABLE TO MANAGE QUITE WELL

SO WHATEVER COURSE OF ACTION YOU TAKE, PLEASE TAKE SECOND AND THIRD OPINIONS AND ONLY THEN GO AHEAD WITH IT.

SANDHYA, PLS DO NOT TAKE IT OTHERWISE. SINCE I HAVE LIVED QUITE CLOSELY WITH THIS DISEASE, I AM JUST SHARING MY OPINION

QUOTE=sashashyam]It is so sweet of you, my pet, but I cannot leave Pune and my mother, nor can I take her to Kerala with me, she is too fragile. But if I can get these ayurvedic oils from there, I will use them regularly. I already have a bottle of Ksheerabala tailam from there. So do let me know.

I am very glad that I can make understood for myself some moments.
For me the harem existed in the mind together with the fairy tales "1001 nights". Somehow it did not reflect. On the issue of polygamy, I did not care public opinion, I trying to try "on myself". How would I have reacted to be a wife number ..., or my daughter - his wife number...?
For girl age Jodha, even if its in the culture is polygamy, she probably wouldn't want to be in a queue of wives.
I was born and raised in the southern republic, and we have sooo loveful men. BUT! The basic principle: one woman-wife - does not know about the other. Still, the own woman is the wife, and the other - the mistress, but if they have children do not throw, as a rule. (I find it very sad). I am not to condemn and not interfere in other people's foundations. In no event do not want anyone to hurt or offend. I really want to - understand and because so interested in your opinion. Here and Mainawati I see differently. It seemed to me that his look in the face, looking under the veil, it is not "decent". He realizes that Jodha's mother is not happy . And in his performance of the rituals I was seen also some schadenfreude. Western view? 😳
And if before I sympathized with the women, having looked as Jalal enters in his harem, I realized that mens it is also necessary to regret. Here is a husband returned from a military campaign, tired ... but he literally torn to pieces and is many conflicts in this the henhouse. 😃
We have a wonderful film comedy, "Prisoner of the Caucasus". They sing a song, "If I were a sultan, I would have 3 wives ..." After weighing all the (+) and (-), he comes to a decision: "If I were a sultan - would be unmarried! "
I think these relationships are scratching their psyche and first wife and others. And again in the film "JA", how many the evils were made by the offended Rukia.
I also really like the scene where Jalal stops a glance to Mahlanga. And here is another sad moment of loneliness Jalal. His family used him, trying to make him a puppet and denying him the right to personal feelings.
Really looking forward to your descriptions of the wedding and I wish you health!

Hi Zhanna,

I don't think anyone here feels that you are condemning anything. Most of us cannot relate to polygamy either. I honestly don't know how those ladies lived that way. waiting, hoping to they catch their husband's eye one day. I am sure it created extreme insecurity and jealousy and drove many of them to do crazy things. It just does not seem normal to me, this polygamy.😕

I totally sympathise with Jodha. Here she was going to be the first bride of a Rajput prince and now, like you said she has to wait in a line with hundreds by getting married to Jalal.😭

I felt the same way about the first Jalal-Maina interaction but I watched it a few more times and realised that he actually has a very tender, understanding, thoughtful look on his face. it is like they are having their own non verbal private conversation and he is reassuring her that everything is going to be fine. And if you notice, towards the end she is feeling a lot better about him. I actually liked that scene a lot.

I know your post was for Donjas and Aunty but I have a habit of jumping in with my opinions sometimes.😉

Hi, Devki! I am very interested in your opinion too. Actually, the most interesting thing, when I'm trying to understand the other view. It expands my horizons and does world volume. That written Donjas, Shyamala Di and you, gave me the opportunity to look at this scene on another. And I think that maybe you're right, and I perceived it more prejudiced, as well as Jodha . 😊
