It was supposed to have been filmed for many years. Many of the actors and actress look different in various scenes...young in some and old in others.
I think that the main reason of the failure was that the silver screen presentation couldn't sustain the suspense. Ranga Rao's stout build revealed his dual identity as Sivanadiyar and the Pallava King. The thrill of the book is lost in the movie.

But as far as the choice of actors is concerned i don't think that the filmy lot will fit. Perhaps Vyjayantimala and Padmini in their young days would have suited the two full moons to perfection . But certainly not the present lot. Not one of them can speak Tamil the way it must be spoken. An entirely fresh lot should be okay. Like Aham Sharma for Karn.😊 And RT for Jalal.😳. And such lot who can pronounce Tamil well.
I heard that they are going to condense it into a 4 hr play in theatre. Wonder what the outcome will be.😲 The 'Vadavooran' play staged a couple of years ago was too good. And the actor who played the role of Manickavasagar was simply perfect. Such impeccable Tamil, such a presence and such good acting. Aunty would have been super impressed. Hope the PS play matches VV.
My dream Vanathi, Nandini, Kundavai and Poonguzhali are gone. I would have preferred 80s heroines to do this. Let's see. It is sad that no TV PH in Tamil is touching our vast literature,even byond Kalki.
