Sharing links of two posts which were made recently..They are related to Akbar and our show somehow.. These are two posts, depicting divergent thoughts on same person, existing at the same place. :)

1.

Here is a Post about ancestors of Akbar.

One wonders what it was that propelled a young, 'illiterate' boy to all-time greatness. Was it him, his associates, his family background, or destiny that made Akbar truly great? It was perhaps a happy admixture of all these. This article looks at one of these factors - the family background of Akbar right from the time when his ancestors ruled the steppes of Central Asia.

This post attempts to ONLY look at ONE aspect of their personality. Their religious proclivity. This post is meant to look at their 'other side' which is not known to 'many of us'.

They were, almost all of them, free-thinking. They switched their religious beliefs to suit their political goals. They sought the company of learned men. They visited shrines and discussed the doctrines of various faiths with religious authorities. It appears ironic that these were the same folks, some of whom who also had disregard for human life.

Akbar incredibly reflects many of these traits, which is what intrigues one in the first place. This article SIMPLY points out the traits that are common to Akbar and his ancestors.

Did Akbar inherit eclectism from his Ancestors ?

2.

This is another post.
Here, posted some really interesting and VERY VERY LESSER known details about the lives of Jaimal and Patta.

This post contains information about their EARLY ancestors, and their successors and many of the battles they fought..It also contains scans of portraits of Jaimal and Patta..

Link:
JaiMal and Patta : 3rd Siege of Chittor - With Portraits

If you all remember, Jaimal was shown in our show for a short time before the leap when they had shown NR of Chittor war...But, in reality he was an important figure, because he also had fought previously also, against Mughals/Sharif-ud-din..Even this was shown in passing reference in the show in initial episodes, after marriage of JJ...

BTW, going by the state of affairs in our show these days, i won't be surprised if they plan to show Haldighati also. :-P

Akbar was a complex person - this everyone knows. If we look in isolation at the events in his life, we wonder why he behaved in very different ways under different circumstances.

For instance, he didn't show emotion at the Chittor massacre or jauhar. But he was clearly moved by the jauhar at Ranthambor.

It is therefore necessary to look at this person in totality. Right from the qualities he inherited from his forebears - whether their mysticism / eclecticism or their blood-thirsty nature, to the time he started advocating sul-i-kul.

The Chittor tragedy happened when he was still in his intolerant phase under the influence of his sadr. But a decade later, he was out of the influence of religious authorities of all faiths. He listened to all but took his own decisions and didn't let them sway him with their flowery turn of phrase.

Do read both articles for a better understanding of Akbar's character. 😊

Rightly said Radhika,

Individual events can not be used to sum up a person's personality in totality. One needs to look at more than few actions undertaken by a person to arrive at a conclusion. Agree with your point about Chittor vs. Ranthambor.. Thanks for the post on ancestors of Akbar, i found it quite "balanced" !

The intertwined history of Mughals and Rajputs never ceases to amaze. Those who have been to Agra Fort will remember entering the fort through the Amar Singh Gate.

Amar Singh was the exiled son of the King of Marwar. Just how and why the southern gate of Agra Fort, interestingly initially called Akbar Gate, is today known as Amar Singh Gate can be read at this link:
