no dear... u r not wrong...still in many parts of India , this mangni is done only btw parents like they exchange some token jewellery and give the promise abt the relationship being fixed... no ring exchange or no meeting btw the couple even...

& as far as i know in islam or in rajputs there is nothing like tht. in both the cultures especially at tht time, the pair cant even see each other before marriage.

i don't know abt Islam... but here in Maharashtra, specially in rural areas or even in some castes in cities also, the Rishta is fixed by elders and there is direct marriage... no engagement and all
