I was lured into watching the last couple of episodes by the forum's reactions - and I did!😳
If we kept aside the debacle that was dished out post the demise of Hassan and Hussain - a needless MAJOR fissure in an otherwise serial-smooth relationship between husband and wife [especially a relationship that claims itself as 'epic'], the chotu generation is not as bad as I thought they would be. At least, not yet! [Since I have no idea about this Murad angle, I am not commenting on it. However, all I can see for now is that Jodha looks at a VERY happy place now]

My take on the chotu generation
1) The boys - After having gotten over the initial 'systemic shock' of watching Rajat calling someone three years his junior as his 'beta', I have taken a liking to the Rahim dude. Not for his looks. Not for his talent either. Unlike 'Jalal' he doesn't own the screen in both these arenas. What I like this character for is his temperament. A better version of Maan Singh - if one may call him that!
However; Salim, Haider & Rahim - take a back seat. Cos none of them can match the acting prowess of little Murad! That chotu seizes the trophy where acting is concerned. The only one amongst the lot who has looks, screen presence (such cute curly locks) and acting capabilities - the perfect takkar to RT!

2) Anarkali - Neither too good, nor too bad a choice. She will have to grow on the audience since she definitely does NOT have the killer seductive looks that folklore describes her as having!πŸ˜•

My take on our leads
3) Jalal as a father - Authority Authority Authority!
Having seen his obsession for kids. Having witnessed his soft corner whenever something shorter than three feet walked by, I am surprised to see this sudden twist in the tale. I.e. a stern & firm father who knows what he is doing. The promos advertised him as a dad who would spoil his children rotten!
However, what I saw over the past two episodes reflected his character as one following the text-book code for 'How an Emperor should play the role of a dad!'

Furthermore; I finally felt like I was watching a serial based on aristocracy. I finally felt like I was watching a serial about an emperor - be it the stern frowns with which Jalal questions Salim at the dinner table. The authority with which he removes his sword to interrogate his son. The decisive manner with which he meted the pigeon verdict to that little bunch. The judicious brotherly-manner with which he advices Rahim. The confident tone with which he dispels Jodha's motherly woes. The list goes on!

However, that does not mean his attraction/respect for Jodha has dwindled - he still does find the time to visit her and apply a kala teeka or grab her arm from behind as she walks away in a playful huff! He still has the humour to tease her about her being 'itti choti si' when he saw her first (what a lie!πŸ˜†) and laugh at her pout after he does so. All this, while he still seems to have the time for a tula-daan and tending to the Gujarat rebels.

Nevertheless, let's see for how long this 'avtaar' of his would continue (wondering if this is because they want him to reflect the stern Prithvi Raj Kapoor from MEZ!) However, so far so good!

4) Jodha as a mother - All that a queen mother would be!
Much as she is enjoying the 'Sheiku baba' banter with her husband, she seems to know how and where to draw the line when playing audience to the Emperor's decree in public. Much as she loves to cradle her son at night, she knows how to tell him off for fighting with his brothers or stealing someone's ghunghroo!
She seems like one who commands respect and gives respect where necessary. [This aspect of Jalal and Jodha was missing in the earlier tracks]
Besides, her make up has also improved. And Paridhi seems to be donning a genuine smile (and many earnest laughs) whenever speaking of Salim - like she's truly enjoying it all.
She looks like a flower that's blossomed again after the painful tracks that'd passed by.

[And what was that Jodha - warning your son that he would like girls when he grew older!!! The years have made you naughty, haven't they?]
These smaller nuances are making the past couple of episodes a visual treat.

To add to it, Ruqaiyya and other negative forces staying toned down has also helped -both, on the eyes and the ears!

The jugalbandi

Once we set aside the handsomeness of this chap (I am sure RT must be secretly laughing at the creatives - You make me a dad within 8 months, I'll go fitter/trimmer & handsomer just to prove you lot as fools!πŸ˜†) - so yeah *concentrate lashy* let me try and delve on the scene itself!

Having been a faithful follower of RT's sword fighting for the past eight years, his skills and expressions today were 'expected' - i.e. on par with many-a-good-sword fighting scene of his I've seen in the past. What really impressed me was the novel platform provided to him to display his skills. What really impressed me was the amount of thought that went into the scene. It wasn't cinematic brilliance (as Sandhya said). The setting was anything BUT Mughal-E-Azam grandiose style. However, it was a scene that must have required quite a bit of advanced planning [meaning the creatives have thought of all this for quite a while now]
It was something different (something at least I haven't come across in Tellywood/Bollywood before!)

And the only reason this was possible was because we had an able swordsman to be able to match 6 (non-exceptional) kathak dancers!

Jalal-ud-din-Mohammed knew what he was doing here. He wasn't practising. He wasn't fighting. He wasn't defending himself. He was out to display an art form. He set out to prove something and he did. That is, the echoes of a pair of swords' blades against 6 shields could match the echoes of 6 pairs of ghunghroos - if done rightly!

Let's see if Salim grasped what his father was setting out to prove.
Anyway, I did! πŸ˜ƒ

For THIS scene, good job creatives and good job RT!

I am done with this story as jalal has betrayed Jodha brutally. He has made relation with Salima when he blamed Jodha for death of kids and continued relation after Birth of Salim. So Murad is younger than salim. First betrayed love and blamed Jodha, let ruks go Scot free and lied to Jodha. Sorry there is no love story and in not seeing this epic crap they are fishing in the name of love story

Writer-e-khaas I am so excited you wrote a take 😳

Agreed on your assessment of the sons... Murad is super cute

I am def surprised by the choice

My take on our leads

Yes, we all expected him to spoil Salim but it is nothing but that

Oh yes ... it was very good

Yes, real emperor comes to make way for lover son

Well said , very well said πŸ‘

Yes, I noticed the genuine smile as well

It was so beautifully planned and depicted .. you are right, the kathak dancers quality etc. left much to be desired but the concept was so beautifully shown

Let's see if Salim grasped what his father was setting out to prove.

Absolutely! It is so nice to read about the serial through your eyes today.

Did the show , show yet how / when he made relations with Salima? Is there no chance they gave Murad to Salima to raise?

After long time divi did her take 5 ,and what a surprise shards did her too now this is what I call Diwali bonanza πŸ‘.
Spot on with every thing but you forgot about new added muche of maan Singh ,it looks so funny yaar ,poor kid ,one is dad of 2 kids ,calling rahim beta where dad is more hot than beta πŸ˜‰πŸ˜³
The whole Sward display was treat to eye ,I wasn't even looking at those dancers ,I hope salim says a one more time dad ,I need time to study .
But whole concept was well thought process and rajat made it grand and royal .

Indeed Shraddha's take is a bonanza!

Yes, the concept of the sword fight was amazing ... Particularly because of how Jalal had described it in the past 😳
