Beautifully written post . I am a huge fan of your writing Mansi . Your in-depth description of each scene involves perfect use of imagery , it is almost like watching the characters perform while reading your analysis .
Yesterday's episode , left me with mixed feelings .
Positive ones , at the manner in which Jodha handled an emotionally broken Jalal , whose world had come crashing down , due to the spate of horrific incidents in his life . I loved the scene when she assured the vicious Badi Ammi that none of her curses would have any effect on her Shehenshah . (Initially I was taken aback at the scene , wondering why on earth did Jodha present herself in front of this mean , wicked , woman ) . However the more I thought about it , that scene made sense , it was a calm "Durga " ( Jodha ) in human form , warning the evil ( Mahamanga ) that she ( Shakti ) is there and always will be , to protect her husband . At this time , I'm also recalling the prophecies of the parrot ( during the Benazir fiasco ) that Jodha is going to be Jalal's protector and savior from difficulties and negativity all his life . She will be his "ardhangini " in the truest sense .
I loved Paridhi's portrayal of the understanding , caring , strong wife . She was a mother , mentor , soother , wife and Jalal's STRENGTH , blended into one . She was like a ray of sunshine in Jalal's darkest moment . Paridhi was OUTSTANDING yesterday . Rajat as the powerful yet helpless , lonely emperor struggling to fight his emotional demons was SUPERB as usual .
Now , for the part that not only upset me but several other forum members too ... . You would have guessed the scene that disgusted us ... yes , the cursing one . After watching the wicked Mahamanga yell at and curse Jodha and Jalal , I was immensely upset . I do not wish to recall that horrible scene . I wish that I had never allowed it to override my sensibilities and upset me in the first place . I blame Ashwini Kalsekar's awesome acting , her excellent dialogue delivery for the same .
It is my sincere belief that " cursing " as such is wrong . Whether it was an integral part of our ancient epics or several other ones that followed , or our social setup , it is wrong and unacceptable to me . We all have different takes on this issue . Nobody has to agree with mine .
Not just me , all of us have tolerated a lot of disgusting , unbelievable , negative drama that was incorporated into the story line ( Courtesy : Naatakiya Roopantar ) . The swearing and cursing from a "mother-like" figure was the "icing on the cake " . In my opinion , this scene was completely unnecessary in taking the story forward .To give this negativity , an elaborate screen time and glorify it , was even worse . Some of us may ignore such scenes and walk away . However there are hundreds more who still blindly believe and emulate the wrongs that they see and hear . Such is the power of the visual medium and the spoken word . Be it good or bad .
