Hello everyone, I do not post regularly in this forum but after reading about the protests and watching the serial personally, I feel injustice has been done to the historic characters. For example, Ruqaiyya is being shown in a bad light as a jealous and attention seeking woman. They have portrayed her as a queen who is against Jodha. I am not sure if she was like this in her own life. She might be a tolerant and benevolent woman as well.
The other time they showed Shivani's escapade with her lover. I am again unsure of its authenticity.
I know the serial has been made by putting in fictional stories from time to time. But I think the makers have taken liberty a bit far away by molding the characters according to their own whims. It cannot be forgotten that even though the show is fictional, the characters were real people living in a bygone era. Creative freedom doesn't mean you can exploit history as you wish.
Before anybody starts hating me, I would like to say that I am a big fan of this show and I watch it everyday religiously. I only wish the makers would have kept the basic character sketch and story line more closer to reality then turning it into pure fiction. I mean just imagine if Mahatma Gandhi's or Subhash Chandra Bose's or any other great men/women's lives were retold in a manner which is not true, it is bound to offend different sects of people.
Show makers should not forget that the show is watched by the people of India which mostly involves uneducated or ignorant people and to some extent kids. They will watch the show with the mindset that this an important piece of history and they should know as much as they can. They wouldn't understand the nuances or glitches in the story and hence this program will make a lasting impression in their minds. This is definitely not in the favor of people.
As much as I love the show, I do not want it to shut down and I do agree that the people who are protesting should be more tolerant and humble. But you cannot blame them in entirety because they may feel connected to the historical characters in questions and hence have every right to raise a finger. Think closely and imagine someone manipulating the story of your grandfather or ancestors to suit their business.
I wish the producers had made the show using fictional characters completely with probably the same or slightly different story-line. That way the makers and the viewers would have been more satisfied and there would have been room for absolute creative freedom. If the other shows on television work purely on the basis of good cast, story and other factors; I see no reason why Jodha Akbar wouldn't have worked as a fictional story of a king and his many queens. The present scenario has limited options when it comes to providing TRP garnering and melodramatic twists and turns which work best for the Indian television. It is rather a deterrent in the progress of the show.
Please do no get me wrong but I hope if not all but at least some of you will agree with me. I do not hold anything against the show or its makers or the artists. I absolutely love the show from the core of my heart and have its best interests in mind. I truly hope all the issues will be solved soon and the show will continue to entertain us in the near future.
