The City of Ranthambhor - An Aerial View

The lofty palaces of Rajasthan, often sited on fortified hills, invited renderings with daring perspectives. Depicting what the artist of this spectacularly large work could only imagine"an aerial view. 😲

The river-moated hill location of Ranthambhor Fort and town could only have been conceived in this manner by an artist familiar with the conceptual language of mapmaking; the landscape appears contoured, but on closer examination, it is in fact tiered.

The artist combined traditional Indian renderings of hillocks, rocky outcrops, and trees to a way of seeing that must have come from cartography. While many of the features are rendered in plan, the townscapes are seen in elevation, creating a multifarious vision that is new in Indian painting.

Painting Style - Jaipur(Old name - Amer) School of Art
Year - 1810 A.D.
Medium - Opaque Watercolor and Ink on Paper

Yes, the divine vision about HK/Jodha, happened before their marriage. 😊
They have shown this in the serial. See the Episode aired on 30th July 2013. The last 3 minutes of that episode, when Jalal is at Ajmer Sharif.

This was also shown in the movie Jodha-Akbar. (Atleast they followed this event from history.😉)

These visions were NOT "natkiya rupantar".
These have been recorded in Abu'l Fazl's chronicles.

It was destined that, their marriage was going to be a MAJOR event in Mughal History.

From your description, i had thought Jalal gets a glimpse of Jodha as his wife - that's why couldn't relate with that scene mentally - 😊

the pir doesn't explicitly say anything about Jodha or marriage and Jalal is also quiet when the pir says that he is going to take a decision that will change his life and the course of Mughal history. Only by associating this scene with the marriage proposal in the earlier part of the episode, can we infer that the pir was referring to his marriage with Jodha. Being a tubelight myself, I didn't get the connection between that scene and your "divine vision" statement 😆 Thanks for providing the episode date too!

Now when I saw the scene again, I noticed both Jalal and Jodha were "close" to God at the same time - being soulmates, they seem to think about the same things at the same time, even if their opinions vary. The pir was telling Jalal everything happens with God's will and Jodha was saying the same to Kanha. And God's will brought them together then when they hated each other. And God's will is again going to bring them together now when they are so much in love.

Aanchal,

Yes, they have shown the priest . But the crux is ONLY this much, that the vision was TRUE. And, as per Abu'l Fazl's chronicles, it was Akbar. The priest may be the one, who gave an indication. I wrote what accounts say. 😊 Fazl credited Akbar to be the one with Divine Vision, and inherited it from Hamida Bano, and she inherited this from her great grandfather who was a Great Seer. Akbar is said to be the LAST of the Mughals, to inherit this vision. Rest is just the portrayal.

May be when the marriage proposal came, subconsciously Jalal got an indication that he should accept this proposal, that it was destined for them to get married. (When he was earlier escaping from Amer with an injured Abdul, Abdul had asked him why he hadn't kidnapped Jodha. Jalal said then that she would come herself to him. God had given him this thought and God made the proposal come to Jalal and then made him accept it willingly.) Later the pir's words may have crystallized the belief in his mind that he was going on the right path (by marrying Jodha). It was so well ordained that he should set off on this new journey from the holy Ajmer Sharif!

Read this chapter in Akbarnama - but found the language too "ornate" - I wonder how you manage to sift thru such language to get the main point the author is trying to make. 👏 It's just like many episodes of JA - one has to cut thru a lot of fillers and ads to understand what really happened in an episode 😆 Admire all of your team much more now!

Good post!

Where is Bhagwan Das in the show? Has he gone back to Amer? Where is Man Singh? These were very illustrious men but they have been reduced to caricatures in the show. Man Singh seems to have no relation with Jodha. No matter how much she suffers, he just doesn't seem to care. Lot of people had anticipated he would clear the mess about Sujamal's identity. But he's nowhere to be seen even after his bua has left the palace. Wonder if the CVs will ever show them the way they actually were. 😕

Wonder how cartographers and artists made maps and aerial views before the advent of aeroplanes and satellites? This picture is stunning. Brilliant imagination (that too in 3D) and excellent execution 👏

Thanks for sharing!
