More tempting for the likes of us, Cuddly Bear, but decidedly not for the multitudes who bring in the ad revenues.

And even for me, 500 episodes of Akbar the Great being just that would be too much. These days, I cannot even stand 12 episodes on Henry VIII, and any version of his life is always ovewhelmingly about women. Though he never had any love woes. He moved on to a new woman only after disposing of the old one!

In any case, no one stays the same, with or without a romantic relationship, though Jodha does plug at it to an irritating extent with her Salvation Army lectures. yes.

Now to see how much she keeps that up when she has fallen in love with him. I noted on Friday that in contrast with the last session she had with Jalal in the garden, when she was holding forth on the beneficial properties of moonlight before moving on to more improving topics, apparently for the whole night, this time she was almost entirely silent and spent the time looking at Jalal when he was not looking at her, and at times even when he was.

It looked promising for the next week. She might still be too busy niharofying her patidev to think up more bhashans! She had already started doing that in the precap.

Reading about the latest episode in this thread, history is being revised again I see. We all have different views on that.

There's this hysterical, not historical at all show called Reign (set in 1557) on an obscure American cable channel. Where Mary Queen of Scots has the dishy Dauphin Francis and a fictional step brother Sebastian (Bash) vying for her attentions, while she's busy matching wits with Catherine de Medici and even has King Henry doing her bidding. Incidentally, Shyamala Akka, you described Maham Anga as a Catherine and that is exactly how she is played - with the sometimes comedic overtones as well! On one level it works for me because Mary has not a lot of time to sort out love woes when everybody is busy poisoning everybody else. Just staying alive is a full time job. But on most levels it's rubbish. 😆 So I watch it sparingly.

It seems to be the in thing for tv types to say, 'This isn't the History Channel you know, we have creative license.' But I've yet to see a historic city being tampered with in any fictional show... not to say it hasn't happened.

Main point being, Ekta's Jodha Akbar is actually quite good when we consider what's happening with historical fiction worldwide.

Dear, take it with a pinch of salt... I used to get worked up about it... not any more... Initially, I even got worked up when I thought they were distorting MA's name by getting her involved in the MC kaand...only later did I actually read that texts implied she might have had a hand in orchestrating something along those lines in the harem...
so, watch it all scepticism - if its true, well and good..if not, drama! When it gets too much to take.. take a break (like I did during the Benazir kand😆)

I still feel the Fatehpur Sikri angle is not as bad as the Tasneem fiasco or as the Benazir track...which downplayed Jalal quite a bit...😊

Also, remember Akbar was a great man because of a cumulative set of achievements that spanned across his life time... like many of the other National leaders and historical figures - he has committed many mistakes- but, he emerged from those to go on and achieve what many others couldn't ...thus, the prefix 'Great'...however, fact remains that he was no superman - he did have his vices, his favourites and his weaknesses too...also, it has been noted in many places that he did change in his later years - as when compared to the person he was in his twenties...

The basic crux of the fact remains that Akbar was no fanatic (though he came from a religiously rigid era) - he was a man ahead of his times and very broad minded - thankfully, the serial is not/has not played with that aspect of him yet...and hope that remains the case! 👏

lashy my dear🤗..so badly need your positive comments!..i agree to what you said, but please call zee to remind that we do not want them to play and change history..creative liberty should also have its limits..after all its the audience that make or break them, therefore our opinion should matter!..if i call i know i might loose my temper😆

Don't worry sara. Soon we will have it that Akbar himself had only the terrace for himself and everything else in the sultanate belonged to jodha

My dear,

What a lovely word, fida! With resonances that go well beyond the commonplace.Thank you!

Do you mean, when you say the last point, the Moment of the Day in the main post , which is what I thought it to be, or the last para here?

Sandhya, my dear, I am beginning to get quite worried about you. You are beginning to sound very fretful, and that is hardly good for you. And don't give me that guff about just joking. It is clearly beginning to get under your skin. .At this rate, you will end up with ulcers! Jodha Akbar is not worth it, my child!

Just chill, and enjoy the scenes with Rajat , and now Paridhi as well. I don't care if Jalal looks like a choodiwala or a doodhwala (I think the beard and the thicker moustache make his face look broader and chubbier), for he will still act superlatively, and we will have a succession of charming, domesticated scenes. It is time the poor boy gets away for a while from these screechy females in the harem, and has some corny fun. The precap was very cute - especially the way Jodha now looks sideways at her patidev, and the new montage is gorgeous.

I liked the earlier scene in Jodha's rooms, and Jalal's face when Jodha says that she needs to go as there has to be someone to look after him, was priceless. Pleased, amused and questioning. And when she was roping in Hamida to get Jalal to fall in line, he was again watching her very curiously with narrowed eyes, like a scientist looking at a specimen under the microscope.

Paridhi too was excellent in her recover when he asks her why she is so eager to go. And the wide-eyed candour with which she argues that she should be taken along was charming.

What I could not understand was Moti standing there like a log of wood and not moving away after greeting the Shahenshah. In the Jalal-Jodha exchange, she is there standing dead centre between them and a little further into the room, completely spoiling the visuals! The woman gets on my nerves with her flat, slightly nasal tone of voice, and very limited acting abilities.

She seems to be ignorant of court etiquette as well. When Jalal says he will take Jodha out to the garden, Moti actually says Theek hai, as if she was giving him permission to do so, instead of Jee, Shahenshah. I wonder if she would have said any such thing to Bharmal in Amer. It was ridiculous.

Similarly, when Ruqaiya tells her to inform Jodha later that she had come to visit her, Moti does not say Jee, Begum Sahiba, but merely nods her head. It is the writer's fault.

Incidentally, for those of you who might be interested, I learnt even at school that Akbar built Fatehpur Sikri to commemorate his victories in Rajasthan, where he conquered Chittore and Ranthambore in 1568. The Buland Darwaza was built so grandly to mark those victories, which consolidated Akbar's hold over Rajasthan, and also the successful campaign in Gujarat.

I have never heard or read that it had anything to do with Jodha, except for her palace there.

This is revisionist history with a vengeance! They seem to have added an extra disclaimer, though. But then, what is the daily 30 second disclamer for?

Fatehpur Sikri was not finished till the mid-1580s, and soon thereafter, the lack of water forced Akbar to move his court out of there.

I saw a complaint on another thread that the Diwan-e-Khas today did not look impressive, and that Jalal's apology did not sound as well as it should have. Probably they wanted him to go down on his knees for it! He looked and sounded very sincere and yet correct and restrained, and as for the apology, he did the same after the dature ka ark matter was solved. It was very good of him to have done it then, and it is the same now. As for the DEK, it is always of the same size and has roughly the same number of attendees.

PS: Am I the only one who feels marwari rajat looks worse than choodiwala.

I DO TOO!!!
