You have a way with words. You have the ability to portray your thoughts in a manner which is delightful to read.
I will not at all be surprised if you are some best selling author, enjoying this forum in anonymity.

You know, my dear, that is one of the most original compliments I have ever received! Thank you. I always try my best every time, but it would all come to nothing without discerning readers like you.

I do wish I was a best selling author, but alas, I am not! In fact I am a retired, 60+ Indian diplomat. You can google me, but one of my young friends in this forum dug up a 10 year old article about me from The Hindu which might interest you. It is at

http://www.hindu.com/mp/2004/03/10/stories/2004031000460100.htm,

and the photo is still a decent likeness!

Reverting to this post, it somehow took me much longer to write and edit it than I usually take, It must be that it is very hard to distil magic into mere words.

PS: I keep adding you to my buddy list for my PMs, but your id seems to vanish each time. It is a puzzle.

Thank you, my dear Mandy. I knew you would love this one.

Do you know, it took me more than 5 hours to write and then edit? I usually take only 3. The first hour was spent trying to decide how to approach the subject, till I hit upon the idea of abandoning the ad seriatim method and starting with the angoori bagh part. Even so, it needed far more polishing up that I usually have to do.

It is tough to distil magic into words. I had told the kids on my thread, who were clamoring for this one, that I would not put it out unless I was satisfied with it, and I was not sure of that till it was all done. Phew!

My dear Divya,

I am very pleased that you loved this one. Would you believe that it took me 5 hours + to write and then edit, as against my usual 3 hours? It is hard to distil magic into words.

I used unforgiveable because that is what it had seemed like to Jalal once. It would have needed a strong apology or a heartfelt plea and explanation from Jodha to heal that wound, whereas what she does the next morning is to accuse him of SKLL. That was perhaps the unkindest cut of all.

Now, so much more has happened between them, that he seems prepared to write it off as feminine caprice. It would of course be the best it if that matter is clarified, but it now seems to me that their relationship will move ahead even if that does not happen any time soon.

Beautiful analysis Aunty- loved the title 😊 It was great to re-live the scenes through your eyes.

I loved your point around how Jodha now wants to be first in Jalal's eyes - wasn't Jodha such a surprise on Friday? After Ruqs hint to stay away from Jalal, I thought she would be aloof but she was more possessive than usual.

What I loved the best was this Jodi asked each other questions that they knew the answers to in their heart but wanted the other to admit it.

One question, quoting from your post- why do you say it is an unforgiveable insult? At some point he should be able to forgive her, right? I should hope so. I rather think that his meaning of what he said is given she pushed him out he could come back in only if she pulled him- as she did for the walk. And I truly hope that Jodha understands she must make the next move and I think she is already starting to, insisting that they go on the trip together.

Quote I am referring to:

But it is clear from the context - of his complaints about the caprices of his begums, and the impossibility of making out what they really mean from what they say- that he has now come round to classifying what he once saw as an unforgiveable insult under the head of feminine nakhras.

Shyamala my dear, Friday night I was in Love with Love!!! And I have always said that television is a writers medium yet last week I realised that an actor like Rajat can make ordinary writers seem like Gods!!!

When was the last time you watched dappled sunlight dancing on the surface of running water? Or the iridescent colours that appear and disappear on a butterfly's wings as the light catches them?

To these words of yours Shyamala, I will add this song from the Sound of Music - duly butchered taking absolute, complete and total creative liberty and dedicating it to Friday's Jodha and Jalal -

How do you solve a problem like Jodha - Jalal?
How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?
How do you find a word that means Jodha - Jalal?
A flibbertijibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown!

Many a thing you know you'd like to tell them
Many a thing they ought to understand
But how do you make them stay
And listen to all you say
How do you keep a wave upon the sand

Oh, how do you solve a problem like Jodha - Jalal?
How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?

When I'm with them I'm confused
Out of focus and bemused
And I never know exactly where I am
Unpredictable as weather
they're as flighty as a feather
She's / He's a darling! She's / He's a demon! She's / He's a lamb!

They'd outpester any pest
Drive a hornet from its nest
They could throw a whirling dervish out of whirl
She / He is gentle! She / He is wild!
She's / He's a riddle! She's / He's a child!
She's / He's a headache! She's / He's an angel!
She's a girl / He's a man!

How do you solve a problem like Jodha - Jalal?
How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?
How do you find a word that means Jodha - Jalal?
A flibbertijibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown!

Many a thing you know you'd like to tell them
Many a thing they ought to understand
But how do you make them stay
And listen to all you say
How do you keep a wave upon the sand

Oh, how do you solve a problem like Jodha - Jalal?
How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?
