Jodha looked restless after seeing the Benazir in her new wedding outfit. She didn't pay attention to whatever was happening around her and her eyes were never turned away from benazir's face except for a gesture to the concerned Salima Begum. She knew something grave is going to happen abut had no way to realize what it is and how Ben has planned her action to kill Jalal. Jo was confident about saving her husband from the death (Kaliyug ka Savithri, when she could do yamdhoj for her brother's safety despite the tight security of Mughal's on the river shore, how will she stay back from saving her husband) but what will she do if Ben tries to act during their lone time where Jodha will not get an entry.
Jalal looked at Jodha who was staring at Ben and thought she is feeling jealous of Ben and unhappy to lose her place to Ben. Poor guy he didn't realize that look was her concern for him and his safety. Only if he could have spent a moment (ek pal) to analyze Jodha's expression and her worried eyes, he would have stopped the fatal incident. He was happy that Jodha is jealous and thus was expecting her pearcing arrows blaming him of injustice and ask him to accept her. He never could realize that he had already pushed her out frame and her chances of staying with him are feeble. Had Jodha saw his eyes in those moments, she would have realized his expectant gesture to spell the bean and stay with him for ever after. But God had different plans to bring these stubborn together in a classic way by allowing them to experience the moments of loss and it affects them in that moment when you see helplessly while the realization is sinking about your impending loss.
The moment had come when the Maulvi's call the bride and groom to see each other's faces through the water / oil and there Jalal visualizes Jodhainstead of Ben, though we cold see Ben's face as well, the prominent was Jodha's face and the earlier moments he saw her face. On the other hand Jodha was shown restless and then Maulvi's asked the couple to be to feed sweets to each other before the Nikha and one person brought a bowl of sweet kheer with 2 spoons on tray and as a practice Maham taste checked the same for possible poisoning and send it further. Here comes the crucial moment where Jalal picks the bowl and JOdha would have heaved a sigh of relief but to her greater distress he hands it over to Ben and she gracefully drank that directly from the bowl (what for the spoon kept their and how unhygienic that looked when Jalal was supposed to drink the reminder. May be Jalal was waiting for a tears & shame on Jodha's face when he gave Ben the first opportunity to drink the sweet. (may he wanted her to remember the saying that "Joota kane se pyar aur bad jaata" but Jodha was not in such a leisure mood to remember those things and her concentration was undivided to Ben's every small movement. There was one more person who was watching Ben keenly for his own benefit was Adham Khan and he praised Ben's cleverness when she started mixing/folding the remaining sweet by using the spoon and then was about to hand it to Jalal with that gloating smile and was interrupted by the Hurricane " Yes, you read it right, even before someone can visualize what is happening, Jodha was rushed to the screen and stopped Jalal and in the process all were dazed at Jodha's act and Ben was shocked (shocked may an understatement). Jalal in his astonishment screams that Jodha will not be pardoned for this childish act (may be still he felt that she is pure jealous of Ben, so she is stopping him from eating her joota) and got the best jolt of his life when she replied, she don't need it. She further silenced him by saying, she had crossed the threshold limit of telling / explaining him about the danger to his life and now she will show him what the danger is. She further told him "You were told me that you don't want to see me even if I am dying right, so be it be and even I doesn't want to see my husband Die out of Poisoning. I may not open my eyes after this and if so, I take leave of you and here I go" She threw the spoon away and drank the contaminated sweet directly from the bowl and swayed and fell into her husband's hands. She tried hard to tell him that she doesn't regret her death or decision and is happy that she fulfilled her duty. Yes, she fulfilled the duty of a wife whereas Jalal failed as an husband. But she didn't do any heroic work but she was an ordinary wife who was desperate to save her husband's life and that desperation pushed her to that stage. The time froze there ...
Jalal was bewildered, he was astonished at the turn of events and nothing was registering in his mind. The ever teasing, smiling Jodha was unconscious. The eyes that were either spitting fire or spreading happiness were closed and floral breath was getting uneven and he could not think anything beyond that. He could not feel anything and he was NUMB towards what had happened to Jodha. His mind was not allowing him to think otherwise about Jodha and to overcome that jolt he talked non sense about Killing Ben or sparing Ben. He was not sure of the extent of damage the poison cause or might cause to Jodha but he had no strength to think the outcome, so he felt he along with the Hakim can take care of Jodha whereas Ruqaiya was held hostage and he knew very well the consequences of the fate of the hostage. Hence he barked at Ben to leave Ruqaiya and in turn he will spare her life only to be showed the Mirror by Ben about him and his Khas people.
Ben had her mirthless laugh saying, she would not have accepted the job of a Vishkanya, had she worried about her life. She clearly told everyone that she came to Agra with the purpose of killing jalal and would have succeeded long back had it not been for Jodha who posed obstacles in her progress. And today that ideate lady went a step ahead and sacrificed her life to save such an husband who never cared for her. Ruqaiya wanted to show Jodha low and to do that she grabbed the opportunity to get Ben married to Jalal and the great Wazir, Maham lend hands to her in the process of demeaning Jodha. How irenic it was, the one who really knew about me and wanted to save her husband was berated while the one who was planned the assassin was given the highest respect and facilities. Only then did Adham Khan felt the need to kill Ben, and he could visualize his death by Jalal otherwise. The time froze as Maham started visualizing her failures in recognizing Ben and the impact of her failure. Jalal was dazed, he could not think what he should do or what he should think. Then the elderly Atgah Khan asks him to take care of Jodha while he will go behind Ben to bring back Ruqaiya safely.
Jalal enters into the room where Jodha was lying lifelessly and the face started losing colour, rather turning Bluish due to poison effect. He could not think of that something bad might happen to Jodha, so tries to divert his mind and screams for Abul Mali's head and only to realize that he has already flew out of the net. He was drawn to the ground reality of his kingdom or ruling where intelligence / security and defense was utter failure and the silent Maham understood the reality. She have to act now if she has to regain his confidence and also has to act fast to save Jodha, otherwise Jalal will not stay as Jalal and everyone will have to go through the brunt of the aftermath. She can't stay aloof when the queen is dying (wheter she likes her or not) and she would have already gauged who was responsible for the security break. She will act fast and she might compel Zakira to spill the bean about the antidote in the final / crucial moment and there by showing her loyalty to Sultnate.
This is my personal view on Jalal's silence or lack of emotions:
It was not only Jalal, we have seen all were silent and every one was praying for Jodha' s safety silently. Yes, Jalal was shown stone faced except while barking some orders to his soldiers. Whether he was an emperor or a shehenshah, he is human first. It was human tendency to AVOID the bitter taste and when you are presented with numerous dishes and the main course is bitter one, you are tend to taste the main course in the last, and you will prolong that by engaging yourself with the side dishes. Or when you are given the NEEM & the karela to eat, you are tend to eat the karela first because, for one thing it is less bitter and comparatively easy to digest. Secondly you can train your taste buds to accept taste of neem with lesser aversion.
When we are given the 2 grave news like 2 of our friend have met with accidents and one is fatal while the other one is severely injured and might end up with few broken bones, we tend to call on the second one first and check on the condition, than the first one. We will enquire about the second person then rush to check on the first one, we will not gather the courage to cll on them to check how is the condition as we are not ready to accept the brutal reality of losing someone. We would take it directly but will never show the courage to hear it from others.
