Well, Vicki, I am not going to say Welcome back! and that I was missing you a lot , for both those are givens! But here is a nice, big hug! 🤗I was touched that even when you has stopped writing here, you still made time to read some of my posts.
Now for Jalal and Jodha. Why is she a Persian doormat, by the way😉? Will an ordinary doormat not do?
My dear Vicki, I absolve you of one-sided bashing of Jalal and of issuing a blanket clean chit to Jodha in the bad old days, for you were never anything but fair. But even you made a lot of excuses for a
chudail, gussail shehzaadi at the time when Jodha was being consistently and appallingly rude to Jalal, often, as at the Meena Bazaar, in public. You felt this sort of treatment of the man was par for the course when he had made the mistake of falling for an headstrong, obstinate and proud Amazon.
As for the majority of the forum, for all that they fulminate about Ekta's scripts, the fact is that they love the Ekta-heroine-who-can-never-be-wrong in Jodha, and they sided with her unreservedly, no matter how unjustifiably and nastily she behaved with her supposed
pati. So now, when the boot is on the other foot, I am not surprised that Jalal is being tarred and feathered across the forum, or at least so I am told, for I rarely read much here. But not you too, Vicki!
The fact is that Jodha has a lot to learn, in the first place how it feels to have someone you have come to care for mock you and ignore you. That is what she did in the old days, after all, as I hope you remember. If he came into her rooms, she used to look at him as if he was something the cat had brought in, and invariably asked him, in a most off putting tone,
Aap yahan? If he came to thank her for something late at night, she used to look as if he was going to jump on her and ravish her.
Still, the triple dyed idiot that Jalal was, he put up with all this day after day, and continued to praise her
hunars, real or not, to the skies. No one then berated him for making a doormat - Afghan, Persian, whatever - of himself. None that I can remember, but myself of course.
For Jodha, all that pampering ended abruptly with The Shove and her morning after accusation of SKLL (
stree ke liye lalasa), and then with the entry of Benazir. Nonetheless, Jalal's pathetic weakness for the woman who snubbed him and pushed him away was there, as strong as ever, and it showed at every opportunity.
Even though the special treatment was at an end, Jodha was no doormat, no thank you!. During the Shivani wedding fiasco, Jodha was still on her high horse, sidelining the Shahenshah and riding high on the approval of her cheerleaders Nos. 1&2, her Ammijaan and her devar,
It was Shivani's elopement that brought her down with a crash - she actually started calling herself a
Mughal khandaan ki Begum - plus the first hand evidence that Benazir was out to murder Jalal.
Which brought her the (still strongly resisted) realisation that she could not bear it if Jalal died. So now we have this Savitri-cum-Durga manquee- cum-what now:? Meera rebooted with the
vish ka pyala? (A very silly twist, by the way, for Benazir is no suicide candidate. She intends to survive and queen it over the empire at the side of Abul Mali, not realising that once he is on the throne, she will be the first person he will have bumped off. How can she do that if Jalal is poisoned openly in a wedding ceremony?)
Jalal is an idiot now for a different reason from earlier - for not having the GJ (
ghrinit jantu) properly investigated and spied on. Anyone from Abul Mali's harem should have been an a priori suspect, and surely it is better to be safe than dead? I do not know what, if anything he has been doing, and whether his constant jibes at Jodha for being jealous of Benazir are just a put on or not, but on the surface at least, he cuts a pretty sorry figure for a Shahenshah.
The only spark of hope re: his grey cells being still alive was the assurance he gives his Ammijaan last night, in that unexpectedly emotional scene between them, that he knows how to face dangers and survive. Maybe he
does know what Benazir is up to, but even so, Jalal looks anything but decisive.
As for Jodha, she is now smarting under a volley of insults and cold shoulders and persistent disbelief in her fervent assertions re: the GJ's guilt. Even her Ammijaan is apparently not around to lend her a shoulder to weep on. But what goes around comes around, does it not? All of Jodha's chickens have come to roost, that too simultaneously, and it seems, as Meghana put it, to be now payback time for her.
It is another matter that I do not see Jodha being trashed by "everyone", only by the caricature of Ruqaiya Sultan Begum and at times by Mahaam, from whom that is hardly new for Jodha.
As for me, I loved Jodha in last few episodes, especially the one I called
Samhaar. For her now all else pales besides the paramount need to save Jalal's life, even if it has to be in spite of Jalal. Faced with such an undertaking, nothing else should matter to her, and I find it highly praiseworthy that nothing does.
How on earth do you expect her to storm out of Agra in a huff because the ugly hoojra changing business, and leave the husband whose life is at stake to the mercy of the vishkanya? You cannot be serious. Vicki! No, Jodha is neither a Persian doormat nor a laundryman's donkey, thank you. She is now a prize specimen of Rajput female tenacity and grit and singlemindedness. She has to save Jalal from the
ghrinit jantu, and thought the fates have been tripping her up repeatedly, save him she will. And in order to be able to do that, she will swallow anything that has to be swallowed, her ego in the first place, and continue to stand at her post, like (though it is not a felicitous simile) the boy on the burning deck.
I am disappointed that you do not see this admirable aspect of the Jodha you have always loved more than I did. And now, it seems I admire her and love her more than you do.

Love enhances who you are , it gives you moments of vulnerability and mellows you for the better. It doesn't turn you into a laundryman's donkey.
I understand that Jodha is vulnerable to Jalaal because she has fallen in love with him. But as far as i recall when Jodha was at the worst insanity of her 'ghrinaa' mode ( the sexual abuse accusation, the suicide attempt etc.) , Jalaal , even though knowing that she is his weakness, he handled and tackled her like a strict guardian and refused to put up with a lot of nonsense of hers. Meaning? Love opens new apertures to your personality - its doesn't give you a personality disorder.
Jodha seems to have become a Persian doormat. Anyone and everyone can just pass by and abuse her- and all she can manage is " Kya Mughalon mein apnee beghumon ko aise hi neecha dikhaate hainn?" ... What? Come again! ...Babe! You are being insulted because you are ALLOWING that insult to happen. You knew it two weeks ago that Jalaal will not believe you , you should have enough common sense by now that you will always be hated upon by most of Agra, so why do you play the dumb doll? Where is your self-respect? Your dignity? Instead of filling tanks of aansu , return to your chambers, disconnect yourself and wait for the chance to prove your point. Relationships require a shield of pride as well so that the other person knows that love includes respect as well. Where's that shield? Where is your Rajput blood?
Today was the limit ki limit. Ruqqu asking Jodha to vacate her khwaabgaah?... What the beep! Jodha is a CHIEF QUEEN, not a random beghum, and Ruqqu has no right to even raise her voice at Jodha , which happens in this show all the time. Jodha should have told her to get lost and spoken to Jalaal. And if Jalaal would have sided with Ruqqu, Jodha should have left Agra. If you treat yourself like an animal, everyone will.
I can excuse Jodha's vulnerability to Jalaal , for once, because love does make it impossible to whack the daylights out of your lover- human nature . But getting trashed by everyone? Jodha , you are a CHIEF QUEEN and no queen gets treated like that .
BTW, is Jalaal's dialogue writer on a vacation? Two weeks gone by and he still has not reached the next level of brainstorming after " aapko jalan ho rahee hai?"... The Jalaal we know would have cornered and confronted Jodha by now and gotten a 'hum aapse prem karte hainn' out of her.
What the beep has happened to my JJ?
