I've heard conflicting things such as it wasn't a new religion, just a philosophy of thought or that it was a new religion but was never quite taken up.

I have years of Indian history to catch up on. I can answer anything about the American Civil War but ask me about Indian history and I'll fall flat! 😆

can anyone give a short detail on jizya tax implementation,amount etc from reliable sources not wikipedia thanks & how we can differensiate the pilgrimage tax with jizya tax

its for knowledge purpose only not for any religious discussion please

Pilgrimage Tax
there is no concept of pilgrimage tax in Islam so no need of discussion
it is invented & imposed by muslim rulers in those states where non muslims are in majority to fill there treasury

jizya tax
is applied on non muslim adult military age mens only
children,women,old,mad,handicaps,chronically ill-man even if he is rich, servants or wageworkers,religious people i-e monks,priest,pandits are excused to pay jizya
Ahkm ahl al-dhimma by Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah Vol 1,pp 8 ,15
Kitab al-Umm by Abu Abdillah Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi pp.172-1

jizya can not be imposed/applied
if non muslim mens voluntry join military or pariticipate in wars
when the muslim state is unable to protect the non muslims

Amount of jizya
there is not any fix amount but according to verified Hadith non muslims mens should not to be over burdened with Jizyah
Saheeh Bukhari Volume 2, Book 23, Number 475
