Before I write anything, let me add a disclaimer first
This is just my opinion and may be fictional... Please do not sue me... Blah blah blah

As a history buff, I have low tolerance historical characters massacred like this for trp reasons. Whether it is Bharmal or Mahamanga or our beloved JA-JO... Just like you, I was curious why this blatant mis-Portrayl of history is being tolerated by groups who were so active a few months ago. These people faced police lathicharge and arrests because they did not want the history that involves their ancestors to be misrepresented. One of their biggest questions was... Akbar never had a wife called Jodha Bai...so stop using that name. At that time, I thought it was trivial...these guys are probably budding politicians and are looking for camera time.
But now, based on what they have shown in the last few episodes, I have to admit that the storyline is clearly offensive for certain sections of our society...why... Because it never happened...It is all made up to create a juicy drama...Even the 21 st century Rajputs will not tolerate what Shivani did... No one will call this ' eternal love'...and now they show that Bharmal was aware of all that...omg...can't blame Rajputs if their blood is boiling...and, this is a big insult to the mighty mughals as well..they were clearly taken for a ride. Now we know that no historical data supports this storyline and it is clearly a product of imagination of JA team ... What can be done to stop it ?...This is a sensitive issue...cant ignore the religion and caste part of it...unless you are blessed with rare capability of ignoring an elephant in a room...when it comes to history being mis portrayed to suit financial aspirations of some people, no religious group or clan is tolerant... And in my opinion, to some extent, they are justified...I don't want to get into quoting examples of how Jews, Muslims or Christians respond when their history is presented in a distorted way. Forget that, ask Ekta kapoor to make a fictional show on India' s most powerful political family ( i'm not going to name them) and add false but juicy tracks to the story...I'd love to see how much she can get away with.
I was actually expecting a lot of wrath from the Rajput community for showing a Rajput girl in this manner( if you ever lived in rural or small town India, you would know how humiliating it is for a family if their daughter runs away on the day of her wedding ...and Papaji knew but still kept the would be in laws in dark)...I was curious...why no retaliation from people???? Called up a few people in India...some of them were a part of initial protests.
Ok, since I didn't record the conversations, therefore I'd like to shield myself with the disclaimer first... If you dont like it...feel free to not believe it...don't sue me. I am making no 'aitehaasic daava' here... I was told that the most influential leader(s) of the initial protests reached a kind of ' agreement' with the makers of the show. A name change was promised but never happened...what did happen was a lot of bank and mall visits by some people...in absence of an well known organized leadership, people are a little disheartened and struggling to find out an effective way to protest against the current storyline which according to them, humiliates their ancestors. I think that so far they have no cohesive plan that can get media attention.. They are sulking at this blatant misportrayl but still trying to figure out what to do that will be effective and stop this rich and very well connected producer who manages to 'influence' people who raise objections against the show from changing history into a cartoon fairy tale . I didn't have any suggestions for them right now. I'll work on it.
To me, misportrayl of Mahamanga's character is just as unacceptable as Jalal's or Jodha's. My nephews who are 13 and 9 watch some of these historical shows and believe every word of it. None of us has the time or patience to sit down with them everyday and explain the discrepancies . What disturbs me more is not just the historical aspect of this mess but also the corruption part.
A historian made a mistake more than a 100 yrs ago and we are stuck with name Jodha for Akbar's wife... In another 100 yrs, people will actually believe that: Shivani ran away, all Akbar did in his initial years was play harem politics, Mahamanga' s date of death is incorrect..she lived much longer working as a 007, Rukkiya was an out and out vamp. Jalal was plain and simple lucky and should not be given any credit as a emperor, warrior or an administrator... Oh, how could I forget this one...Maharana Pratap had just one set of clothes...green, Jalal's favorite color.

I take my hat out and bow to you... I've said this numerous times before too...had this been a story on any other leader, I doubt everyone would have stayed so quiet...I agree with fictionalizing and adding masala to the 'romanticism' between Jalal and HK - in a way, you're still spreading a form of positive spirit there.

However, I disagree with playing around with the basic characterization of the leads and supporting casts in this manner - makes no sense whatsoever!

Like you, I'm appalled by the nonsensical Ruqaiyya Sultan Begum being shown to us so far, diappointed with the utterly haremized Jalal-ud-din Muhammed, or even with the over-the-top arrogant/prejudiced Hira Kunwari!

and now lets add a whole load of other Ameris and Mughals to the list too...

Ladies
Absolutely agree about distorting Historical characters beyond recognition.
I hated Shivani's love saga for the same reason and today with things complicating further with the Ameri gang standing in shame, why is Ekta playing with fire?
What was the need for this track?
The show is barely 6 months old and the creative team that has supposedly done research for 1 1/2 years have nothing better to show?
For the first time since starting to see this serial in August, I've stayed away from watching for 3 consecutive episodes. A big feat indeed!
Every track since October is crap. In the process every single person's characterization is slaughtered.

Infact, it looks like Ekta is very confidently playing with fire...however, for some reason, i feel she knows how to play her cards well...today, i got a glimpse into how she views all this and what a shrewd businesswoman she is...I was impressed. One of the people I spoke with today is the president of Sri Rajput Karni Sena, Rajasthan . This is the main group that was on the forefront of protests a few months ago . I'd like to share some relevant points of our conversation
1. He stressed on protesting in a non violent way. Otherwise, no matter how justified their demands are, they come across as the 'bad guys'. I was glad to hear that. Maybe, they should get a few tips from Anna Hazare.
2. EK was agreeable to make changes only when they threatened to prevent the release of her movie ' once upon a time...' in Rajasthan unless their concerns about JA are addressed. That is when she seemed to be willing to negotiate. So, the financial factor is the most important part here. When is her next movie going to be released? ... That is the time to firmly tell her... Do not play with our history.
3. I could detect some disappointment as far their their own leader( who was representing the protestors and talking to EK around that time) was concerned. He also mentioned that unlike a movie, it is more difficult to control what people choose to watch on TV... They seem to have realized that EK can show anything but as long as people continue to watch it( for its entertainment quotient) , they can't really do much. Infact, sometimes the protests raise the trps even more.
I could understand their frustration of not being able to do much to prevent someone from showing their clan in a poor light.
I did try and convey the important fact that this is not just about a clan but about Indian history as well...
Bottom line...
JA has become a guilty pleasure to a lot of us... We disagree and complain but can't stop watching it... And trust me, Ekta understands that very well. Hats off to her.
My last hope... The courts... They have pleasantly surprised us with some recent decisions on social matters... This issue certainly falls under preservation of history and culture...feel free to show this crap in your Saas Bahu serials. Leave history alone!!!!

Di,

Ur post is nicely written. The epi was fine as well. BOTH LEADS PLAYED FINE.

But i feel EK is entering the tiger's den. She has already played a lot by making shivani elope.

As you also, rightly pointed out. Now, she has EVEN raised questions on the loyalties of Ameri clan.
Don't know why, but this may create new trouble. 😕 putting Bharmal in jail...?? Was that required.? 😕

In the beginning i thought the protesters were just doing this to grab some attention, but i have to agree with them on some level. I was up all for MUZ and Akbar love story. I think there is nothing wrong with the title. I just up all for the hate love story, but right now the direction show has been take with this current track, and some of the characterization being distorted to the point where they are made looked like fool. I don't agree with this approach. Shivani eloping , and Bharmal showing cheating Jalal was not needed.

I think people in the forum are once again jumping the gun. We should have learned by now. I will not at all be surprised if in the coming one or two episodes a totally logical and heart rending explanation of why the Ameris did what they did is shown.
Let's list the number of times we have made aspersions on the characters and story on the basis of one episode- the fort episode in Amer when everyone was blaming Jalal, the elopement situation when everyone was expecting the worst for Jodha.

The Creatives like to surprise and they will never paint the good guys as bad over more than one episode.
