In theatre, a farce is a comedy that aims at entertaining the audience through situations that are highly exaggerated, extravagant, and thus improbable. - Exactly what we saw in the first part yesterday!!!
Farces are often highly incomprehensible plot-wise (due to the large number of plot twists and random events that occur), but viewers are encouraged not to try to follow the plot in order to avoid becoming confused and overwhelmed. - So please do not try to make sense of the nonsense that is being shown!!!
Farce is also characterized by physical humour, the use of deliberate absurdity or nonsense, and broadly stylized performances. - As was seen from Benny baby, sipahi and MH portrayals!!!
That said - why a Victorian Farce???
Becoz Victorian Farces according to various critics, presented versions of tangled love intrigues amongst upper class characters common in 18th century - Sounds familiar??!!!
Another interesting aspect of the Victorian Farce comes from the french influence - Sex, in and out of marriage, became the primary subject of farce, and 'bedroom farce' grew to be synonymous with "Farce" - Again does this too sound familiar?!?
Though I would like to add, Ekta Maiyya's efforts if I call them a Victorian Farce, would be an insult to the likes of Oscar Wilde and "The Importance of Being Ernest"!!!
