Well frnds, in my last thread 'Jodha Akbar - The premise of a Love Story' I had presented how the premise of one person changing another as the basic premise of a love story is completely flawed.
In this thread I am presenting the descent of the current show into a Victorian Farce.

Let us first look at the definition of a farce (source wikipedia) -

In theatre, a farce is a comedy that aims at entertaining the audience through situations that are highly exaggerated, extravagant, and thus improbable. - Exactly what we saw in the first part yesterday!!!

Farces are often highly incomprehensible plot-wise (due to the large number of plot twists and random events that occur), but viewers are encouraged not to try to follow the plot in order to avoid becoming confused and overwhelmed. - So please do not try to make sense of the nonsense that is being shown!!!

Farce is also characterized by physical humour, the use of deliberate absurdity or nonsense, and broadly stylized performances. - As was seen from Benny baby, sipahi and MH portrayals!!!

That said - why a Victorian Farce???

Becoz Victorian Farces according to various critics, presented versions of tangled love intrigues amongst upper class characters common in 18th century - Sounds familiar??!!!

Another interesting aspect of the Victorian Farce comes from the french influence - Sex, in and out of marriage, became the primary subject of farce, and 'bedroom farce' grew to be synonymous with "Farce" - Again does this too sound familiar?!?

Though I would like to add, Ekta Maiyya's efforts if I call them a Victorian Farce, would be an insult to the likes of Oscar Wilde and "The Importance of Being Ernest"!!!

nice posts
majority of indian soaps even historical are a farce only
expect for some old serials off DD that we can buy dvds and watch or on net like mahabharat and ramayan
After 2000s the serial stories have no relevance its all farce only
Even if first few episodes go fine remaining turn farce
Except CID, Crime Files etc rest all are what you have just told

ummm...I would just like to venture that Ekta is not trying to be funny and it isn't funny either...while OW was always trying to turn every observation into a witty remark. ...and often succeeding.

I agree @padbear. The use of the Victorian Farce term is more sarcasm and tongue in cheek and representing a high level of frustration which I think I am sharing with everyone here!!! 😛😉😆

Right. Well the Victorian 'high moral ground' and the ensuing bedlam might have some bearing on our esteemed Jodha. And that, in a curious way makes me like her. I know it's a bit frustrating at the moment, but I'm willing to just skip and wait till I get some good episodes like before. Jalal didn't look like he belonged in a farce. He was the only one who was sane I thought.

No...I meant in yesterday's episode. She may have got her hands on him in between, I wouldn't know... but this latest viewing - he looked and behaved just as a ruler might. He wasn't going to let a highly suspect HM steer his brain.

But I can see you have made up your mind, so ... hahahah. I'll leave you to it. 😳

...oh you edited. 😆😆
