My thoughts on Jodha....

The true facts about these two amazing historical figures is vaulted in their memories and in the embrace of time. History , even now, tends to be uni- perspective, many times.
If we are re-imagining and recreating these characters within our time frame, knowing that the true realities of that age will be unpalatable to us... We can give some creative license to our imagination to make her a strong, intelligent woman...after all , in that, and honestly, even in today's much male dominated world...a woman has to fight her battles to get cognizance...
Jodha would not be a wilting lily...if so, a strong character like Jalal...would not be attracted to her...she is strong, feisty, opinionated( and they don't always have to be right...on either side)...,and also have received some education... And that is what attracts her to him...she cuts him no slack...Counters him at every turn...and is not a yes woman...any wonder why he is head over heels, flip backwards, land on your head, stare at your feet in bewilderment...lattooo ,fida, fascinated ,drawn to her...she is like no other in his life...not Maham, deffi not Hamida...and not even Ruqqaiya...who are all intimidated by his position...to varying extents...
I love this depiction of her...she is flawed, is prone to proselytizing, a complete rookie in court politics and decorum, (for despite being of royal lineage...there is a vast difference between life at Amer and life in the snake lanes of Agra...),impetuous, hasty and yes..rude..at many times...but is honest to a fault, no artifice, no deceit, no games...and I think to a large extent..he recognizes this in her...her genuineness...her complete lack of emotional macquillage... And , esp after the entire suicide fiasco...he realizes ..with her that what you see is what you get...and for a person so accustomed to nuances, hidden meanings, innuendos...this must be refreshing...even if it is antipathy...
Like someone said in an earlier post...her antipathy, hatred, animosity is always and solely directed at him...was it true to that age...history does give some indication that there was not much cordiality between them...but if we try to be historically accurate...we really would not watch this serial with the joy we do now...
They will grow together, and grow to be true mates...isn't that the joy of the journey...rather than the destination itself..
Love to hear all of my fellow forum mates thoughts on this one..

Vow! I completely agree to your opinion. I love her the way she is, only few exceptions like she should not tell dasi about not taking Jalal side. Sometime she interference in political matter in front of people .
I really love the way u have explain why our ameri mirchi is different than others and what attracted Jalal.

That was an insightful post. I agree with you on most counts.

However, I believe that history bears witness to some really strong-minded women who didn't bow down to societal norms and stereotypes. They were steadfast and stubborn, women who stood tall and persevered against restrains placed in those archaic times, and equaled their male counterparts in every sphere of life. These women were brave warriors who left their homes to fight for their country, nurturing doctors who saved the lives of thousands, farmers who sowed seeds to feed their country, writers who penned great novels and manuscripts. 😊
My point is, have the minds behind the serial incorporated twists in the characters? Perhaps, in order to appeal to a larger section. Because, we draw parallels between a character that we read about or watch on the television. They are a reflection of what the audience wants to be and cannot be. Marching out in the roads with a sword isn't that great an idea! 😛 So, we satisfy ourselves by reading or by watching the television. But, in reality, the inspiration for the character or the character herself may not have been so brave, or so intelligent, or so compassionate. But, at the same time, it is a possibility that we cannot rule out completely.
The best part of the show is how they try to embody in every character all shades of personality, and not just shades of black and white. Jodha isn't a Mary Sue, and that is quite possibly why the show appeals to me so much. I do harbor high hopes for the show. 😃

@awstika...I absolutely agree...Jalal...in fact was a contemporary of one of the strongest female characters in well documented history...Elizabeth I... A female colossus in chauvinistic times...strong, self-made,intelligent and wily..., a stereotype breaker...if there ever was a bigger one...and you are absolutely right...for each documented character in history...the everyday yeowomen...who tended to house while their men went out to battle...we're all brave and courageous...but so often...thought was not encouraged...it was thought of as unwomanly...in fact..the witch hunts or inquisitions...were pretty much attempts to weed out intelligent, capable women, who lived life on their own terms..My fave character in literature is Kate...from taming of the shrew...my fave play...that and..merchant of Venice...that too coz of the wise Portia ...I love the way Dame Taylor played her 'gainst Burton's Petruchio...I always thought of her as being a woman born in the wrong time...she ultimately makes her peace with her fate..her marriage to the crass Petruchio...she is by far smarter ..Am I a sucker for a strong female character ...totally...Jodha may not have been what I imagine her to have been...and maybe I am projecting my 21 century viewpoints on her...but then ,...like u said...we cannot be sure she was not all of those things...after all...we are trying to see in in the reflection of the historical Jalal...who, if as history claims...harboured an attraction...must have been drawn ..(I hope)... not just to her looks ,but also to her inner fire...her personna...the rest, as in portrayed ...pardon the pun...is serial imagination...and left to the purvey of creatives...😊
