This was by far, the best episode of any shown till today & will serve as a true Game -Changer in the Jodha-Jalal Love Game!
It was beautiful, superlative, romantically humorous & everything in between. 😳!
Jalal was superbly patient, resigned & the best, amused in episode no 79. He sees Jodha & himself as two boat--men so to say, in the same boat & now extends her that un-spoken solidarity.
It was highly amusing to see the Jalal monolugue with the snake & Jodha's horrified expressions. She realised that she escaped a (probable) fatal bite by the snake! And that dialogue, "Tumhaare zehar se toh ek baar marte hain ,inke zehar jaise nahin. Roz jeekar, marnaa." Was done awesomely by Rajat. Bitterness & hurt & a tinge, of sadness all carpeted under a layer of hysterical humour! 👏 For the humour & the way Rajat delivered that line with those tiny micro-expressions was superb & this is why this young man will take the silver screen by storm in the coming years I am sure!
Jodha looked very apologetic & while I would've been impressed too if she gave a ready apology to Jalal for doubting him (it iswhat? The trillionth time? 🥱) I didn't hold it against her this one time. For the apology lay in her down-cast eyes & the expression on her face. I would say that Jalal noticed it too & to put her at ease, made it into a joke with one of his best till date "Agar Tum mar jaate, toh Tumhaare katal ka ilzaam Humaari Begum pe aate" and when her expression didn't change, he straight-facedly told her, "Humne Mazaak kiya Jodha Begum, Aap hass sakti hain." 😆 - His way of telling her ,"it's ok."
In time I am sure Jodha will realise these unique & thoroughly endearing ways in which Jalal demonstrates his understanding & care towards the ones he loves. He truly is an unique, and very different man., just the way Rhett Butler was & I see you love the man just as much as I do Aunty, but truly! Jalal reminds me too much of a medieval Rhett Butler- A man of humour, scorn, deep yet raw intelligence & One who was seeking an Equal. But however much he plays out the Alpha-Male, a vapid or simpering female will bore Jalal. Which is why Jodha amuses him, angers him & enamours him- He without saying a word, somewhere views her as a potential Equal Partner. And this thought delights him, and makes him un-comfortable. The challenge of seeing someone who could share your Wavelength but the desire to win & subdue them , all the same! Jalal is Rhett Butler, like Jodha can be Scarlett O'Hara!
I can't help notice that Jalal sometimes treats Jodha the way he treats Rahim 😊, not as a child, but with the same gentle, endearing soft hand. Watch the scene with Rahim on his lap & his very astute analysis of what actually bothered Rahim (his Chotti-Ammi divulging his "secret" to Jalal) and watch the snake scene again, and you'll see the similarity.
The dargah scene was done beautifully. And for just a few seconds, I thought I noticed Jodha in the act of folding her hands just before she picked them up & copied Jalal. She looked so much like an eager child ,eager to learn, eager to please; no wonder Jalal snuck a few looks in 😆. . Just as he was trying not to look away when she was dropping off another preachy gyaan lecture, though I almost saw him do a mental head-shake 😆
Neither did he look surprised to learn that it was Jodha who had saved that hiran from its death at the hands of Ruqaiyya Begum. He looked amused & a tad pleased. It's obvious that her utter dis-taste of his favourite hobby that is is, hunting, makes him feel very mischievous. The same way that he asked her to come to his Khema just as he was testing his new , advanced version of a shamsheer. He looked rather pleased with himself when he saw her cupping her hands over her ears like little children cup the ears when they hear fireworks 😆
And Aunty! This is why I love your posts. You're absolutely right & it never struck me! I didn't think Jalal taking Jodha had anything un-pleasant to it, but your reason is absolutely right! Now that he is certain that she is staying back , he sees that the only way they can have a half-way cordial relationship (which is the most he can expect from this Ameri mirchi presently) is if she starts to become familiar with him. The teasing her to talk, her replying that "Ab Aap chahte hain ki Hum Aapse baat bhi kare?" All fall in that category.
But what made me feel happy was when he delivers my most favourite line of the episode. "Toh Aapne pehle hi tae kar liya tha ki Aap Ruqaiyya Begum ko shikast dengi.".. It was a very layered dialogue not because of what it revealed. But because of what it depicted-😊 Jalal's willingness to admit out loud, not as much to Jodha, but to himself, Jodha's khaasiyat in his eyes. And not in the "she is a fascinating object" but as a prickly friend that One wants to devote time & energy to.. Not value per say, but something very similar.. If I was Jodha, would've stopped right there in my tracks!
Pre-cap: His trusty shamsheer ka Chotti bhai,😆 the khanjar, is what he will use to save himself from Mohan the tiger!
