It was a traveller's book, am forgetting the name. There is very little material on Jodha in history & also Because everyone is utterly confused as to whose wife she actually was. šŸ˜†

But that book said this & also that she was one of his favourites along with R & S.

Ruq was never beautiful. Not even attractive, she was very ordinary to look at. What she didn't have in roop, she more than made up for in dimaag. Very sharp, very intelligent & educated; no wonder Akbar took her opinion & heeded it a lot on every matter. Salima was another favourite!

And so was Jodha. He had a special kitchen made for her when he realised all the other women ate meat. It J doesn't & this might offend her cultural & religious beliefs so he had a different kitchen made for her so that her vegetarian food wouldn't be tainted by meat. Extremely thoughtful for an Emperor. 😊 If you see the kitchen it's blatantly obvious it's made for a Hindu lady.

He conversed with & took Jodha's opinions a lot, too.

Maybe Ruq was jealous of primarily the hold Jodha also had on Akbar, and this jealousy could've been stoked by her beauty & intelligence. In the world where they came from, Beauty, was a woman's Gift as much as her Weapon. 😊

šŸ˜† Akbar had three Chief wives (Empresses) and God knows how many others!!!
He definitely had around 10 children, but initially I think his kids used to not live beyond 2 yrs or something, which is why he walked barefoot from Agra to Ajmer.

She never ever hated him, but it wasn't an intense, passionate or eternal Love story the way Film loves to portray.

It was just a political marriage of convenience but which stayed that way. The only novelty was that no other Emperor had given his wife that kind of leeway culturally, the way Akbar gave her. But Akbar was very intelligent & extremely sharp, like a tack! He knew that you cannot rule over the Rajputs in every domain , if you give people freedom they're more likely to follow you than someone whose freedom has been snatched away since every human being has a great thirst for freedom in their soul. 😊

So he participated in all Hindu festivals etc since he was extremely tolerant esp for the times esp for being a Mughal Emperor. This led to a lot of censure & anger amongst the Court Maulvis & one of the reasons why Jehangir was stoked like a fire to rebel against his own beloved father.

But he was Emperor. The ridicule & anger could only expressed to a very little degree.

I read in a no of books that Akbar was short in height, very wirey by body & looked remarkably Mongolian instead of Indian. Very fair! With small, slanting eyes. Was inordinately fond of hunting (as we all know šŸ˜†) and loved Diwali. He loved to see the fireworks across the sky 😊 And used to commission the best , months before the festival. The entire fort used to be lit up & everyone participated with great fan-fare.

Jehangir actually rebelled for 2-3 reasons
It is said that he loved Anarkali very much and Nur Jahan too. But his father opposed all his love relations because they were not princess. He buried Anarkali alive in wall and Nur Jahan was married of to a man much elder than her by 20 years. This angered Jehangir and he was also tired waiting for Akbar to relinquish emperor position to him as he was already 31 years and in that time men lived only till 40-45 years(Mughal princes). Hence Jehangir was scared he would die before his father.
So he rebelled out of grief and ambition both. But Jehangir did not rebel because of his father celebrating Diwali holi because he himself was 50% Rajput Hindu. Indeed more than Akbar the religious and nobels were angry with Jehangir because he visited temples, churches, jain temples also.
Jehangir's 10 wives(he had 20 wives) were hindu princess so even after his mother's death he continued practising hindu religious procedures like havan's. On Christmas he would visit church in delhi ad even gifted a bell etc. So he would not have rebelled because his father is following hindu customs. Its because of heart break and ambition rather than religion.

Ruqaiyya they say was very intelligent, very educated & very sharp. She was the Padshaah Begum till her death even when NoorJehan was Empress. Jehangir's respected his father & loved her too much to make his beloved the chief Empress while the former was alive! So she was so till her death.

Akbar used to consult her in all matters, not only for her wisdom but because she knew Akbar like no-one else , something they show to a large extent in the serial too. Akbar in turn, loved her & then Salima the most, he could never ever refuse Ruqaiiya anything. She wanted the Rajput Princesse's Odin as her own, she got him. Khurram. They say that this princess & Ruqaiiya Begum never saw eye to eye & this act of Ruq's was also splendid revenge on her part. She was said to be psychologically quite cruel & in time grew so possessive of the little boy, that she had taken to monitoring his visits with his own mother! 😲

So Khurram never had any bonding with his birth mother & called only Ruqaiyya, "Maa".

I think many children died before birth or just after birth note worthy Hassan and Hussain twins in 1564. That is when he started going barefoot to ajmer 160 Kms from Agra every year and after 7 years Salim was born.

I read some of these stories from rivals who wrote about Akbar in those times.
Akbarnama never mentions Salim-Akbar strife etc
