Btw, as per Jahangirnama both Daniyal and Murad were sons of concubine, even though Murad is often said to be the son of Salima.

Jehangir never went to his mother's funeral! 😲

You see, the way Jehangir wrote very formally about Mariam Um Zumani i.e. Hira Kunwari, it seems that she was not his mother. The Mughal records do not show Jehangir's mother's name and it was in 18th or 19th century, the historians said that Hira was Jehangir's mother. Don't know how they concluded it but Jehangir's mother could have been any other Rajput queen. 😕

And the British ambassdor in his letter mention clearly that Salim had more Indian features not Mongolian like Akbar. Jehangir wrote formally because like I mentioned in Akbarnama Jehangir's upbringing was handed to Ruqu when he was a year or two and he lived with Ruqu not Hira Kunwari. Though Jehangir mentions in his autobiography of attending puja's in his mother's chambers(even his wives) on his birthday and festivals. The religious and orthodox nobels were miffed with him for wearing red tilak and going to court often. Hira Kunwari and he had no emotional bonding of mother-son. Just like Khurram and Jodha Bai had no emotional bond although mother-son because agian Ruqu raised him. Both Khurram and Jehangir never attended their mother's funeral but they went to visit babar's grave in kabul with Ruqaiah and also attended her funeral. So for all purpose Ruqu was their mother from childhood not their birth mothers.

Same goes for Daniyal he was taken away from his own mother and handed to Hira Kunwari- Jehangir's mother to be raised. Hence Daniyal was raised in Amer than Agra. Interesting fact is Daniyal was buried with his mother in Lahore tomb but that tomb is called "Anarkali" tomb. Hence confusion over his mother. Both Akbarnama and Jehangirnama do not mention Anarkali.
