Hi Shyamala,

It is so good to hear from you, and get a reply, because as always, your replies are thought provoking and in some way manage to change my perceptions and the way i look at the show. I feel flattered and humbled that you have included me in some of your posts, although it does feel that our outlook is quite different to that of the other. But it is always a joy to discuss.

yes, I too like my name a s a whole, but all my friends call me Shal, so sometimes i use it such. It is short and convenient. And i feel lazy sometimes.

I never realized, but the sword fight does foreshadow the relationship that they will share. It will be no holds barred and they will fight with the same passion that they will love, blocking out any and everyone around them. Le grand romance, for sure. Thats waht makes it so interesting for us, and I cant wait for them to reach that level, although that level is far off as of now. I would like them to maintain this same level of friction throughout, that even when they do fall in love, it should not cause them to lose sight of the reality and who they are. I would love a scene where Jalal and Jodha fight over a siyasati decision, even though they stand on the opposite side of the spectrum. It will be fun to watch and make their romance all the more interesting. Perfect halves of a whole, indeed.

Completely agree with you on the firmaan scene. Both Paridhi and Rajat acted very well, and here, i would like to commend the camera man too for he focused exactly the right amount of time on their faces. Any more and it would look drab, any less and it would look rushed. Kudos to him/her. It was very well shot. Jodha thought she had got Jalal, but Jalal is Jalal. He isnt going to let her off the hook so easily. That slight smirk on his face as he pulls her closer said everything. And just as soon he leaves her in a state of bewilderment. Her expression were like - 'what the hell just happened? someone smack me please!!' LoL. 👏

Looking forward to your next post.

Love,

Shalmali.

Dear Shalmali,

You have such an unusual and lovely name that I prefer it whole.

I am very pleased that you liked this post.

Yes, I can agree with all of the points below, about the firman part, and even more so with your take on the sword fight, where we are on the same page except for the context (and that is not so important). Also on difference in intent and tone between this one and the one in the film. There it was basically flirtatious and seductive, here it was fierce and no holds barred - I winced every time the sword whizzed at what looked like an inch away from one or the other - exercise in oneupmanship, as I had noted.

But it mirrored and foretold the quality of the relationship they will eventually share. It will not be sedate and affectionate. It will be turbulent and passionate, and will blot out,for each of them. everything and everyone in the whole of their world but the other, the beloved. Le grand amour, in short, that very rare bond between two persons who are both perfect halves of a whole. But that is a long way off yet, which is the real fun of this tale.

Yes, Paridhi was very good in the firman scene. There was a marvellous flash of smug certainty and subdued triumph just as he is looking down at the firman - Gotcha! it said unmistakably, and Jalal caught it as he looked up. Which is what made him tear up the firman, to give her a fright and wipe that smugness off her face. And it did so wipe it off.

Well, if Jodha is biding her time, so be it, but while she is doing it, it would not have hurt to tell Mahaam that this is her palace and would she please leave. No, Shalmali, it looked very silly, the way she listened to all that muck. Ruqaiya, even with all her skeletons in assorted closets, would, under even slightly similar circumstances, have thrown one of those heavy vases at Mahaam. All that Jodha had to throw was one sharp sentence Aap isi waqt.tashreef le ja sakti hain.

Thank you, my cool young friend! As you can see, I sneaked back earlier than I should have, par kya karoon, aap sab logon ki itni aadat jo pad gayi hai!

I am glad to have some additional, even if only partial support on the Great Begum Jodha vs Badiammi spat!

My eye is coming along, but late nights are completely out for now, so it will have to be late morning posts when I do post.

As for you, my dear, it is clear that you should post, often, and at length!! I am going to keep a word count of your responses, so you should look sharp!😉

Welcome back Shyamala aunty!! (late but still wanted to start with that)
Hope u r taking enough care of ur health. And thanks a ton for all the PMs.

It was nice to read so many opinions. I agree partially on ur take on jodha's reply to MA. Seems she does reserve her fiery nature exclusively for jalal. But she didnt just take whatever MA was throwing on her. The look on her face when MA was going on with her ramblings was like ' say what u want, its not going to affect me ' and ' sooner or later u ll have to eat ur words' . So it didnt matter she didnt stop her with stern words and throw her out.

I quite liked the episode. The farman scene was well enacted by both actors. And the sword fight scene was the highlight, even though quite out of place. Personally the sword fight in the movie is a favorite. But here the reactions of both jalal and jodha and the friction between them were completely different. In the movie, akbar was totally in control and actually having fun, whereas here jalal is amused but thrown off balance a couple of times. The last move by jodha came as a surprise. We ll have to see how their conversation continues on monday.

This is the longest reply i have posted so far. Thanks for inspiring me to write this much 😊

I am sorry I just typed that out, I didn't meant that really!! Because I knew you had an eye infection, just I saw the small one getting replied and.. ohh forget it. I DID NOT meant to write that
And I am not Cross with you.I can't ans specially with someone Dear like you. So no problems on that. I just have very short_Mild temper Attacks that to rarely, else I am not the one to be cross with someone
I know it must be tiring to type out such a brilliant post and then replying to each and every one.
One thing I too noticed that we are mostly same page on many things and I couldn't find out anything that I could argue, or else I love debating a lot
I hope you get well soon!!
I will not fret, I promise. [I never use to, It's just...]

Apurva my dear girl,

Thanks a lot for liking this post.

You must not be cross with me, just as Chahat was once for the same reason. As Rose has stated so sweetly in my defence, I am suffering from a bad eye infection and cannot do late night posts any more. I had mentioned this clearly in my closing thank you comments on the Monday episode. I did try and cover some of the comments yesterday during the day, and now as well, but one has other commitments during the day, and I have already spent too much time on this thread as it is. It is an addiction that is difficult to shake off!

So I do try, and I will make it a point to cover yours, but you must be a good girl and an understanding one. You and I are mostly on the same page on most things, so I do not have to argue with you at length, but I do read all your posts very carefully, rest assured of that!

Even after I have recovered fully, and if I restart doing daily posts, there is NO way I would be able to respond to each of the comments. That would mean 6 hours a day for Jodha Akbar!!

Take care, my dear, and don't fret!

Affectionatel,

Shyamala Aunty

Aunty-3, reading your post in a relatively free time after a looong gap. n as always it is so wonderful.

I don't need to add anything more, other than that I agree, even I was thinking that 'what is Jodha doing in Shehanshah's practice area, when did she came there from her harem?there was no connectivity.

But nevertheless, I still enjoyed that scene. n I loved the way you described n evaluated Jodha and Jalaal's individual feelings in that particular "6 inches" away scene.

plus...about Ruqaiya...well her character has been degraded to such a degree, that perhaps she does not even require any comment now!

n yes..I was laughing all the way, after reading your 'Joke of the Day'. 😆

Thank you for making the post. I hope you are feeling good :)
I do agree the duel between Jodha and Akbar was out of the blue and her look was too obvious a lift from the movie but I liked this version of the duel simply becasue this Jodha did a good job to show her pride in her ability , her determination to win against him and the acceptance that he beat her and then her comeback - Parindhi did very well. I like Jalal - Jodha chemistry
I still have to say the Mughal palaces and Rajput palaces are more like railway stations - people walk in and out all times , all hours when Jodha walked in during Diwan - e -Khas, when MA walked in to Jodha's room, Rahim coming into Jodha's room(this I can forgive- he is so cute!) - kekta has forgotten that people are to be announced
Ruq - that scene made me cringe - she has the rest of the begams lined up and throwing their gifts in their faces - what a sad face of mughal royality...Ruq has now degraded to being shallow and petty...
MA seems like a fustrated screechy cat - the MA in the movie maintained her pride , ego and control and looked what she was meant to be Jalal's mother in command ...here she comes across like Ruq competitor when she comes rushing to see jodha to threaten her with consequences after Moti bai was released.
I do wonder how many wives does Jalal have!?!!

Thank you so much, my dear.I am sorry to be so late with this, but I have this persistent eye problem and it is all I can manage to get the posts out during the day,as any late nights have been strictly banned for me.

I agree completely with you about both Mahaam and Ruqaiya in this episode.

But do see my latest, on episode No, 51, which I liked almost as much as the superb No,50. I am specially pleased that they seem to be pulling Ruqaiya at least some way towards her old avatar, that was one of the major plus points yesterday evening. Plus the Jalal-Jodha rapprochement, of course.

As for the wives, 3 formally: Ruqaiya, Salima and Jodha. The rest are all informal arrangements in varying degrees, all calling themselves his begums and latching on to him at first sight. No wonder the poor chap hardly enters the harem!
