Chapter Six, There You Are
Jodha's Pov
Screaming could be heard as I woke up.
"You can't do this!"
"I have to"
"But he's a Mughal!"
"I have heard of many praises of his kindness"
"Have you seen her?" There was a short pause. "No you don't, because you know it's your fault that she's like this and your too much of a coward to face what you've done"
"I did what was best!"
"Who are you? Are you even her father?"
"I am a king before I am a father, I have to do what is best for my kingdom"
"And look where that's gotten us" loud footsteps could be heard as the last word was uttered.
I tried to close my eyes to sleep again, but I couldn't. I had a feeling like something important was happening, I felt hopeful for the first time in years. Eventually I slipped into sleep, only to be awoken by my mother an hour later.
"Jodha" she said with a small smile that didn't reach her eyes. "Your marriage has been fixed"
Jala's Pov
"Do you think I did the right thing" I asked Rukaiyya as we sat on one of the many benches in the garden.
"I have a good feeling about your decision"she paused "but I think you should meet her before making any big decisions."
"Do they allow that there?" I asked confused.
"Sort of, you see the others reflection in water."
"Would I be able to talk to her?"
"Maybe if you asked"
"Soldiers" I said loudly to alert the soldiers standing on the sides of the garden.
"Yes my king" they said as they stood infront of me.
"Send a message to Amber that I wish to see the princess and talk to her"
"Yes my king" they said before marching away.
"what if this is a horrible decision?" I asked looking forward, i had a habit of thinking the worst. "What if this ruins her life and mine?"
"you'll have to hope it won't" she answered simply.
i nodded in reply
"Do you still love her?" She asked referring to Punandavati (Jodha)
"I never stopped," I said looking at the red roses. "But it's time I move on"
"If you're sure" she said before standing up and walking towards her chambers.
Rukaiyya's Pov
I smiled as I walked back to my chamber. I had heard many praises of Jodha's beauty and kindness, I had a feeling like she'd be perfect for him. No matter how much he hated to admit it he needed someone, he needed someone who would be there for him like Abdul is there for me.
a light kiss on my cheek broke my train of thoughts.
"There you are"
Jodha's Pov
A week had pasted since the news of my marriage being set had spread around the castle, everyone was acting odd. Mother wouldn't look me in the eye when she talked to me, everyone looked at me with a strange pity.
"i am such a horrible sister" Sukanya cried to me.
"no you aren't" i said try to comfort her.
"this is all my fault, i could have stopped this"
"stopped wh-"
"Jodha are you ready?" my mother cut me off.
"yes" i said as I stood up.
Mother walked beside me until we reached the chair i would sit at. I sat down and looked around the room, before settling my eyes on the water below.
Jala's Pov
this first thing i noticed when i walked into the castle was the look of pure disdain and hatred on everyone's faces. No matter how much they tried to conceal it with fake smiles, their eyes showed their true feelings.
"shahenshahji," one of Jodha's brothers choked out "come this way."
He guided me to a room full of people, my eyes roamed around the room till they settled to a single person in a green and gold, she stuck out. She drowned out all the hatred in the room without having to do anything.
Jodha's Pov
The sound of foot steps entered the room, shushing the chattering. Something felt different. My eyes looked up carefully through my dupatta.
