As a music critic its my opinion on the contestants.
I dont know what will happen to Abhijeet Sawant or Rahul Vaidya in future, whether they succeed as a playback singer or not, but one thing is for sure, they dont have any throwing problem. i know music and i can tell whos problem is what.
Abhijeet's one of the best things is his throw. even composers like anu malik, singers like sonu nigam n here shekhar will second me on that. i have been following him since indian idol season 1 (from the audition round) n i know what his calibre is n his development in music. even then he had been considered as the hero's voice after decades. (i can add here anu malik's opinion that after kishore kumar there r only two real hero's voice he has heard, no.1 is of sonu's n another one is of abhijeet sawant's.) after voice his throwing, expressions and feelings in songs that made him the indian idol as he looked like the most complete package n competent singer. his only limitation is he is a little uncomfortable in low notes. he needs to work that out soon.
as for Rahul, he is one of the most brilliant singers of these days. in JJWS i have seen him taking some unnecessary harqateins not going with the mood of the songs at all. he was a lot better in indian idol. this tendency of his makes most of his songs sound alike (semiclassical). he shud grow out of it. maybe his similarity to sonu's voice will cost him his success to some extent as well.
as for Vineet, he is a singer with potential but has a lot to learn and to me he still has a long way to go to b a good playback singer. he is yet to find his own style and needs to get rid of the pronunciation problems.
Ishmeet is very blessed bcuz he's not even a trained singer but he is taking things up quite well upto his own level. but ofcourse that is way behind than most of the singers. he needs to start learing music first to b a professional. he has potential to b a bright one if he improves. to b honest, now he's just an average singer. his throw can b good n bad both.
Harshit has a very powerful mainstream voice. i have to agree. his classical training (3 yrs) is good also. it looks much more than three years. but what bugs me about him is his noise. he always picks up high pitch songs (to his forte ofcourse) and it goes noisy almost always. i never saw him trying a low pitch song, u kno soft romantic numbers. and that's what he needs to prove that he can sing such low pitch songs. its very unfortunate to c a singer of his calibre copying other's style in singing (like kumar sanu specially).
Debojeet is also a blessed singer with superb voice but very limited classical training. his harqateins really show a huge lacking in those tho he never really attempted those much. but still the thing shows, shows. i m not suggesting that every singer shud b a classical guru, but a certain extent of classical training is necessary for the singers to take up variety of songs well.
Toshi disappoints me the most. he is very well classically trained (looks to me almost as much as rahul vaidya who has learned for 6 years till indian idol 1) but yet to sing in sur. its a misery that its a waste of training. he doesnt know where to start n where to stop. he gives me the strange feelings that he always does that extra stuffs (mostly unnecessary and ofcourse changing the original sur totally) to hide his lack of sur and to eyewash people wat a great singer he is. look i dont have anything against toshi, even i respect him as a classically trained one, but what he is doin now is totally harming himself the most. i m really annoyed with those voi judges who overrated him each chance they got n covered the mistakes he made. thats what caused him to perform this way today. he shud understand his real problems n work those out to remain in the music world.
Singers like Sonu, Shaan have took a quite long walk to make it what they r now. so there is no point to jump to a conclusion about their future as a playback singer now.
No offense to anyone. its only my view as a music critic.
P.S: Quoting them dont make me followin them blindly. its just that my musical knowledge matched them there.
