These two never had a moment of peace to themselves. And this probably is their last time spending time together alone, unobserved. Maybe this was his last chance to resolve the turmoil he is in right now...

I am sure he is struggling for a long time and trying to find the correct words to explain to Jhanak. Even though writers didn’t clearly portray him thinking about the marriage, but recent gestures, his care, him being more responsible towards her might & the monologue just added to what he said to her. The timing was off definitely because he took her dupatta off, gazing and trying to understand the sexual tension. But yes maybe today’s episode will give a better picture.
