Actor-anchor Sandhya Mridul is overwhelmed with the compliments her gyrations in 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa-2' (Sony) have fetched her. "Those who saw me dance are surprised.
It was a high for me as I danced to the legendary 'Mehbooba' number. That too in the presence of Urmila Matondkar, who performed the same song in 'Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag' besides of course Jeetuji (Jeetendra) and Shiamak ( Davar) in the show," she enthuses.
Didn't she learn dancing whilst doing films? "No! I have never learnt dancing. But it's something I have always enjoyed doing. My biggest phobia about participating in 'Jhalak' was that I am not used to dancing with high heels. And I have never danced to someone else's tunes (laughs)! Even in Farhan Akhtar's 'Honeymoon Travels' I danced with total freedom," confides Sandhya.
Wasn't it true that her choreographer Javed Sanadi had labeled her a 'frog' during the rehearsals? "Yes, that's right (giggles)! I was called a 'frog' on the first day, but a 'bird' on the second day.
He patiently worked hard to teach me to keep my body in control. Given a choice I would rather indulge in a Govinda freestyle number rather than move with precision.
But I am really grateful to Javed who made me realise, that out here I am Sandhya, the contestant," says the actor whose performance in 'Page 3' as the outspoken airhostess, had fetched her accolades.
Sandhya is simultaneously shooting for the hard-hitting movie 'Chowky' directed by Kitu Ghosh, which has now be taken over by producer Bunty Walia. "I play a bar dancer. My co-star is VJ Yudi."
Coming back to 'Jhalak' she says, "I am thrilled that I am getting to learn different forms of dance and getting paid for it," says Sandhya who has also shot for the movie 'The Great Indian Butterfly' where she plays a simple woman whose marriage is on the rocks.
