It only takes a couple of movies, a couple of contacts..getting into the biz world changes their lives..some people stick to their looks..kajol still has her unibrow..her sister had a complete look overhaul 🤢 but if you don't have the talent or the merits..and you just have the body..you might get a movie or too but you won't stay in the industry and you'll always stay within certain types of roles..ex: Mallika sherawat, the ugly whats her name in every music video..rakhi sawant. You don't have to access bollywood through femina miss india or land your first contract in the gym pumping iron.

No one said weight alone decides the quality of dance...One only said that for certain dance styles, when one dances wearing short clothes, being heafty doesnt look all that nice

and about skin tone, hehehehehehe,we all LOVE the dusky shveta, and think she is gorgeous looking....😛😃😛

Akshay Kumar,SHilpa Shetty and co. belonged to the 1990's...they entered films a decade ago, when this "looking thin" or "looking the best" wasnt given as much importance as its given today..KArishma Kapoor's make up was a disaster in her first couple of movies, but she doesnt belong to the current era....and Kajol too belonged to the 90's...before that we had sridevi, who wasnt skinny, but her times are different....People need to change themselves according to the times....90's are GONE,its 2006 now....

Mallika sherawat hasnt made it big yet,but nevertheless, she is where she is only because of her looks and body..Not everyone could reach even where mallika has reached....Mallika's body gave her the edge, and then the onus of sustaining the advantage her body gave her,is completely on her....

Looks give the initial edge, just for the person to be noticed...One might talk about konkona, but Konkona had a mother who launched her in Mr.and Mrs.iyer..How many girls have a mother/father/godfather in the industry??????.....WOuld konkona has been noticed had she not made her fantastic debut in mr.and mrs iyer, and then back it up with other goood performances....because,Had konkona just walked into the office of a producer, the likelihood that she might have been signed on for a movie is very less.....as she isnt the typical heroine material, and even she accepted that on koffee with karan, and said that she is happy and satiated dping the character author backed roles....👏👏

Looks and figure alone, doesnt help..One also needs act...But acting alone too doesnt help..One needs to have the looks too...One needs to be a complete package😃😛....As I said, can you name ONE top list heroine who is overweight.....I'm afraid NOT!

exactly buffie.

let our friends name one actress at the top in main stream high budget commercial cinema, who is even a bit chubby these days and i will just shut the hell up.

the last i remember was kajol and rani to an extent. .. and they have established actors with movies in their DNA source.. 😆 😆 Kajol's nani (shobhana samarth) played Seeta in a movie so long ago, almost when dynasours ruled the planet! same is the case with esha deol, who toned her body immediately.

Can I name an actor? Sanjay Dutt He's a bit overweight 😛 But lol don't hold that against him. He was amazing in lage raho munnabhai and I didn't even notice he was overweight.

Anyways I do think being thin is important is there role so requires and there are many such roles which require that. Like for example you can't be a model and be overweight.

Mona Singh is pretty, and yeah she's a bit overweight but I never thought that affected her performance in Jassi or anything else. Also you guys make it sound like being a little bit overweight means no entry to bollywood. I can imagine an obese person not entering bollywood, but seriously, mona singh isn't that bad, she is quite pretty and has a radiant smile. She hasn't entered bollywood not because of her looks but because rarely do people from television enter bollywood or become a success story, its an uncommon thing.

Anyways I think looks aren't important for the society, take singers for instance, someone like Pink, she's not even that pretty but she's popular and well-liked. If looks were important a show like Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin wouldn't even sell and yet it was sooooo popular. Delnaaz being much overweight was in a karan johar film. Mona Singh doesn't even look bad, she's a bit overweight but she looks normal and good. Would you say she's ugly?

Anyways I am a big fan of the book Harry Potter and I think JKR posted something about this whole looks issue of being thin or whatever and to quote from it:

"I whiled away part of the journey reading a magazine that featured several glossy photographs of a very young woman who is either seriously ill or suffering from an eating disorder (which is, of course, the same thing); anyway, there is no other explanation for the shape of her body. She can talk about eating absolutely loads, being terribly busy and having the world's fastest metabolism until her tongue drops off (hooray! Another couple of ounces gone!), but her concave stomach, protruding ribs and stick-like arms tell a different story. This girl needs help, but, the world being what it is, they're sticking her on magazine covers instead."

" It's about what girls want to be, what they're told they should be, and how they feel about who they are. I've got two daughters who will have to make their way in this skinny-obsessed world, and it worries me, because I don't want them to be empty-headed, self-obsessed, emaciated clones; I'd rather they were independent, interesting, idealistic, kind, opinionated, original, funny – a thousand things, before 'thin'. And frankly, I'd rather they didn't give a gust of stinking chihuahua flatulence whether the woman standing next to them has fleshier knees than they do."

"His bemusement at this everyday feature of female existence reminded me how strange and sick the 'fat' insult is. I mean, is 'fat' really the worst thing a human being can be? Is 'fat' worse than 'vindictive', 'jealous', 'shallow', 'vain', 'boring' or 'cruel'? Not to me; but then, you might retort, what do I know about the pressure to be skinny? I'm not in the business of being judged on my looks, what with being a writer and earning my living by using my brain...

I went to the British Book Awards that evening. After the award ceremony I bumped into a woman I hadn't seen for nearly three years. The first thing she said to me? 'You've lost a lot of weight since the last time I saw you!'

'Well,' I said, slightly nonplussed, 'the last time you saw me I'd just had a baby.'

What I felt like saying was, 'I've produced my third child and my sixth novel since I last saw you. Aren't either of those things more important, more interesting, than my size?' But no – my waist looked smaller! Forget the kid and the book: finally, something to celebrate!"

I think she said it all. Maybe looks matter and the society is a bit shallow, whatever. It doesn't matter much if a person is a bit overweight. Its not like Mona singh is NOT visually appealing. She looks quite nice, so is being overweight really a terrible thing, should she be not allowed to enter the industry only because she's a bit overweight? Personally this whole overweight issue is beyond me.

PS:- This response is not meant personally for anyone. Its just my opinion and it is a response to the topic of overweightness itself.

Edit: Ok I overreacted a bit so I'm sorry!! 😊

Oh lol my response wasn't personally meant for you. Just the whole issue of overweightness, it always gets on my nerves! As my parents and sister are weight-obsessed and I got a bit overweight and they kept calling me "fat" so much so that I didn't eat purposely to get thin and then I vomited, it was terrible. I'm thin now, but you can imagine how I feel about the whole 'fat issue'. 😛

"When was delnaaz paul the lead in a karan johar film. If Mona intends to play sidekicks, then her weight isnt a problem "

I'm sorry I overreacted. Oh you mean the lead shouldn't be fat. Sorry I thought you meant all actors should be thin!!! Anyways you are right it wouldn't look good for a very overweight person to play against hrithik roshan or something. But I don't see why this is a problem for Mona. She is only a bit overweight and its not like it makes her looks unappealing, she's quite beautiful even though she is not stick thin.

,I only spoke about the "lead actresses",not sidekicks... 😃

LEAD actresses need to be thin, that WAS ALLLLLLLLLLLLL WHAT I WAS TRYING TO SAY........I never said every human should be skinny,I never said every actor .irrespective of the role they play should be skinny...ONLY LEAD ACTORS NEED TO BE GOOD LOOKING 😃

and yes,Mona is only overweight, but in today's day, lead actresses cant afford to be overweight ..they need to be thin...

Yes yes I admit that. I'm sorry I overreacted as I said weight is a personal issue for me and sometimes my emotions get the better of me. I hope you'll forgive me and If I could take back my words, I would 😊.

Oh wait I can do that. By the EDIT button. 😳

Ok yeah thats the point I agree with you lead actors should be good-looking or decent-looking atleast.
So I'm saying mona is good-looking, personally I don't think her being overweight deters from her being good-looking. I mean what if a person looks good-looking while being overweight? Isn't that possible? I think Ash had to gain some pounds for the movie bride and prejudice and she had to lose some pounds for Dhoom 2. Personally I feel she looked the prettiest in bride and prejudice and looks a little too skinny in Dhoom.

Rani Mukherjee and Kajol are still main stream actresses that are very much in the lime light. they are far from the toned, tight skin look. and they are number one where everyone is concerned.Mallika is only trapped with certain roles..she doesnt mind being a sex symbol, she knows this is what sells, and she's gladly doing it. even her body now is not good enough, according to Rahul Bose her co-star in pkse he said her body was flabby and she needed to work out! but honestly to me mallika is invisible next to Rani,Preity, and Kajol..she would never be on the same calibre. what about Esha Koppikar..thats pretty thin 😆 , or Ayesha Takia..wholly she's definetly thin 😆 however why do they have the higher up on actresses like mallika, why do they get signed up in mainstream films with roles of character and not just hip shaking..and skimpy clothes?..if weight alone decided the fate of bollywood a lot of stars would be out of work.

What attracted me the most about your culture, the indian culture, ever since I was four..that i was so overwhelmed by it was its uniqueness, its independence, its colorfullness..i took it upon myself to study it, the language, the dance..I saw the progression. And I was amazed by how ascethic it is. truly inspirational and devotional, unfortunately when you see the people of the country aspiring to mimick western standards..the standards that no one envies..its sad..because you have standards that a lot of cultures would envy, The Indian woman is a true definition of a woman, and was portrayed so beautifully in Indian cinema historically and to date. when you see the saris stripped and the bikinis in it might be a sign of getting into today's generation and their way of thinking and lifestyle because you can't stay stuck in the past forever. But marginalizing those with real talent because they can't get into a bikini would be sad..Rani in tauba tumhare mein ishare in chalte chalte..didn't look svelte, yet she looked sexy. I know a 100 people who think Rani Oozes fire..while Aishwarya is ice thanda. I'd love to see rani do all kind of roles get into a cat suit and jump off buildings..but just like there was zeenat aman, Parveen Babi and the likes..there were also, Hema Malini, Jaya Badhuri etc..
You can't take away their credit. Indian cinema is diversified..and diversity makes it great.
