'Jhalak Dikhla Ja' exploded with Akashh Deep Saigal's verbal volleys when he was ousted from the popular dance show on Sony.
The actor who was receiving flak from the judges, Farah Khan, Shilpa Shetty and Sanjay Leela Bhansali right from the beginning felt that it wasn't an angry outburst but an emotional talk. "Whatever was happening on the show wasn't right and somebody had to tell them that. Everyone felt it and I was asked the question again and again by the journalists and my fans. You can't fool the audience. Farah wanted me out of the show and it was quite evident. I am not here to criticize anyone and I am saying this with due respect to all my fellow contestants, but when Sanjeev Kapoor went totally off beat he was still given 18 while I was given much lower marks. C'mon I am not some child in a nursery with a lollipop in my mouth. I understand all these things and so does the 'janta'", said a miffed Akashh Deep.
The hunky actor lashed out at the judges on National TV when they said that according to them Akashh Deep should be out. The actor who performed Samba on the popular Bollywood track, 'Rang De Basanti' looked visibly moved, "Well, when they said that I thought they had guts, because to say something like that on your face needs courage. But then I also have a lot of 'himmat'. I have earned my bread and the name that I have in my field on my own. I am not some roadside character; I am a celebrity in my own right. I lead a respectful life. I am answerable to my fans. If I had kept quite after facing all this, what respect would they have left for me?" he clarifies.
Akashh Deep felt that the judges weren't up to the mark. According to him Farah has mastery over Bollywood dancing only and for the Latin-American dancing required for the show she took tips from Sandeep Soparrkar who is the technical dance advisor for the show. "The judges used to look across into the audience where Sandeep used to sit during the shooting and there was sign language exchanged between the judges and the expert. All I wanted to tell the judges was that - be fair. How will I respect you if you aren't fair?" says the guy sounding terribly hurt. "They found my act in the fourth gala lacking and called it Bhangra and acrobatics. With due respect to Mahesh Majrekar I wanted to ask them that what about his act with the mango and his front slide. They disrespected the 'tilak' and called it a gimmick. Don't they know that it's a sign of respect? They are all old enough to understand it. Shilpa said she got confused between Samba and Salsa, she has no business getting confused. She is a judge. She always took a cue from Farah as whenever Farah spoke first I got low marks. See, I was never there for marks or dance-bar giri (the way people give money to dancers in a dance bar). I just wanted respect," he continued.
So did he feel that he was singled out by Farah as she had a bone to pick with him about their past relationship? "I have no idea why she did it. It seems like our past relationship was the reason." Some of the press reports carried an accusation by his choreographer Bindi Khare about being a bad loser. He laughs it off, "I had called up Bindi and she denied saying all that." Bindi had thanked him after his long speech last night.
All three judges were absolutely silent during Akashh's monologue. Some people feel that this industry is too well knit and the actor has burnt his bridges with a lot of people. "I was never in this league of people who use their contacts or who get work like this. When I was dating Farah, I wasn't doing it then, why should I bother now," says the cool as a cucumber hunk. When asked who does he think will win and why, he gets analytical, "Again no offence to any of my fellow contestants, but Mahesh Manjrekar will definitely be in the last round. This is what I feel. He has that charisma and his entertainment quotient is quite high. Even at this age he performs so well. Even Mona and Tobby will go till the last round. Jadeja I don't think should have come even this far and Shweta may be a good dancer but you need much more to survive in a show like this."
Akashh Deep may have gone out of the show but he feels that he achieved so much through last night's happenings as he got calls and messages from hundreds of his well-wishers appreciating his act.
