'I want to play 'a woman

... says Aman Verma, who's looking to take up more challenging roles

NICOLE DASTUR

Aman Verma has played the negative character more often than not. And his latest serial Viraasat on Star Plus sees him portray a dark character again. But the dimpled actor says he does not feel stagnated as an actor. "I take it as a compliment that I can play negative roles so convincingly, despite my face and personality. Besides, my character in Viraasat isn't all that dark. I play a man who will go to any extent to protect his family. It's a grey character," says Aman.
But wouldn't he like to go beyond the quintessential good versus bad roles? "Which actor wouldn't want to experiment? I'm always ready to taste new blood. I'm a little sick of playing sophisticated roles. I'd like to be a gaonwallah. Or better still, I want to play a woman. That would be challenging and exciting," says Aman.
Speak of the rumours about ego clashes among the actors of Viraasat and Aman replies, "We're all actors, and we all have our creative inputs. So there's bound to be some amount of disagreement." But does he feel over-competitive, taking into consideration that some of television's topmost stars are part of the same serial? "Thoda bahut competition toh hona chahiye. That's good. But we all try and give in our best."
And for those not in the know, Aman was also the first choice for the dance show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, before Aakashdeep Saigal stepped in his shoes. "I even attended one or two rehearsals, but I had date problems. So I had to opt out."
