Am I the only one who is sick and tired of the this dance form? I know it is a hard thing to do but seriously there are so many more dance forms out there...
running around, throwing each other etc etc....🤢 sometimes i feel its more of a gymnastics than a dance(no offence).

exactly! i guess all the choreos just dont know any other dance forms. most of the indian dances that are being performed in the group dances are poorly choreographed

..if you ever watch SYTYCD they showcase so many forms of dances including bollywood ,latin, afro
and seriously the judges have very low expectations as they give away 10 in a blink of an eye! and and esp the audience- they say ''once more'' on every single performance👎🏼

May be according to the dancers, contemporary is the only "HOT " and "happening" form
i agree, i am tired of watching cintemporary and freestyle in every second performance. i have heard people say you can express a theme very well in contemporary, but if you guys watch did, in did little masters, ruturaj did a wonderful lyrical hiphop, without beats with kabhie kabhie and i found it very very expressive, so if u want, u can express anything in all dance forms

as for as Indian classical goes, although some of the choreographers r trained in classical, i guess its very difficult to teach untrained dancers indian classical moves, thats whay my frnds tell me, when we do classical pieces,
but there can be semi classical mixed with contemporary .

besides i guess its the audience and in general Indian people who do not want to watch Indian classical and hence no pressure is attached to it, apart from one or two forms, i guess people do not even know how many classical dance forms r there.
i would love to see manipuri some time in the shows, its beautiful but alas!!!😭

Yes, there are other dance forms out there that should be tried, but Contemporary Dance is the most expressive dance form. It's not just hard to perform the moves, each bend and stretch that has to be fluent and intense - it's also extremely difficult to express the emotions/thoughts through those moves. It's far from gymnastics. It's a very powerful and intense way to express a story or emotion.

In Tango, there's one emotion - struggle.
In Rumba, there's one emotion - love/passion.
In Paso Doble, there's one emotion - aggressiveness.
And so on.
CD is a mix of so many emotions and thoughts, it's a turmoil of emotions that the dancers must express all at once through each one of their moves.

yes, we know contemporary is the most expressive, i love it too, but, its kind of boring to watch it day in and day out u know
as far as expressing goes, as i said in my previous post, i have watchd a 10 yr boy do a wonderful dance ,, expressing a poetry in lyrical hip hop, so its not like contemporary is the only form where u can express.
also contemporary can be of different forms, or so people have told me, here they only focus on 1 type, there can be classical contemporary, where u can mix indian classical. the dance shows hardly even take care to showcase the indian classicals. but i kind of understand it, indian classical is very very difficult for untrained dancers to pick it up, like say classical ballet, which is extremely difficult for some one to pick up randomely.
still, the foolish mind always wishes more than it gets 😃

contemporary is not always gonna be the same.
theres pedestrian contemporary and there full out contemporary.

pedestrian contemporary has a lot of human-like movements which is very easy for a non-dancer or non-contemporary dancer to do. it also less pirouettes and leaps.

actual contemporary [sorry cannot place the name right now] has a lot of complex movements and theres a lot of leap and pirouettes and moves that require a lot of flexibility.
its not hard to show emotion in both types of dances. as other people have said contemporary is not showing just one emotion, its a mix of emotions and thoughts. many people do portray as contemporary being sad or romantic but you can show other emotions through contemporary.

as for too much contemporary, i dont mind it all. contemporary is my favorite dance form to watch and actually do. i always enjoy contemporary dances that are done well =)
