Love thy neighbour?

Aarti Chhabria's neighbour has been harassing her just because she's in films... The industry reacts

Aarti Chhabria's neighbour, Veena Sippy put up photographs of the actress and a placard calling her obscene names.

When the police came and removed them, Veena replaced it with another placard saying that the actress was very vulgar and semi-nude.

Aarti has been a resident of the building for the past 12 years and has had no complaints from other neighbours. Industrywallas react to the harassment of one of their colleagues. Read on...

Amrita Arora: "I read about it. I think it's outrageous. She's a lovely, hardworking girl and doesn't need to be subjected to such rubbish from some dumb jealous neighbour. I've never been harassed by my neighbours. But being a celebrity one does become an easy target."

Kangana Ranaut: Aarti shouldn't fight back. Remember what Gandhi said? Love them even if they hate you. And if the opponent turns out to be too dirty, then ignore such creeps.
There are some people who harass you for attention. And the more you ignore them, the more persistent they get. But ignore them, and they'll get tired and move on to some other victim.
Priyanka Chopra: By God's grace I've never been harassed the way Aarti has. I think it's terribly wrong for her neighbour to behave in this way. By making such a public display of her animosity the neighbour is making her intentions quite clear.

It's decent of Arti to restrain from getting back at her neighbour. For the neighbour to launch such an indecent attack on her is ghastly. I hope she gets through this. All my support is with her and with other girls in the industry who gets targeted for no reason.
Mona Singh: "Personally I've never encountered such a situation. Those around me have always been supportive and warm, though never over-friendly. Where Aarti is concerned, this seems to be case of malicious intention and the neighbour wants to attract attention to herself. They're unfortunately some people who can't stand other people' success.
Raveena Tandon: "Celebrity harassment is something I've faced only once, and that too in the airport when I came back from London once at the peak of my career. Two customs officials grilled me for two hours when all I had brought back from London was cheese and soup.

A few days later a female friend of mine who works in the airport overheard two guys talking about how they detained Raveena Tandon for two hours just to chat up with her. People in the limelight do get targeted for harassment. Unlike Aarti, I've never had intrusive, bullying neighbours. I've been very lucky to have good neighbours. And I believe I've been a good neighbour to them."
Minissha Lamba: The maximum harassment I've experienced is my car being scratched by some boys in my neighbourhood.

We all go through harassment in one way or another. Most people don't have adequate means of fighting it or a strong support system to withstand the attack.

Dia Mirza: What has happened to Aarti is absurd! Any female, wherever she's living, and whatever her lifestyle, it is nobody's business to point a finger at her profession. Nobody has the right to defame or antagonise any other person unless he/she is creating a nuisance in your household. And who is this lady? How can she go around pointing fingers at others? It's a very nasty thing to do. Thankfully, I have never faced such a situation before. My neighbours are the best.
Koena Mitra: Why just an actress, it's offensive to call any girl such names and make presumptions just because of her profession. Aarti lives with her family and it must be very annoying for them to listen to all this. It's unfortunate but society is harsh on actresses.

I remember when my Bandra home got burnt and I was looking around for a flat in Juhu people would ask me hundreds of questions, but not give me a house. They feel single, independent girls from film industry have wild nights and men coming into their homes every day.
